Opal Houston
BALDWYN – Opal Amelia Houston, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Itawamba County on Feb. 5, 1924, to Octo and Cavie Austin Houston. She enjoyed embroidery, making her own greeting cards and being a prayer warrior. She was a devout Christian, a prayer warrior and a member of the First Baptist Church in Baldwyn. She received an A.A. degree from Freed-Hardeman College in 1943. She had been a legal secretary for law firms in Jackson, Ft. Worth, Dallas and Atlanta. She retired and moved to Baldwyn in 1995.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.
He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Nichols of Prescott, Ariz., and Virginia Buchanan of Hickman, Neb.; seven nieces, Regina Shumaker (Lynn), Karen Mansky (Bob), Greta Bellinger, Rosemary Davis, Michelle Niederhaus, Leslie Bitenieks and Dianne Cates; and two nephews, Maury Davis (Jayne) and Craig Buchanan (Ronda).
He was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dixie Davis and Orpha Cates; and a nephew, Mike Cates.
The men of her church will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Baldwyn Building Fund.

LAS VEGAS – Jessie Hemphill, 88, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Las Vegas.

Claudette Sanders
KEVIL, Ky. – Claudette B. Sanders, 78, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky. She was a member of Grace Valley Baptist Church and attended Kevil Baptist Church for years.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Sanders of Kevil, Ky.; one daughter, Pam Cline (Freddie) of Kevil; one granddaughter, Karen Gibson Barnett (Josh) of Paducah; three great-grandchildren, Ty Youngblood, Hadyn Youngblood and Brex Barnett; and one sister, Elizabeth Davis of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Berryhill, and her parents, Jeff and Paula Berryhill.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, Ky., with the Rev. Glen Crowe and the Rev. Stewart Strikland officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Christian Church Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. today until funeral time at 2 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter.

Jack Farris
MANTACHIE – Jack Aaron Farris, 75, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at his home. He was born Aug. 9, 1937, to Jessie Troy and Jimmie Lee Trammel Farris. He worked at Rockwell, Super Sagless and Tupelo Tool and Dye. He owned and operated, along with his wife, Tishtontee Cafe and Game Room in Mantachie. He was part owner of East Main Stamping Manufacturing in Tupelo. He was currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was formerly a member of Lakeland Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and billiards and was especially a devoted father.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Buddy Rushing and Bro. Ronald Franks officiating. Burial will be in Fawn Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, Mike Farris (Wanda) and Larry Wayne Farris (Tonya), both of Dorsey, and Scotty Farris and Tim Farris (Marsha), both of Mantachie; three sisters, Wanda Cantrell and Ernestine Elliff, both of Tupelo, and Avanell Sewell of Ocean Springs; six grandchildren, James Farris, Tasha Enis, Eric Farris (A.K.), Alex Farris, Lee Michael Farris (Tanya), and Christopher Wayne Farris (Amanda); two stepgrandsons, J.T. Roberts and Zachary Roberts; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah Farris, Matthew Farris, Carly Roberts, Cassidy Roberts, Kayla Farris, Ally Farris, Cameron Thompson, Landon Thompson and Aleah Thompson; a special friend and caregiver, Betty Harris, of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Joyce Farris, on Oct. 3, 1994; one brother, J.T. Farris; three sisters, Maxine Westmoreland, Quanna Witt and Betty Jean Farris; one granddaughter, Leesa Gray; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Terry Farris, Lee Farris, Ricky Metcalf, Shane Metcalf, James Farris and Eric Farris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Elliff and Chris Farris.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas White
BRAXTON – Thomas Hiram White, 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, after a long illness. He was born in Lawrence County on May 18, 1927. He graduated from Silver Creek High School. He was employed as a driver for Continental Trailways Bus Co. for 30 years. He owned White’s Florist and White’s Landscaping lnc. since 1969. He was married for 49 years to Marietta White, who preceded him in death. He was remarried in 1999 to Lois White and they have been together for 13 years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was actively involved in his church and Masonic lodge. He served as alderman for Braxton for four years.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with the Rev. John Evans and the Rev. Scott Worley officiating. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Lois P. White; daughters, Dena (Sam) Burleson, of Brandon, Marsha (Steve) Padgett, of Tupelo and Celia (Wesley) Taylor of Brandon; grandchildren, Vonda Burleson, Keith Burleson, Greg Padgett, Jana Padgett, Tina Taylor Williams and Tiffany Taylor Mason; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol Lee of Sumrall.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marietta M. White; parents, Stella and Albert White; brother, Robert White; and two sisters, Dot Parkman and Elmer C. Russell.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Enis Brown Sr.
LADY LAKE, Fla. – Enis Trenton Brown Sr., 88, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at The Villages in Lady Lake, Fla., after an extended illness. He was born on Nov. 27, 1924, in New Site to Clifton Tennessee and Lelia England Brown. He grew up in the New Site community and graduated high school there. He then served with honors in World War II as an Army Air Force gunner sergeant. After the war, he attended college at East Mississippi Junior College at Scooba and Mississippi State University in Starkville, where he earned a degree in agriculture. At the age of 21 he joined the Marietta Masonic Lodge 188 and began teaching agriculture at New Site High School. At the end of his career, he taught young farmers agriculture and life skills in Thomasville, Ga. He grew up working in the family saw milling business. He loved to quail hunt, to farm and to care for livestock.
He is survived by his six children, Enis Trenton Brown Jr. (Brenda) of Eatonton, Ga., Carroll Thomas Brown (Jean Ann) of High Point, N.C., Elizabeth Nan Bancks (Nick) of Jacksonville, Fla., Rebecca (Becky) Lambert of New Site, Nathan O’ Neal Brown (Juanita) of New Site, Daniel Wyatt Brown (Lyn) of Eatonton, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sybil Carr, Libra Moore and MaryVon Mitros; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Pearl Maylene Brown; his parents, Clifton Tennessee Brown and Lelia England Brown; three sisters, Opal Pharr, Erin Moore and Nita Joy Davis; two grandchildren, Sergeant Jonathan Lambert and Ashley Brown Mills; a daughter-in-law, Pamela J. Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Siloam United Methodist Church, County Road 4101, Marietta.

