Lorene Meadows
VILLA RICA, Ga. – Lorene Griffin Sappington Meadows, 72, peacefully passed away at her home, Wednesday, May 1, 2013, in the company of her family. Lorene was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Chickasaw County to R.E. “Bunk” Griffin and Earlene Doss Griffin. From 1960 to 1964, she worked at Chickasaw County Tax Collector’s office. She started her business career at Union Camp and relocated to Lafayette, La., then to Altanta, Ga. There she met and married L.R. Sonny Meadows, then moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1992. In 1996 they moved back to Atlanta, Ga., and both retired in Villa Rica, Ga.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, L.R. Sonny Meadows of Villa Rica, Ga.; one son, Mike Sappington (Connie) of Houston; one granddaughter, Macie Sappington of Houston; one niece, Cheryl Owings (Ronnie) of Houston; one nephew, Jay Griffin (Stephannie) of Houston; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Ricks of Conyers, Ga., and Pamela Dingler of Newnan, Ga.; and one stepson, Clinton Meadows of Conyers, Ga.
She is preceded in death by her parents, R.E. “Bunk” Griffin and Earlene Griffin; and her brother, James Franks “Butch” Griffin.

Ellar Mae Hankins
CALHOUN CITY – Ellar Mae Hankins, 68, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Calhoun Health Services. She was a member of Sabougla M.B. Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Black Jack M.B. Church. The Rev. Larry Mays will officiate. Burial will be in Dentontown Cemetery. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge.
She is survived by her son, Terry Hankins of Calhoun City; two daughters, Linda Pittman and Glenda Hankins, both of Calhoun City; three brothers, John Earl Hankins, John T. Hankins of Grenada and Michael Hankins of California; four sisters, Altha Gaston, Lena Thornton, Johnnie Mays and Darlene Hankins; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Johnny Griffin Sr.
WREN – Johnny Melvin Griffin Sr., 68 died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was drafted into Army during the Vietnam War, where he obtained the Purple Heart Medal. He retired from General Motors in Grand Rapids, Mich. He served as chairman for eight years for the Grand Rapids NAACP. He was a member of Narcotics Anonymous. He enjoyed reading, jazz, blues and martial arts.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Union Grove United Methodist Church in Nettleton. Pastor Perry Carr will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge.
He is survived by his wife, Gloris Jean Griffin of Wren; four sons, Johnny Griffin Jr. of Grand Rapids, Melvin Griffin of Indianapolis, Ind., Fredrick Chatman of Wren and Charles Bell of Lake Jackson, Texas; three daughters, Yolanda Griffin of Memphis, Omisha Bragg of Wren and Jessica Moncrief of Lake Jackson, Texas; two brothers, Michael Griffin (Rose) and Lee Floyd Pierce (Lealer), both of Wren; two sisters, Mary Brown and Lisa Birks (Leon) of Wren; and 14 grandchildren.

Elmira Langston
ABERDEEN – Elmira Ewing Langston, 96, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at her home, She was a longtime member of Daniel M.B. Church in Aberdeen.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Daniel M.B. Church. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge.
She is survived by one son, Booker T. Langston of Aberdeen; and one daughter, Rosetta Jones (Frank) of Aberdeen.

Ira Mae Edgeston
RIPLEY – Ira Mae Edgeston, 71, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Darlington Oaks in Verona. She was born Oct. 14, 1941, in Ruston, La., to Noble McMurry and Irabee McMurry. She enjoyed attending religious events like conventions and assemblies. She also enjoyed spreading the word of God and God’s kingdom. She was married to Joe Marlin Edgeston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Foster and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Gary Woodson will officiate. Burial will be in Ruckersville Cemetery at Falkner.
She is survived by two sons, Tyrone Dixson and Deshawn Edgeston; grandchildren, Marlin, Candance, Ciara and Crystal; sisters and brothers, Jack McMurry, Sandra Blackmon, Doris Roberts, Bobby Jean McCraw, Carl McMurry; nieces, Aisha, Lenny, Sophia, Fallonna, Jaquatta and Patricia; and nephews, Taron, Cedeno, Janario, Tony, Andre, Carl Jr., Man, Deon, Mike Jr. and Sidny Edgeston.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family hour from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The body will lie in repose from 1 p.m. to service time Friday.

James Johnson
RIPLEY – James Franklin Johnson, 68, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Rest Haven Nursing Home. He was born March 8, 1945, to Alice and Charlie Johnson. He was a truck driver for 25 years and worked for the county until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at Falkner. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, he touched the lives and hearts of many people. He was married to Vera Mae Johnson from 1965 to 1981. They had five children. He married Starlene Edgeston in 1995.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. James Church of God in Christ with Pastor James Howell officiating. Burial will be in Ruckersville Cemetery at Falkner. Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Starlene Johnson; seven children, Angela Johnson, Gregory Keith (Kiersten) Johnson, Leonard (Robin) Johnson, Cathita (Harry) Richardson, Denise Edgeston, Brandie Johnson and Shekellia Peterson; six sisters, Mattie Mae Johnson, Alice Faye (Eugene) Hines, Rita (Freddie) Spight, Charlene (Ted) Luster, Zelda )(Harry) Barton and Patricia (Charles) Stricklin; three brothers, Claudie (Ruby) Johnson, Howard (Jean) Mitchell and Robert (Ellie) Evans; 14 grandchildren; and three special friends, Donnie Gaillard, Michael Prather and Clem Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.C. Johnson and Jimmy Johnson; and a sister, Nelda Perry.
The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service time at the church.

