Billy Jones
JUMPERTOWN – Billy Lee Jones, 64, of Jumpertown died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born March 26, 1949, to Christine Standford Jones and Leroy Jones. He grew up in the Dumas community and was a 1967 graduate of Pine Grove High School. He also graduated from Northeast Mississippi Community College. He was a member of Jumpertown United Methodist Church, where he currently served on the committee of Trustees. He served as chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee for many years and taught Sunday School. He always wanted to be at church early to have coffee ready for everyone. He was a man of great character and integrity.
He married Norma Jo English Jones, the love of his life, on March 1, 1980. They enjoyed traveling and going out to eat at different restaurants, but they mostly enjoyed being together at home working in the yard or taking care of the house. Their favorite pastime was sitting side-by-side in their recliners, holding hands, and watching their favorite television shows. Together they raised four daughters and created a very happy life in the Jumpertown community. He enjoyed working in his yard and helping others. His eight grandchildren brought him great joy and he loved them so much. He enjoyed sharing stories about his grandchildren with everyone. He was loved beyond measure by his family and all who knew him.
He was an avid Ole Miss football fan and loved tailgating in The Grove. He loved inviting friends to visit on game days. He was a member of University of Mississippi Athletics Association. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Lodge 47 of Ripley.
He was an employee of Long Distribution of Corinth for the past 28 years. He loved his work and customers. He always said that his job never seemed like work. His customers became lifetime friends. He enjoyed spending time with them. Prior to working for Long’s, he worked 15 years at American Biltrite in Ripley in Quality Control.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today, May 21, 2013, at Jumpertown United Methodist Church with Bro. Jason Franklin officiating and Ronnie Sweeny and Randy Long delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Jumpertown Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Norma Jo English Jones; four daughters, Lori Stroupe Sims of Booneville, Leslie Jones (Jonathan) Pettey of Saltillo, Andrea Jones (Travis) Tucker of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Marcie Whitley (Dustin) McCafferty; his mother, Christine Jones of Dumas; two sisters, Brenda Jones Robertson and Bonita Jones (Barry) Crawford, both of Ripley; two brothers, Bobby (Martha) Jones and Bruce (Janet) Jones, both of Dumas; eight grandchildren, Cayson Coleman, Kaylee Sims, Livvy Coleman, Sidney Tucker, Emma Pettey, Jacob Tucker, Ruthie McCafferty and Maggie McCafferty.
He is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Jones; father-in-law, Norman English; and his grandparents, W.T. (Bill) and Ida Jones and Robert Herman and Ozelle Standford.
Pallbearers will be Jarvine Shackelford, C.O. Boone, David Brown, Johnny Robbins, Ronnie Sweeny, Shane Strickland, Larry English and William Ellis Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class, Craig Brown, Butch Essary, Donnie Lauderdale, Rusty Boone, Tracy Dye, Jonathan Pettey, Travis Tucker, Dustin McCafferty, Mikel Sims, Nathan Robertson, Brandon Crawford and employees of Long Distribution.
Visitation will be until noon on today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. to service time today at the church.