Annie Ruth Hampton
WEST POINT – Annie Ruth Hampton, 59, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at West Point Community Living Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Siloam M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery. Carter Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

CORINTH – Joseph Clarence Rogers, 47, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at his home in Alcorn County.

PONTOTOC – Timothy Ben Ross, 58, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo. He was born Aug. 7, 1954, in Pontotoc County to Collins A. and Mary Elizabeth Dowdy Ross. He worked for M.D.O.T. He was a passionate turkey and deer hunter. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Marty Merritt and Bro. Josh Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Warren Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynn Chapman; a daughter, Kimberly Garrett (John) of New Albany; a son, Korey Ross (Beth) of Pontotoc; two sisters, Patsy Nolley (Larry) of New Albany and Missy Russell (Chris) of Pontotoc; a brother, Dickey Ross (Doris) of Pontotoc; his mother-in-law, Dolly Chapman; his sister-in-law, Glenda Cox; and four grandchildren, Ali Beth Ross, Bo Ross, Gunner Ross and JonRoss Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Keith Nolley.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Dorrough, Jackie Hill, Keith Hill, Richard McCay, Kevin Nolley and Jason Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Dowdy, Colt Hooker, Curt Lewis, Billy Matkins, Larry Nolley, Layton Sappington and Mr. Ross’s grandchildren.

WALNUT – Opal Ellen Campbell Vickery, 82, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. She was born Sept. 2, 1930, to Fred Blaine and Gypsy White Campbell in Walnut. She was retired from Tennessee Business Enterprise for the Blind and Hamdicapped. She also worked for the Juvenile Court in Memphis. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in Walnut.

She is survived by one son, Jimmy Vickery of Walnut; one daughter, Martha Vickery Lee (Kevin) of Memphis; three grandchildren, Kevin P. Lee, Jason M. Lee and David M. Lee (Samantha); and one great-granddaughter, Caroline N. Lee, all of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Walker Vickery; her parents; two sisters, Rosa Lee Campbell and Martha Josephine Campbell; and two brothers, Duwayne Campbell and Fred Brison Campbell.