Marjorie Klek
BOONEVILLE, Ark. – Marjorie Harris Klek, 72, died Thursday, April 25, 2013. She was born July 16, 1940, in Marietta to James Cecil and Lena Pearl Pounds Harris. She was a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader and active in a number of activities at Booneville Elementary School where she was known as “The Popcorn Lady.” She was involved in many activities with the Class of 2001 in the Booneville High School. She loved her family and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener.
She is survived by her husband, William Klek of the home; three daughters, Karen Bullard of Booneville, Ark., Mary Piovesan of Bellingham, Wash., and Amanda Klek of Booneville, Ark.; one sister, Marilyn Turvaville of Marietta; one brother, Wyndel Harris (Elledith) of Marietta; two sisters-in-law, Betty Harris of Greenwood, Ark., and Altie Harris of Alapha, Ga.; five grandchildren, Melissa Hathcoat of Victoria, Texas, Nicole Piovesan of Redmond, Ore., Tony Piovesan of Seattle Wash., Joleigh Tate of Booneville, Ark., and Clayton Wingfield of Alma, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nancy Harris; and four brothers, Bobby, Kenneth, Waymon and Pounds Harris.
Services were Monday, April 29, at Booneville Funeral Service Chapel in Booneville, Ark. Burial was at Old Union Cemetery at Hackett, Ark.
Pallbearers were her nephews and great-nephews.

Jack H. Wiley
IUKA – Jack H. “Jackie” Wiley, 75, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. He was of the Methodist faith. He retired from Packaging Corporation of America after working 39 years as a millwright. He served for several years in the Mississippi National Guard. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and music.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Bro. Gary Watkins will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for noon until service time today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wiley of Iuka; one son, Doug Wiley (Beckie) of Iuka; one daughter, Debbie Lambert (Ricky) of Iuka; one sister, Betty Herrle of Memphis; one grandchild, Jessica Moore (Ryan) of Cairo; three stepgrandchildren, Devin Newcomb, Chance Newcomb and Ashley Allen, all of Iuka; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Lilly, Avary and Dylan Allen of Iuka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Web and Eula Hubbard Wiley; a brother, Billy Wiley; and a sister, Barbara Ann Waddey.

Patti Downs
BOONEVILLE – Patti Jumper Downs, 53, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home. She was born April 13, 1960, in Prentiss County to Bill and Ara Jumper. She was a graduate of Jumpertown High School and Mississippi State University. She was a teacher at Jumpertown School, and she was a member of Jumpertown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading and taking care of her animals. She loved teaching and her students.
Services were Wednesday, May 1, at Jumpertown United Methodist Church with Bro. Robert McCoy and Bro. Jason Franklin officiating. Vickie Chaffin delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Jumpertown Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son, B.J. Ward (friend, Whitney Grissom) of Booneville; her parents; a brother, Danny Jumper (Eleshia) of Booneville; a niece, Sloane Jumper; and a nephew, Warren Jumper; and extended family members, Cindy Hall (Jason), Brooke Lindsey, Dallas Pounds and Dalton Pounds.
Pallbearers were Anthony Michael, George Moore, Mikel Sims, Warren Jumper, Kent Geno and Freddie Corbin. Honorary pallbearers were the faculty and staff of Jumpertown School.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Bradley Eugene Bryant, 22, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home.

Barbara James
BOONEVILLE – Barbara Jean Henley James, 61, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at her home. She was born Dec. 1, 1951, to Vardaman and Merline Henley. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church. She worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital as a LPN.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Brazil officiating. Burial will be in Sumners Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors are her husband, Larry James of Booneville, one daughter, Valerie (Todd) Parker of Rienzi; two sons, Brad James and Michael (Melissa) James, both of Booneville; two sisters, Betty Michael of Booneville and Jane (David) Denton of Duckhill; seven grandchildren, Brandon Feazell, Zach Parker, Destiny Whitley, Hunter Parker, Chloe Parker, Linzie Parker and Larkin James; a special friend, Sharon Overton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Danny Henley; and a brother-in-law, Dick Michael.

Nellie Pope
WEST POINT – Nellie Aylene Dye Pope, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Trinity Personal Care, in Columbus. She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Gloster to Annie Eliza Haley and Marshall Edward Dye. She was a packer for Knickerbocker Manufacturing and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point. She married Walter Duke Pope in 1936. They were married for 70 years until he his death on July 1, 2006.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at West Point. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Claire Cohen (Gary) of New Hope, Pa.; one son, Robert E. Pope (Dudley Ann) of Columbus; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one niece; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her granddaughter, Cathy Rockwell; and four brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Pope, Ryan Hoffpauir, Stacy Hoffpauir, Nathaniel Pope and Robbie Robinson.

