Rosie Strickland
MICHIGAN CITY – Rosie Strickland, 68, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Samuel Chapel Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today.

Timothy Briggs Jr.
LAMAR – Timothy Briggs Jr., 57, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Concord M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Roscoe McKinney Jr.
MEMPHIS – Roscoe McKinney Jr., 67, formerly of Holly Springs, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Highlands of Memphis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with family time from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Kelvin Hubbard
HOLLY SPRINGS – Kelvin Hubbard, 43, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark M.B. Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Mt. Teamer (Soul Cemetery) in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today with the family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church from 1:30 to 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

James Sloan
TUPELO – James Sloan, 69, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was born on March 29,1944, to James Chester Sloan Sr. and Ivory Minnie Sloan. He joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Belden at an early age. He attended George Washington Carver School. His favorite sports were basketball and boxing. On Aug. 3, 1966, he was inducted in the Army. He served three years in Vietnam and, after serving honorably, he retired from the Army.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Inspirational Community Baptist Church in Tupelo. The Rev. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Porter’s Memorial Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Ann Vaughn Sloan; four children, Eric Sloan (Tina), Tara Sloan, Tawana Sloan and Chadocka Sloan, all of Tupelo; one goddaughter, Brandi Johnson of Tupelo; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mona Sloan Harris of Grand Rapids, Mich., Norman Sloan Moore (Albert), Marline Sloan Johnson (Sugg) and Regina Sloan McKinney,(Gary); one brother, James Chester Sloan of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday.

Julia Phillips
OXFORD – Julia Nathaniel Pettis Phillips, 65, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. A native of Lafayette County, she was the daughter of Jack Pettis and Willie Bell Pettis. She was a member of Tobby Tubby M.B. Church, where she served on the pantry committee. She loved cooking, flowers and her grandkids. She enjoyed talking to people and sharing the wonderful sense of laughter she had.
A Celebration of Life service will be at noon Saturday at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building. The Rev. Lee Earl Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Lakeshia Phillips of Oxford; one son, Greg (Mary) Pettis of Oxford; three sisters, Ella Oliver of Oxford, Katie Dodson of Maywood, Ill., and Estelle Mathis of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Tony Hampton of Oxford; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother who raised her, Linnie Pettis; and one son, Percy Phillips.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Tobby Tubby M.B. Church.

David Webb Sr.
OXFORD – David Webb Sr., 93, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Graceland Care Center in Oxford. A native of Lafayette County, he was the son of Tom Lewis and Mammie Webb. He was a member of Buford Chapel United Methodist Church, where served as a trustee, class leader and lay leader. He was a member of the staff parish relations and overseer of the cemetery. He was also a member of the College Hill Water Association, a foster grandparent with the North Mississippi Regional Center and a member of Stafford Masonic Lodge 523 P.H.A.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Clear Creek M.B. Church. The Rev. Bobby Dailey will officiate. Burial will be in Buford Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Lois (Walter) Smith of Chicago and Adriene B. Webb of Richton Park, Ill.; four sons, David (Mary) Webb Jr. of Markham, Ill., Charles (Bernice) Webb of Oxford, Sharron (Anne) Webb of Richton Park, Ill., and John (Elsie) Quarles of San Diego, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Webb, and two sons, Jessie Webb and Willie Webb.
Visitation will be two hours prior services on Saturday at the church.

Carlenna Pegues
OXFORD – Carlenna Pegues, 86, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at her residence in Oxford. A native of Lafayette County, she was the daughter of Clarence and Anne Liza Pegues. She was a member of Union Hill M.B. Church, where she was benevolent clerk, decorator and choir member. She was a retired teacher with the Oxford School District with 39 years of service. She was instrumental in the acquisition of the public city pool and the annexation of Molly Barr Cove to the City of Oxford. She loved flowers, dogs, especially her dog Mac, and taking care of small animals.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Hill M.B. Church. The Rev. Porchia McGlown will officiate. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Angliee Pegues of Oxford; one son, Freddie (Ruth) Pegues of Abbeville; one sister, Pearlie Buford of Oxford; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Union Hill M.B. Church.

Earlie Terry
NETTLETON – Earlie Leslie Terry, 74, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory.

Billy S. Davis
CEDAR BLUFF – Billy S. Davis, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home in Cedar Bluff. He was born July 2, 1933, in Lamar County, Ala., the son of the late Verdo Clarence and Wilma Cloe Cook Davis. He attended Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and automotive mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Vernon, Ala., with Rob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Furnace Hill Cemetery in Vernon, Ala. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one sister, Lena I. Hilbert (Ray) of Dover, Ohio; his nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jimmy and Stacy McKee of Pheba, and Lewis and Martha Gail Stafford of West Point
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Elvin, John and Paul Davis.
Pallbearers will be Jay Davis, Larry Hilbert, Eugene Marcinko, Charles Cook, Steve McKee, Ronald White, David Foster and Bobby Joe McKee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Hood, Pete Gifford, Roland Lyon, Hubbard Wooten, Matthew Garcia and the members of the 16th Section Hunting Club.

Reda Sheffield
OXFORD – Sereda Franks “Reda” Sheffield died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Born in Itawamba County, she was married to Dr. Roy Sheffield for 66 years. She worked while her husband completed his education at the University of Tennessee. Throughout their marriage, she continued to support him and host functions for the Mathematics Department at Ole Miss. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Sunday school class. In previous years she worked with Vacation Bible School and the nursery. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the American Contract Bridge League.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford with Dr. Eric Hankins officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Roy D. Sheffield of Oxford.