VARDAMAN – Agnes Laverne Gillespie, 93, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her son’s home in Isola. She was born March 24, 1920, in Pontotoc. She was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney Zane Gillespie of Vardaman and Jerry M. Gillespie of Isola; two sisters, Charla Frances Austin and Virginia Houpe, both of Pontotoc; six grandchildren, Lee Gant, Angie Smith, Cindy Clark, Cristy Lee, Michael Gillespie and Bonnie Gillespie; seven great- grandchildren, Anna Gant, Grey Clark, Sierra Lee, John Macon Gillespie, Ely Clark, Daniel Lee, Jayden Lee; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Justin Smith and Jessica Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ruth and Verlon Easley Ruth; her husband, William Theo Gillespie; two brothers, James Robert Ruth and A.W. Ruth; and a sister, Essie Poole.

FULTON – Annie Laura Montgomery Whitehead, 92, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Courtyard Nursing Home in Fulton. She was born May 28, 1920, to Johnny Montgomery and Bessie Studdard Lesley. She worked several years for the old Fulton Hospital as a janitor. She was a Methodist in belief.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton. Bro. David Perry and Dr. Stephen Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Carolyn (Harold) Ivy of Golden, Evie (Steve) Criswell of Booneville, Barbara Timmons of Fairview; son, Tyner (Melva) Willis of Huntington, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ann Cavess of Baldwyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garvin Whitehead; her father, Johnny Montgomery; her mother, Bessie Lesley; and two sisters, Mamie Campbell and Lena May Ivy.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Andrews, Justin Yielding, Terry Robinson, Kevin Timmons, David Ivy and Daniel Campbell.

Teresa Padgett
AMORY – Teresa A. Padgett, 51, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House. Born on Oct. 25, 1961, in Ackerman, she was a daughter of the late Wayne Patterson and Ann Kellum. She was a graduate of W.P. Daniel High School. Passionate about children’s welfare, she was a DHS volunteer in Rockford, Ill. In 1993, she moved to Amory. For 15 years, she ran Debs Fireworks in Columbus and worked at Dodges Store. She attended The Orchard in Tupelo. Caring, fun-loving, honest and independent, she was a fighter and used that strength during her courageous battle with cancer. Her enjoyments in life were her children and grandchildren; fishing; Alabama football; and music by Travis Tritt and Alabama.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Rose (Merce) of Tupelo; sons, Robbie Lane (fiancée, Cherish) and Ryan Lane of Amory; brother, Tim Cannon (Nina) of New Albany; grandchildren, Xavier, Maggi, Kane, Hunter and Bella; and niece, Kayla Cannon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mom, Sara Patterson; brother, Robert Patterson; and the father of her children, Rob Lane.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Haughton Memorial Park with the Rev. Will Rambo officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bre Lucas and Blaine Smith. Everyone is asked to meet at 2:50 p.m. Friday at the cemetery.

BOONEVILLE – Ruby Carolyn Stephens, 70, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a sudden illness. She was a member of Zion Rest Church of Christ. She was an employee of Blue Bell Manufacturing for 28 years. She retired from Northeast Community College. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and church family. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning Bible class.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Zion Rest Church of Christ with Bro. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Short (Hester McCarley) and Jeanne Zarmora (Martin), both of Booneville; her mother, Sybil Boren of Booneville; two sisters, Betty Foster of Booneville and Janie Pettigo (Vert) of Guntown; two brothers, Ronnie Boren (Janet) of Booneville and Tommy Kesler (Cindy) of Baldwyn; four grandchildren, Jaried Aldridge, Jacob and Jayli McVey, and Jaslyn Zamora.
She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Kesler; her stepfather, Vardaman Boren; and a daughter, Vicky Aldridge.
Pallbearers will be James Stenett, Jackie Scott, Mike Beasley, Ronny Kesler, Gerald, Eddie, Ken Gray and Jeff McVey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Marietta Class of 1960.
