Susie Ann Owens
TUPELO – Susie Ann Owens, 64, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Nov. 10, 1948, in Tupelo to Doris Juanita Owens and George (Mary) Warren. She was a 1966 honor graduate of George Washington Carver High School and a 1970 honor graduate of Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs. She later earned her master’s degree from the University of Mississippi. She started teaching in the fall of 1970 and taught for 33 years. She taught two years at Rosedale High School. In 1973 she returned to Tupelo and taught at Carver and Tupelo High. She retired from the Tupelo School District in May 2004. She was an active member of Lane Chapel CME Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, director of Christian Education, member of the choir, Missionary president (local and regional), a steward and a trustee. She served as an officer on the national Women’s Missionary Council Executive Board. She was a member of the General Convention Board of Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a member of Kissia Clifton Temple 671; Tupelo chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; NAACP; and Tupelo, Mississippi and National Education Associations.
She is survived by her siblings, Dorothy Mae Leake of Chicago, Michael (Corennie) Partlow of Killeen, Texas, Annie Catherine Hellens of Racine, Wis., Henry (Melloney) Owens of Carpentersville, Ill., Louise (Emmit) Foster of Tupelo, Robert (Mabel) Warren of Baldwyn, George (Jacque) Warren of San Antonio, Texas; godson, Ramon (Carmen) Gary of Tupelo; aunts, Susie Matt, Cora L. Owens, Mae E. Ellis, Georgia Ann Owens; cousins, Earnestine Jamison, Mary Jo (Samuel) Bell Jr., Angela Montgomery, Reginald Sneed, Jevetia Ellis, Amos Owens, Eric L. Ellis, Rommel F. Ellis, Andre Nunn; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Katie Gary and William Smith Jr.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Juanita Owens; grandparents, Vevia B. and Murray Owens Sr.; great-grandmother, Ida Mae Moody; brothers, Willie Albert Jr., Richard Warren; aunts, Rosie Head, Evelyn Abbott, Justine Jones; uncles, Murray Owens Jr., Robert Owens; cousins, Grady Owens Sr., Murray Owens III.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Lane Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Penson officiating and the Rev. Dr. Charles Edward Holbrook as eulogist.Burial will follow in Porter’s Memorial Park. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
The body will lie in repose from 11 a.m. to service time today at the church.

Opal Houston
BALDWYN – Opal Amelia Houston, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Itawamba County on Feb. 5, 1924, to Octo and Cavie Austin Houston. She received an A.A. degree from Freed-Hardeman College in 1943. She had been a legal secretary for law firms in Jackson, Ft. Worth, Dallas and Atlanta. She retired and moved to Baldwyn in 1995. She was a devout Christian, a prayer warrior and a member of the First Baptist Church in Baldwyn. She enjoyed embroidery, making her own greeting cards and serving as a prayer warrior.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Stanley Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Nichols of Prescott, Ariz., and Virginia Buchanan of Hickman, Neb.; seven nieces, Regina Shumaker (Lynn), Karen Mansky (Bob), Greta Bellinger, Rosemary Davis, Michelle Niederhaus, Leslie Bitenieks and Dianne Cates; and two nephews, Maury Davis (Jayne) and Craig Buchanan (Ronda).
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dixie Davis and Orpha Cates; and a nephew, Mike Cates.
The men of her church will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Home.

Willard McCoy
BURNSVILLE – Willard C. McCoy, 79, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jewel Henderson
SHEFFIELD, Ala. – Jewel Opal Belk Henderson, 87, died Sunday, May 12, 2013. A native of Hamilton, Ala., she was a member of Heritage Baptist Fellowship Church. She was retired from the Bolivar County School System with 25 years of teaching service. She was a member of the Gospel Heralds Choir of Tupelo, DAR of Cleveland, Cleveland Garden Club and the Women’s Club of Cleveland. She held a bachelor of science degree in education, a master of education degree and an education specialist degree.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia, Ala. Services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Curtis Lewey officiating. An additional visitation and service will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Pontotoc from 3 to 4 p.m. today. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Pontotoc.
She is survived by her husband, Odis W. Henderson of Sheffield, Ala.; daughter, Zina Kaye King of Milton, Fla.; foster daughters, Deborah Bise and Janis Proctor; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Cletus and Zina Francis Gann Belk; brother, Dayton Belk; and sisters, Emma Lee Greenhill, Beatrice Easterling, Geneva Green and Jessma Hanhuth.
Pallbearers are Ray Shirley, Tinker Evans, Kenneth Brooks, James White, Larry Smart and Allen Easterling. Honorary pallbearer is Matthew Phillips.

BOONEVILLE – Margie Bernice Morgan, 77, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.

Gregory Towery
RIPLEY – Gregory L. Towery, 45, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at his home in Ripley. He was an employee of Master Bilt in New Albany. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God church in Ripley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Alan Towery of Oakland, Tenn.; his fiancée, Peggy Williams of Ripley; his grandmother, Maxine Ratliff of Unity; his stepfather, J.C. Gillentine of Richmond; stepbrothers, Chris Gillentine and David Gillentine, both of Richmond; and aunts and uncles, Debra Blaylock (Terry) of Mantachie, Mike Ratliff (Hilda) of Mooreville, Phil Ratliff (Karen) of Unity, Inez Ryan of Saltillo, Louise Swindle of Saltillo and Carol Reed of Mooreville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Towery and Frances Dale Ratliff Gillentine; and his grandparents, James Ratliff, and Mr. and Mrs. Aven Towery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Miller, Jonathan Boler, Rusty Taylor, Dennis Holmes, Heath Williams and Bryan Cissom.

