AMORY – Ollon Lee Standifer died Friday, May 11, 2012. He was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Itawamba County to Ishibo and Verlie Stegall Standifer. He was married to Helen Parker Standifer.They had eight children. He later united with Shirley Ann Whitfield. They had four children.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ in Amory with the Rev. L.T. Mabry officiating. Burial will be at New Chapel Cemetery in Fulton. Jackson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his companion, Shirley Ann Whitfield of Amory; his children, Jimmy (Marcell) Standifer of Detroit, Mich., Johnny Standifer of Amory, Edward (Shirley) Standifer of Birmingham, Patricia Rogers of Amory, Carolyn (William) Stevenson of Amory, Allen (Cathey) Standifer of Memphis, Cynthia Whitfield (Frank) Cyrus of Brentwood, Tenn., Anthony Standifer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ava Whitfield of Amory, Stephanie Whitfield of Amory and Ollon (Anoch) Whitfield of Altamonte Spring, Fla.; a special daughter, Teresa Whitfield (James) Hoggard of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Nollon McKinney of Fulton, Hannah Jenkins of Amory and Dora (Byrdit) Morris of Gary, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Melissa Standifer of Fulton; 29 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two special friends, Clovis Poole and Gaython McKenzie Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Parker Standifer; a son, Ollon Lee Standifer Jr.; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. and a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Amory. The body will be placed in Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ at 10 a.m. Saturday.
WEST POINT – Helen Ruth Davidson, 85, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Third Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services in West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
CORINTH – Robert E. Garrett, 62, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Winifred Charline Hendrix Oglesby, 88, died Sunday, May 13, 2012. She was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Tupelo to Crum L. Hendrix and Jimmie Sparks Hendrix. She lived in Tupelo until she graduated from East Tupelo High School in 1942. She was a retired child care provider. She became a member of Highland Valley United Methodist Church in 1954 and served the church in many and various ways. She was a member of the Highlander Sunday School Class and Circle 1 of the United Methodist Women.
A gathering in remembrance of Oglesby will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey amp& Roth Funeral Home in Little Rock, Ark., with the Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Memorial Park of Alexander, Ark.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and R.G. “Rick” Jennings Jr. of Little Rock; her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel W. Oglesby and Callan Nagle of Alexandria, Va.; her granddaughter and husband, Karen and Tony Shepherd, and her great-granddaughter, Zoe Rebecca Shepherd of Little Rock; one brother, Jay Hendrix of Pontotoc; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Winston F. Oglesby, who died in 2002; her two sisters, Christine Castner and Linda Roye; and one brother, Bill Hendrix.

ECRU – Helen Edith Moody died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Darlington Oaks Community Hospice in Verona. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she called her “precious angels” and who called her “Mamaw.” She enjoyed gardening and feeding her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. William Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Ecru Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Moody; daughter-in-law, Breezy Moody; grandchildren, Rodney Moody (Gretchin), Stephanie Coomer (Scott) and Ryan Moody; great-grandchildren, Taylor Moody, Matthew Moody, Anna Grace Coomer, Will Presley Coomer and Zach Coomer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Moody; her parents, Richard and Lonie Raines; and a sister, Lorene Burk.

RIPLEY – Carolyn C. Halbach, 71, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at her residence in Ripley. She was born Nov. 13, 1940, to Claude “Jake” and Mary Carr Klineline. She was a mortgage processor for Regions Bank in Memphis. She loved to crochet afghans for friends and family.
There will be a private family memorial service. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Crawford (Ken) of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Halbach; and her parents.

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. – Hollis Milton Kitchen, 93, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012. A native of Mississippi, he was a retired electrician with TVA. He was a member of Nitrate City Baptist Church and served as a bi-vocational minister at numerous churches in Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia with T.A. Duke and Jim Warren officiating. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Priceville Memorial Gardens in Tupelo.
Survivors include his grandchildren, Jo Ann Bevis (Farron), Chuck Kitchen (Mindy), Chet Kitchen (Christy) and Johanna Paley; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Kitchen; a son, Charles Kitchen; and a daughter, Molly Dale Kitchen.

MANTACHIE – Jason Scott Butler died Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home. Known affectionately by friends and family as “Scotty,” he was born on Nov. 15, 1967, in Tupelo to Dennis and Sybil Louise Butler. He was a member of Fawn Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by two sisters, Wanda Byars of Tupelo and Patricia Branning of Pontotoc; one brother, Dennis Elton Butler of Aberdeen.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Wade of Martin, Tenn., and Denna L. Smith (Donny) of Woodland; one son, Danny M. Lantrip (Linda) of Woodland; five grandchildren, Randall Eric Forrester of Tokyo, Japan, Tige Lantrip of Starkville, Robbie Smith (Shannon) of Woodland, Letessa Blissard (Bill) of Woodland and Beth Roberts (Jason) of Martin, Tenn.; six great grandchildren, Rhiannon, Haley and Peyton Forrester, Addie Roberts, and Kiley and Ashlynn Smith.

SHANNON – Wanda McCarley Henderson, 56, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at her home after a long illness. She was born Sept. 8, 1955, in Lee County. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Mission Church in Shannon. She was the children’s Sunday School teacher. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and also the community mother. She loved camping.

MEMPHIS – Mildred O. Wright Briggs, 93, died Monday, May 14, 2012, in Paris, Tenn. She was born July 13, 1918, to Earnest and Myrtle Robbins Wright in Shannon. She was a deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department in Memphis for many years. She was a Baptist.

AMORY – James Albert Bethany, 66, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. Born on July 16, 1945, in Chickasaw County, he was the son of the late Aubrey Jack and Ruth Inez Kelly Bethany. He was a graduate of Aberdeen High School, Class of 1964. He attended Itawamba Community College and was a graduate of Mississippi State University, Class of 1969, with a degree in business administration. He worked in Human Resources in various companies in Mississippi, Georgia and Arkansas. He married Peggy Egger on July 2, 1978. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather known affectionately as “Pop” by his grandchildren. He was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, where he was an Adult Sunday School teacher and a member of Thursday morning Bible study.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at E.E Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Peggy Egger Bethany of Amory; sons, Dr James L. Nichols Jr (Jamie) of Greenville and James W. Bethany (Tricia) of Meridian; daughter, Misty L. Broome (Marc) of Bassfield; brothers, Kelly Bethany (Polly) of Hamilton and Frank “Buddy” Bethany (Sharon) of Bartlett, Tenn.; sisters, Janis Holloway (Harold) of Hamilton and Debbie Shaw of West Point; sisters-in-law, Betty Bethany of Alexandria, La., and Paula Bethany of Corinth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hal and Betty Bourland of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Madeline Nichols, Abigail Nichols, Malia Nichols, Aubrey Bethany and Anna Broome; many nieces and nephews.