Faye Jenkins
WATER VALLEY – Emmie Faye Howell Jenkins, 83, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley. She was born April 13, 1930, in Calhoun County to Jesse Ellis and Ethel Shephard Howell. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Calhoun County; a past Matron of the Eastern Star Water Valley No. 5; and a former member of the Water Valley/Oxford Shrinettes. She owned and operated Faye’s Beauty Shop in Water Valley until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, tending her flowers, gardening and sewing. She loved being around people, always doing things to help others. She was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley with Bro. Ronald “Bubba” Jenkins and Bro. Raymond Aven officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley.
She is survived by two sons, James “Mickey” Jenkins (Linda) of Tupelo and Richard “Ricky” Jenkins (Deana) of Hernando; one sister, Alma Lovelady of Water Valley; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Uree Adams, Ludie C. Dunn, Lennie May Dickey and Opal Howell; three brothers, James David Howell, Jesse Willie Howell and Jesse Ellis Howell Jr.
Pallbearers will be Adam Jenkins, Jason Rushing, Cameron Halbert, Randy Taylor, Cary Busby and Matt Lucas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lucille Hoard
BOONEVILLE – Gladys Lucille Hoard, 96, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. She was born May 2, 1917, to Leland and Minnie Bell Scott Holley. She was a seamstress working in various factories in Booneville. She was a member of Zion Rest Church of Christ.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Zion Rest Church of Christ with Minister Tony Brown and Minister Jim Estes officiating. Burial will be in Zion Rest Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Margie (Robert) Hatcher of Marietta; one son, Marvin (Barbara) Hoard of Tupelo; one sister, Grace Rogers of Booneville; 10 grandchildren, Myron (Linda) Frank, Eric (Lori) Hoard, Lisa Hoard, Renei (Gary) Davis, Regina (Stephen) Lucas, Mike (Yvonne) Hoard, Jeremy (Lisa) Hoard, Janice (Ronny) Sappington, Tammy (Randell) Jordan and Sam Hoard; 15 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Hoard; two sons, Howard and Winford Hoard; one sister, Ethel Mae Taylor; two brothers, Clarance and Harold Holley; one great-grandson, Chris Sappington; one son-in-law, Hershel Pharr; two daughters-in-law, Jane Hoard and Eloise Hoard; and one great-grandson-in-law, Ivan Nash.
Pallbearers are Eric Hoard, Myron Frank, Casey Moore, Corey Crowell, Nathan Frank and Jeremy Hoard.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.

Elizabeth Cooper
MILLBROOK, Ala. – Elizabeth Charlene Cooper, 71, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Prattville, Ala. She was born July 4, 1941, in Ashland. She was a Baptist and a homemaker who lived for her family, children and grandchildren. She had a kind spirit and heart and was faithful to the Lord.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Hal Clifford Cooper of Millbrook, Ala.; one son, Hal Blairwayne Cooper of Prattville, Ala.; one daughter, Karen Marie Hamilton of Hernando; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Kay Akers; a stepdaughter, Sandra Nelle Cooper; her parents, Henry Blair Bright and Eva Lee Rogers Bright; and two brothers, Roger Bright and Dan Bright.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alvie Foote
ABERDEEN – Alvie Oscar Foote Sr., 86, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Monroe County, the son of Alvie Oscar Foote and Ava Foote. He was a lifetime resident of Aberdeen. He was a retired staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be at 11 a. m. Friday at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery with military honors. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Foote Warren (Ronnie) of Aberdeen; one son, Alvie Foote Jr. (Christy) of Las Vegas, Nev.; one stepdaughter, Janice Kennedy (Terry) of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Natalie Warren, Tracey Foote and Alisa Foote; one brother, Wesley Reed “Jack” Foote (Sadie) of LePanto, Ark.; four nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Laverne Foote; one son, Herman Foote; five brothers and one nephew.
Members of the military will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

RIPLEY – Junie Mae Cartwright Timmons, 83, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth. She was born June 24, 1929, to Charlie and Mittie Mae Hall Cartwright. She was a member of The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ in Blue Mountain. She was retired from American Biltrite.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ with the Rev. Joe McKnight and Pastor Kathy Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanette Plaxico (Charles) of Ripley; two sons, B.J. Rainey (Jovonna) of New Albany and Roger Cartwright (Sherry) of Ripley; three sisters, Evelyn Eloise Lewis (Thomas) of Olive Branch, Sarah Jean Brownlee of Booneville and Charleen Bullard (Cliff) of Booneville; four brothers, Bobby Wayne Cartwright of Byhalia, Paul M. Cartwright (Penny) of Byhalia, Jimmy Nichols (Pam) and Jackie Nichols; two granddaughters, Charlene Annette Herring (Keith) of New Albany and Lindsey Thompson of Arlington, Tenn.; three grandsons, Chuck Aldon Plaxico (Tammy) of Westerville, Ohio, Dalton and Lucas Cartwright, both of Ripley; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashlee Goetsch Plaxico, Mason Plaxico, Maximus Plaxico, Miya Plaxico, all of Westerville, Ohio, Carlie Crum and Alexandra Herring, both of New Albany, Zachary Defir and Noah Thompson, both of Arlington, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny P. Timmons; grandson, Samuel Edge; three sisters, Hazel Lindley, Sallie Henry and Dorothy Foreman; and three brothers, Albert Hillard, John and Gary Cartwright.