Roy Meek
BALDWYN – Roy C. Meek, 82, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He served in the United States military for 22 years, attaining the rank 1st sergeant. He was stationed at Sidi Slimane in the Moroccan desert. He was a senior parachutist with the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the Republic of Vietnam as a military adviser and received the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He was employed by Diebold Inc. in Memphis for 15 years, working with Bill McBride and Dave Barron. He was a member of Ingram Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Jason Webb and his grandsons, Brandon Hall and Jonathan Hall, officiating. Burial will be in Jericho Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 48 1/2 years, Gracie Bullock Meek of Baldwyn; one sister, Frances Hill (Bob) of Memphis; two grandchildren, Brandon Hall (Sunny) of Knoxville and Jonathan Hall (Kristi) of Saltillo; four great-grandchildren, Braylen Hall, Kyan Hall, Kynsie Hall and Aria Hall; and his special niece and caregiver, Ruth Cagle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Callie Bell Meek; daughter, Gladys Marie Hall; two sisters, Dorothy Meek and Mable Morgan; brothers, Fred Meek, Tom Meek, Escue Meek, Melvin Meek and Dennis Meek.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Hall, Brandon Hall, Loren Backes, Buddy Goodson, Bill McBride, Dale Blythe. Richard Bullock and Steve Bullock.

Mary Jane Lyons
WOODLAND – Mary Jane Lyons, 56, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
Services will be at noon Thursday at St. Paul Beasley CME Church. Burial will be in Lower Prairie Creek M.B. Church Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Harriet Owens
FULTON – Harriet Helen Schroder Owens, 73, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born July 25, 1939, in Memphis to Harry S and Lillian Hamberlin Schroder. She was a 1957 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School. She worked beside her husband as manager of McDonald’s in Tupelo from 1972-1982. Upon her death, she was a bus monitor at Fulton Headstart. She loved life, spending time with her grandchildren, and running with the Red Hatters. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home of Fulton with Bro. Bill Adams, Bro. Loyd Minor and Bro. Bobby Jarrell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by four daughters, Teresa Owens of St. Louis, Mo., Cindy (Joe) Milam, Deanna (Richard) Houston and Missy (Marty) Johnson, all of Fulton; five grandsons, Jason (Brittany) Milam, Chris (Nikki) Milam, Russ Houston, Klay Houston and Kole Houston, all of Fulton; three granddaughters, Megan Johnson, Lauren Johnson and Casey (Scotty) Nichols, all of Fulton; three great-granddaughters, Mallie Beth Milam, Jaelynn Milam and Brooklyn Swindle, all of Fulton; two great-grandsons, Ian Nichols and Ryder Houston, both of Fulton; one sister, Lillian Schroder (Lyndon) Boren of Iuka; and a special niece, Scarlett McFerrin Beene.
she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas “Eddie” Edward Owens; her parents; and a sister, Eloise Back.
Pallbearers will be Jason Milam, Chris Milam, Russ Houston, Klay Houston and Kole Houston.

Ruby Stephens
BOONEVILLE – Ruby Carolyn Stephens, 70, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a sudden illness. She was a member of Zion Rest Church of Christ. She was an employee of Blue Bell Manufacturing for 28 years. She retired from Northeast Community College. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and church family. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning Bible class.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Zion Rest Church of Christ with Bro. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Short (Hester McCarley) and Jeanne Zarmora (Martin), both of Booneville; her mother, Sybil Boren of Booneville; two sisters, Betty Foster of Booneville and Janie Pettigo (Vert) of Guntown; two brothers, Ronnie Boren (Janet) of Booneville and Tommy Kesler (Cindy) of Baldwyn; four grandchildren, Jaried Aldridge, Jacob and Jayli McVey, and Jaslyn Zamora; and a friend, Glen Honeycutt of New Site.
She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Kesler; her stepfather, Vardaman Boren; and a daughter, Vicky Aldridge.
Pallbearers will be James Stenett, Jackie Scott, Mike Beasley, Ronny Kesler, Gerald, Eddie, Ken Gray and Jeff McVey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Marietta Class of 1960.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today at Zion Rest Church of Christ.

Kenneth Antonitis
TUPELO – Kenneth Antonitis, 89, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Leeper House at The Green Houses at Traceway.
Mass will be recited at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, at St. James Catholic Church. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Vickey Strickland
MOOREVILLE – Vickey “Baby Doll” Strickland, 52, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born July 21, 1960, to Brenda and Sonny Dillard in Oxford. She was a wonderful mother and a loving person with a wild spirit. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, and loved music and movies. She will be deeply missed.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Pastor Terry Ethridge will participate. Burial will follow in the Ingomar Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Brenda Dillard; daughters, Glenda Sledge and Cassie Dillard; companion, James Connors; grandchildren, Delilah Till, Sebastian Tackett, Laykn Tackett, Tayla Huffman and Hayden Huffman; and siblings, Donna Dillard, Danny Dillard, Angel Britt, Michael Britt, Daniel Britt and Richard Britt.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sonny Dillard.
Pallbearers will be Michael Britt, Daniel Britt, Steven Huffman, Michael Robinson and Artemus Shumpert.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today.

Armoee Mitchell
ABERDEEN – Armoee Mitchell died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home in Aberdeen.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Williams Memorial Funeral Home in Okolona. A full service and burial will be held later in Kansas City, Mo.
