William Morris
MEMPHIS – William Morris, 85, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel.

‘Cowboy’ Gentry
ABERDEEN – Novel Debourice Gentry, “Cowboy,” 85, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born Sept. 8, 1924, to William Neal Gentry and Gracie Thompson Gentry in Pontotoc. He lived the past 65 years in Monroe County. He retired after 38 years as a Road Grader Operator for 4th District Monroe County. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Mark Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Danny P. Gentry and wife, Lynn of Aberdeen and Stephen D. Gentry and wife, Joyce of Baldwin, La.; one sister Clestine Newell of Tupelo; one brother, Alton Gentry and wife, Norma of Universal City, Texas; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virtie Mae Tutor Gentry; one son, William Neal Gentry; one sister, Elsie Graves; and three brothers, Burnice, Bonnie and James Gentry.
Pallbearers will be Todd Gentry, Rowell Leffew, Steve Haynes, Frankie Little, Sonny clay, Sid Herndon and Jessie Ballard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Haynes, Stephen Lagrange, Bubba Sanders and Freddie Grubbs.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carolyn Gaines
NEW ALBANY – Carolyn Ann Downs Gaines, 57, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at her home. She was born July 22, 1952, in New Albany to Joseph Houston and Julia Pearl Graves Downs. She had worked at Munsingwear and Benchcraft prior to becoming disabled. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Shawn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Gaines of New Albany; one daughter, Teresa Smith of New Albany; one son, Rodney Gaines (Tammy) of Etta; one brother, Garry Downs of New Albany; and one grandson, Trent Smith.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Morphis; and a brother, Larry Downs.

Johnny Cummings
BOONEVILLE – Johnny Bob Cummings, 77, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born March 18, 1933, in Itawamba County to William and Bessie Ingram Cummings. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Korea and enjoyed gardening, carpentry, and bluegrass music. He was well-known for his yard decorations at Christmas.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Cartwright, Bro. Lee Dillard and Bro. Dale Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Fugitt Cummings; one daughter, Linda (Billy) Berryman; two sons, Tim (Dianne) Cummings and Tony (Melissa) Cummings; one sister, Katie Lindsey; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Diane Cummings; one son, Steve Cummings; one sister, Janice Nicholson; and one brother, Bill Cummings.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

FULTON – Thomas Ray “Tommy” Pierce, 59, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, in Tupelo. He was born Feb. 5, 1951, in Fulton to Quinton D. and Wilma J. Whitehead Pierce. He worked for the Salvation Army and had served in the Army National Guard.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Itawamba Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Gene Ashbury officiating. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan P. Broughton of New Hope, Ala. and Jane P. Hinton of Toney, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Nathan W. and Nancy B. Harris Pierce and Kellous M. and Maudie M. Sanderson Whitehead.

Melvin McCollum
NEW ALBANY – Melvin Elaine McCollum, 87, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Union County Health and Rehab. He was born April 22, 1923, in Pontotoc County to Troy McCollum and Zoma Wise McCollum. He served in the U.S Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a self-employed business man and a member of the New Prospect Primitive Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Larry Simpson and Elder Rusty Wise officiating. Burial will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christine Rakestraw McCollum of New Albany; a daughter, Diane Browning (Dean); and three sons, Steve McCollum (Sandra) of New Albany, Randy A. McCollum (Lisa) of Vicksburg and Ricky L. McCollum (Beverly) of New Albany.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren Mike Browning (Emily), Deanna Browning Wise (Phillip), Ginger McCollum Statom (Gabriel), Suzanne McCollum Brockway (Patrick), Angela McCollum, Krista McCollum, Allen McCollum, Tyler McCollum, Tanner McCollum and Tate McCollum; eight great-grandchildren, Rob Browning, Ross Browning (Courtney), Matt Browning, John Taylor Wise, Adam Wise, Margaret Statom, Jennie Statom and Sarah Statom; three sisters, Alice Goolsby (Loyd), Barbara Rucker (Faye) and Carol Jacobs (Norman); and one brother, D.G. (Doc) McCollum (Grace).
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Victoria Simpson and Louise Dowdy; and three brothers, Travis McCollum, L.T. McCollum and James McCollum
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