Rev. Edgar Cooper
PONTOTOC – The Rev. Edgar LaWayne Cooper, 68, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany after an extended illness. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pontotoc County. He surrendered to the ministry in 1976 and served as pastor of New Hope Baptist in Bude, and New Hope Baptist and Schoona Chapel Baptist churches in Pontotoc County. He was also an ordained deacon.
Services are at 3 p.m. today at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Crawley and Bro. Stark Aldridge officiating. Burial will be in the Center Hill Baptist Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tommie Nell Cooper; one daughter, Ann Mooneyhan (Rodney); two sons, Jeff (Kim) and Danny (Kelly) all of Pontotoc; five grandchildren: Tiffany Nunnelee (Eric), Matthew Cooper, Morgan Cooper, Makenna Cooper and Jessalynn Cooper, all of Pontotoc; one sister, Mildred Grant (Jessie O’Neil); one brother, J.C. (Carolyn); his mother-in-law, Effie Smith; one brother-in-law, Gary Smith (Theresa) of Pontotoc; one aunt, Viola Byrd of Covington, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Annie Cooper.

Willie Owens
REGAN, Tenn. – Willie Lee Owens, 73, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Calhoun County to Lee Ander and Rosa Talent Owens. He was a retired businessman, truck driver and cattle dealer. He also enjoyed training, riding and showing walking horses. He was a member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Madia Newman Owens of Ragan, Tenn.; two sons, Tony Owens of Regan, Tenn., and Mike (Nancy) Caruso of Chicago; two daughters, Ramona Owens of Jacksonville, Fla., and Becky (Bob) Cobb of Dyersburg, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Weslee Partington of Jacksonville, Fla., Ashley Cobb (Josh) Hyatt of Knoxville, Tenn., Caleb Cobb of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Michael, Matthew and Marissa Caruso of Chicago; great-grandson, Evean Partington of Jackson, Fla.; and three sisters, Vannie Ree Parker and Erma Shankle of Calhoun City, and Betty (Jerry) Haimes of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; G.W., James Owens and an infant brother Sherman.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardamen with Bro. John Haimes and Bro. Robert Alexander officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in Calhoun County

Boyce Massey
SENATOBIA – Boyce Massey, 78, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia. He was born July 2, 1934, in Calhoun County to Opha Massey and Vellie Edward Massey. He was a retired construction worker and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a Shriner and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by one daughter, Elayne Brown of Manahattan, Kan.; one sister, Patricia (Steve) Weeks of Noxapter; one brother, Dennis (Peggy) Massey of Senatobia; one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City. Burial will be in Elzy Cemetery in Vardaman.

Florence Jenkins
PONTOTOC – Florence Jenkins, 95, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Greensboro, Ga. She was born and raised in Pontotoc She had lived the last 16 years with her daughter, Carolyn, in Greensboro, Ga. She was a Baptist. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carey Springs Baptist Church. Bro. Junior Ritchie will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three children, Carolyn Shirley of Greensboro, Ga., Jerry Jenkins (JoAnn) of Augusta, Ga., and Larry Jenkins (Connie) of Tupelo; grandchildren, Tammy, Lajuanna, Melonie, Shea, Sharon, Chris, Brian, Glen and Christian; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. Jenkins; her parents, Joe and Dolly Lois Young Miller; two brothers, Clell Miller and Joe Miller.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