Clyde Seawright
BENTONIA – Clyde L. Seawright, 82, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at The Meadows in Fulton. He was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Attala County. He was a Baptist and a retired machinist for Amco Manufacturing.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel in Yazoo City. Burial will be in Bentonia Baptist Cemetery.
He is survived by four sons, William M. (Norma) Seawright of Flora, Leonard Carter (Martha) Seawright of Tupelo, Stephen C. Seawright of Bentonia and Joe Frank (Connie) Seawright of Benton; grandchildren, Angel (Bert) Gregory, Candace (Mark) Pomeroy, Michael Stephens, Corey Seawright, Johnathan (Julie) Seawright, Trevor Seawright and Russell Seawright; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann (Jimmy) Creswell and Janice (Bud) Adams, both of Bentonia, and Beverly Whitehead of Florence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Carter Seawright, and his parents, Connie Seawright and Effie McCrory.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ronald Ham
IUKA – Ronald Clyde “Guinea” Ham, 65, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013.
Services were Wednesday, May 1, at Ludlam Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Bro. Haskell Sparks and Bro. Sammy Barnett officiated.
He is survived by three brothers, Danny Ham (Donna), Lanny Ham and Kevin Ham (Kristie), all of Iuka; three sisters, Ginger Turner (Johnny) of Tishomingo, Janie Hodge (Blane) of Clemson, S.C., and Linda Harber (I.W.) of Tishomingo; 10 nieces and nephews, Brandy Hairrell, Mandy Sie, Heath Ham, Julie Dean, Dustin Pate, Devin Ham, Kelsey Turner, Chloe Turner, Caden Ham and Drew Ham; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Helen Ham, and a brother, Wayne Ham.

Bruce Stanley
FARMERVILLE, La. – Bruce Stanley passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 22, 2013, at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, La. He resided in this area since his college days at Louisiana Tech. A successful businessman, he was the general manager of Read Lumber in Farmerville. He grew up in Baton Rouge, graduating from Broadmoor High School, where he was an outstanding athlete.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Bass Stanley Henderson; two sons, Will Stanley and Brody Stanley; two daughters, Cissy Stevenson (Jay) and Morgan Stanley; his twin sisters, Jeanne S. Triche (Eric) and Joanne S. Hebert; his stepbrothers and stepsisters, Bob Henderson Jr., Duke Henderson, Tareva Henderson and Rhonda H. Aja (Dr. Dan Aja); uncle, Richmond Bass Jr. (Dot), and aunt, Jenny (Dee) Bass Laughlin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richmond Bass Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stanley Sr.; and his father, Robert “Bob” Stanley.
Memorial service was held Thursday, April 25, in Farmerville, La., at Kilpatrick Funeral Home followed by a private service at sunset on Lake D’Arbonne at the chapel. Burial services were held Monday, April 29, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge.

Elizabeth Poss
WEST POINT – Elizabeth Poss, 96, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home. She was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Houston to Cyntha Andrews and Bob Dendy. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Rev. Payton Myers and the Rev. Doran Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carl Wilson, Bill Poss, Chuck Portera, Lee Poss, Ryan Fulgham, Jay Phelps and Robbie Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
She is survived by sons, John L. Poss Jr. (Nina) of Columbus and Fred Poss of West Point; daughters, Ginny Fulgham (Glen) of West Point and Helen Wilson (John) of Rome, Ga.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Poss; a son, Vernon Poss; a grandson, Tim Wilson; a sister, Louise Kendrick; and a brother, Edward Dendy.

COLDWATER – Gerald Wayne McEwen, 59, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at his home in Coldwater. He was an empoyee of R.R. Donnelly & Sons in Senatobia.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coldwater Baptist Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery at Coldwater. Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by one daughter, Corey McEwen White (Brian) of Pontotoc; one sister, Mary Rayburn-Baker of Brandon; three grandchildren, Blake, Brittney and Brooke; three nieces, Tracy, Mary-Margaret and Juli; one nephew, Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Blake Upchurch, Chuck Littlejohn, Brian White, Fred Ogg, Dale McEwen and Tyler Rayburn.

Aubrey Lipford Sr.
MYRTLE – Aubrey S. Lipford Sr., 72, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born on April 1, 1941, to William Alonzo and Ida Carter Lipford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and a member of Unity Mason Lodge 95. He was an avid camper and belonged to River M’s Camping Club in Memphis.
Services with Masonic rites will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Old Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Butler officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Martha Sue Lipford of Myrtle; two children, Michelle Walker (Tom) of Somerville, Tenn., and Aubrey Lipford Jr. of Memphis; four grandchildren, Amber and Courtney Walker of Somerville, Ashley Stern (Greg) of Owings, Md., and Stephen Lipford of Memphis; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Emily Stern; two sisters, Louise Beasley (Junior) of Casey and Myrtle Mackey (Sidney) of Mt. Pleasant; and one brother, Charles Lipford of Casey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
