NETTLETON – James Arther “Duke” Townsend, 45, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at the Aberdeen Care Center. He was born May 3, 1965, to U.S. Townsend and Ruth Ella Griffin Townsend. He was a member of Union Grove Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Greater Prospect M.B. Church with the Rev. Leon Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sisters, Ella Jean Lowe of Nettleton, Irene Finnie (Richard) of Tupelo and Sandra Langston (Cedric) of Nettleton; four brothers, George Townsend of Nettleton, Eddie C. Townsend (Mae Ella) of Nettleton, James Russell Townsend (Willie Mae) of Nettleton and Henry Townsend (Barbara) of Pontotoc.
PONTOTOC – Kenny Hayes, 50, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Trinity Mission in Holly Springs. He worked at Brookwood Furniture for 19 years.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sand Springs Cemetery. Bro. Joe Morse will officiate.
Survivors include one son, Mikey Hayes; a sister, Patti Dixon; and a brother, Tommy Hayes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelton and Hortense Hayes; a sister, Shelley Huey; and a brother, Sam Hayes.
HOUSTON – Margie Ree Huffman McCullough, 76, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. She was born April 6, 1934, in Houston to Ralph Elzo Huffman and Harriet Elizabeth Sisk Huffman. She was a housewife and a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Houston.
Survivors include her sisters, Dorothy King of Houston and Mary Alice Smith of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Eli McCullough; her sisters, Annie Eglinter Huffman Brooks, Mattie Elizabeth Huffman Criddle; and Mavlene Huffman Brooks; and her brothers, Walter Elzo Huffman and James Lewis Huffman.
Pallbearers are John Rogers Criddle, Taylor Criddle, Brooks Criddle, Thomas Clark, Gayle Bevells and Alex Clark.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.

NEW ALBANY – Marjorie Matkin, 87, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in Mannford, Okla. A lifelong resident of Union County, she was born March 4, 1923, to Dwight Elmo Matkin Sr. and Velma Foreman Matkin. She was a retired furniture worker at Futorian, Stratford and Mohasco furniture companies. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church at Etta.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with Bro. Ronnie Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.
Survivors include one son, Tony Matkin of Sand Springs, Okla.; one sister, Reba Bennett of Etta.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dwight Elmo Matkin Jr.; and one sister, Agnes Register.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time today.
HOLLAND, Mich. – Jean Andry, 88, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in Holland, Mich., where she had lived the last several years. A lifelong homemaker, she lived much of her in the greater Chicago area.
Services and burial were in Oak Lawn, Ill. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, assisted the family locally.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Andry and wife, Bunny, of Plantersville and Russell Andry of Chicago; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

SMITHVILLE – Nellie Ruth Nichols Ausborn Arnold, 74, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Houma, La.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Ecru with Rev. Terry Ethridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery in the Endville community.
Survivors include her three sons, Roger Ausborn, Kenneth Ausborn and Michal Ausborn; one daughter, Shelia Camp, all of Amory; her sister, Ruby Bonnecarrere of Houma, La.; two brothers, Morris “Red” Nichols of Mobile, Ala., and Bill Nichols of Bristol, Wis.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and her friend, confidant and roommate for the past 15 years, Jessie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jennie Bowen Nichols; two brothers, Glen and Robert “Buddy” Nichols; a sister: Cleo “Liz” Bullock; and a grandson, Jason Camp.
Pallbearers will be Junior Smith, Sid Bonnecarrere, Richard Nichols, Tony Cagle, James Nichols and Jimmy Williams.

FULTON – Brenda Joyce Roper, 53, died Friday, May 14, 2010. She was born Jan. 24, 1957, in Marks to Lowel Raymond and Jewell Watson Roper. She was a factory worker before becoming disabled. A devout Christian, she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and an avid reader.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Tutor and Bro. Ronnie Martin officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Samarra Putt (Marcus) and Kennady Roper, both of Fulton; four brothers, Johnny Alvis Roper of Festus, Mo., Dennis Earl Roper and Jimmy Dale Roper (Songa), both of Fulton, and Raymond Lowell “Buddy” Roper (Nancy) of Batesville; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; three brothers, Jonathan, James and John; and aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Ahlum, Marcus Alan Putt, Dustin Wayne Tyler, Keith Glissen, Shawn Nicholas Glissen and Rodney Pruitt.

VENICE, Calif. – Helon Erlene Mathis Brown, 97, formerly of Houlka, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at her home in California. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Houston Funeral Home.
GUNTOWN – Elsie Mozelle Bruner Mattix, 98, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born in Center, Texas, on Dec. 31, 1911, to James and Almittie Spivey Bruner. She lived most of her life in the Lake Charles, La., area expect for several years in Snellville, Ga., and the last six months in Guntown. She was a master homemaker, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, and a warm, gentle soul. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Charles, she was active there in WMU, the seniors group and she was a Sunday school teacher of 3-year-olds for decades. She was an excellent cook and loved the piano.
Services and burial will be under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include three children, Rodney Mattix (Joyce) of Lake Charles, Carolyn Perkins (Joe) of Austin, Texas, and Virginia Hill (Charley) of Sour Lake, Texas; six grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her caregiver in Guntown, Dorothy Mount.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Dale Mattix, in l977 and four siblings.

BYHALIA – Marshall Lawson, 50, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