CORINTH – Waymon Jeffery White, 51, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at his home.

IUKA – Dorothy Askew, 79, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at ECM Hospital in Florence, Ala. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka.

Dr. James Edwards
NEW ALBANY – James Milton “Doc” Edwards, 85, died at his home on May 21, 2013. He was born July 10, 1927, in Jackson to James Corbett and Laura Clark Edwards. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Pontotoc High School, Mississippi College and the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. He served as past president of the Mississippi Dental Association.
An avid aviator, he enjoyed radio control models and had restored a 1951 Fleet bi-plane and built a single place Pitts Special. He had served as chief judge for the International Model Airplane contests in Germany, South Africa and China and permanently in Las Vegas. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and Academy Model Aeronautics. Other interests he enjoyed were hunting, fishing and golf. He was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany and its “80′s Plus” Sunday School class. He was a member of Rotary International.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Ricky Blythe officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Helen Edwards; a daughter, Pat E. Berry (Charles Russell) of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Patti Danielson; a grandson, Russell Berry of Starkville; and a granddaughter, Laurabeth Berry Harris (Drew) of Charlotte, N.C.; two stepgrandchildren, John Danielson and Jennifer Noranjo; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jackie Willis Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Charles Russell Berry, Russell Berry, Wally Henry, Tommy Barkley, James Byers, Gene Taylor, Russell Cook and Dan Skinner. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace L. Henry, Dean Henry, Don Willis, Lester Willis, John David Pennebaker and the “80′s Plus” Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of New Albany.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Virginia Chrestman
OXFORD – Virginia Ann Harrington Chrestman, 72, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at her home. She was born on Nov. 23, 1940, in Houston. She married Melvin E. Chrestman Sr. on June 25, 1960. She worked for the City of Oxford. She was a member of the Pilot Club, the Oxford Garden Club and the First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Oxford. Pastors Robert Allen and Eric Hankins will officiate. A graveside service will at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Woodland. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Melvin E. Chrestman Sr.; her sister, Joyce Dickerson (Jim); her sons, Melvin E. Chrestman Jr. (Melinda Smith) and Hamilton Lee Chrestman (Patricia; three granddaughters, Kate, Maggie and Griffin; a grandson, Henry Lee; an aunt Mrs. Stennis Fortner of Woodland; and a number of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hamilton Durell Harrington (1969) and her mother, Mabel Lourette Harrington (2010).

EUPORA – Margie M. Littlejohn, 70, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Marlene Hitchcock
PONTOTOC – Marlene Patterson Hitchcock, 82, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Sunshine Health Care in Pontotoc. She was born April 10, 1931, to Eulice F. Patterson and Amye White Patterson of Pontotoc. She was a graduate of Algoma High School Class of 1950. She married Thomas L. “Droop” Hitchcock on Aug. 29, 1951. They had three children. She was a retired garment and furniture seamstress. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Pontotoc and a member of the Abundant Life Sunday School Class as long as her health permitted. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Pontotoc. The Rev. Roger Shock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Forest Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her sister, Faye Patterson Sills of Thaxton; two daughters, Paula Wren of Saltillo and Marla Walls of Pontotoc; one son, Joe Hitchcock of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Jennifer Dye (Steve), Karla Morris (Tim), Scott Walls (Melanie), Tyler Sneed (Courtney), Brittany Poole (John) and Micah Wren; 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas L. Hitchcock; a sister, Joann Patterson Enis; a brother, George R. Patterson; and two infant great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Mapp, Jimmy Roberts, Jon David Naugher, Shane Clayton, Kyle Walker, Kelly Luther and Wayne Mahon. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Clayton, Jacob Mapp, William White, Devan Dallas, Charles Thomas, Jimma Clayton, Beth Luther Waldo and Patsy Luther Walker.

VERONA – Icie Marie Zinn, 42, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at her home in Verona.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chandlers Temple CME Church in Verona. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sheryl Grammer
MOOREVILLE – Sheryl Lynn Goggins Grammer, 61, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at her daughter’s residence following an extended illness. She was born July 2, 1951, in Tupelo to Farrell Goggins and Sybil Phillips Goggins. A lifelong resident of Lee County, she graduated from Tupelo High School and worked as a secretary in the furniture manufacturing business before becoming disabled. She was a very devoted mother, sister and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren, never missing an event in which they were involved. She loved her little companion, Kissy, who gave her great comfort during her failing health. She was a member of South Green Street Baptist Church in Tupelo.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Private burial will follow in Palmetto Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10:00 a.m. to service time Saturday.
Survivors include her daughter, Christy Blanchard of Mooreville; stepdaughter, Nikki Grammer of Tupelo/Oxford; one brother, Bill Moore Jr. of Crossville, Tenn.; sister, Kitty Simmons (Butch) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Bailey Blanchard, Emma Blanchard, Maddi Blanchard and Carter Barefoot; a host of nieces and nephews; her friend and father of Christy, Chris Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Russell, Parker Mims, Freddie Russell, Kelly Mims, Stephen Alred, Austin Lauderdale and Mike Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Carson Mims, Chris Blanchard and David Neilsen.
