Fred West
TUPELO – Fred Lee West, 83, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his residence. A Ratliff community native, he was born March 1, 1930, to Griffie Allen and Vera Mae Ratliff West. He grew up in Saltillo and had attended Itawamba Junior College where he studied automotive mechanics. Serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947 to 1950, he spent his active duty stationed all over the world. He had a long and stellar career with Bordon’s Ice Cream retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service. Throughout his life, he maintained a passion for his mechanical skill and always kept up to date on the newest automotive technology. He loved gardening and yard work and was a longtime member of Tupelo Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Mike Drewery officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Earlene Ausbon West; one daughter, Yevonne “Bonnie” Henry (Billie) of the Palmetto Community; two sons, Kenneth Ray West and Brian West (Abegail), all of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Rebekah Kraft (Edward) and Eric West, both of Tupelo, Scott West of Nettleton and Julius Mirai West of Mt. View, Calif.; two step-grandchildren, Patrick Henry of Lake Piomingo and Levender Henry of the Palmetto community; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter West and Ayden Kraft.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Allen and Hugh Glenn West; and one sister, Clarene West.
Pallbearers will be Eric and Scott West, Patrick Henry, Jon, Vance and Joe Yerby.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reba Martin Morris
AMORY – Reba Martin Morris, 82, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Fulton to Henry E. and Delia Hall Martin. She retired after 30 years of service as an inspector for Reed’s Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Amory. She was an avid fisherman. She loved her grandkids and the time she spent with them and also enjoyed the time she spent with her puppy, Little Bit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery in Nettleton.
Survivors include her children, James Larry Morris (Rita) of Aberdeen, Jimmy Dale Morris (Margie) of Mooreville, Melissa “Lisa” Dodd (Richard) of Amory and Linda Mallory (Gerald) of Shannon; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; niece, Betty Faye Saxton of Canton; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pruitt Morris; and one great-grandchild, Steven Christopher Ray.
Pallbearers will be Chris and Andrew Dodd, William Keller, Aaron Pearson, Tommy Morris, Josh Hester and Matthew Null.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rev. Walter Lumsden
BOILING SPRINGS LAKES, N.C. – The Rev. Walter Avery Lumsden of Boiling Spring Lakes, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wedesday, May 22, 2013, at New Hanover Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Bayou Meto, Ark., to James Walter Lumsden and Louella Webb Lumsden. He graduated from DeWitt High School in DeWitt, Ark., and from Piedmont International University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He also studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He has pastored several churches in North Carolina and in Mississippi. At the time of his home going, he was pastor of New Life Baptist Church, Ash, N.C.
He was known throughout Brunswick County for his unstinting work in disaster relief, enlisting young people to make homes of the elderly wheelchair friendly, providing bicycles at Christmas to disadvantaged children, and Hispanic ministry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and serving as counselor at North Carolina Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June l, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Oak Island. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. Andrews Mortuary in Wilmington, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Carmel Lucy Wise Lumsden; sons, John Webb Lumsden of Tupelo and Salathiel Lee Lumsden of Columbia, S.C.; daughters-in-law, Reba and Deeanna; grandchildren, Felicia Dawn Higgins, Christa Jo Lumsden, Justin Andrew Lumsden, Rebekah Lea Lumsden, Nicholas Aaron Lumsden and Elizabeth Helen Lumsden; brothers Oliver Lumsden, Robert Lumsden and John F. Lumsden; and sister Edith Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Alice Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brunswick Baptist Men Disaster Relief, Brunswick Baptist Hispanic Work, or NC Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell.

Charles Poss
ABERDEEN – Charles Ervin Poss, 74, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at his residence. He was born April 17, 1939, in Una in Clay County, to Walter Howard Poss and Raine Barnes Poss. He had lived in Aberdeen for the past 56 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening to gospel music, reading the Bible and helping others. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He retired from Walker Manufacturing Company after 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. Burial is at Una Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Mobley Poss of Aberdeen; three sons, Gregory Howard Poss (Lisa) of Aberdeen, David Allan Poss (Kelly) of Amory and Brian Edward Poss of Aberdeen; two sisters, Jane White (Erwin) of West Point and Betty Bowen (Bud) of West Point; one sister-in-law, Barbara Poss of Seymour, Tenn; one brother-in-law, Jerry Griggs of Okolona; five grandchildren, Dustin, Jon David, Megan, Ava and Jake; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Charles Gary, Lucion, Wallace, Jimmy and Ernie Poss; and sister, Sandra Griggs.
Pallbearers will be family.

Margaret Bratton
WEST POINT – Margaret Bratton, 55, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She was born Dec. 20, 1957, in Lee County, to Martha Stephens and Marion Bratton Jr. She was a graduate of West Point High School and an employee of the city of West Point. She will always be remembered for her work in Sally Kate Winters Park and the Kitty Dill Memorial Parkway, helping to keep downtown West Point beautiful.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Funderburg, the Rev. John Kellogg and the Rev. R.C. Bryan officiating.
She is survived by brothers, Marion Bratton III (Emily) of West Point and Marc Bratton of Caledonia; sisters, Lisa Rhea (Roger) of West Point and Marilyn Searcy (Don) of West Point; five nieces and nephews, Allison Carter (Chris), Tyler Bratton (Bree), Megan Searcy, Brittany Rhea and Roger Rhea Jr.; and a great-niece, Catherine Tyler Carter.

WATER VALLEY – Andrew Conner Turner, infant son of Jeremy and Tara Thoms Turner, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Water Valley. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Kennedy
TISHOMINGO – Frances Kennedy, 88, died Saturday, May 25, at North Mississippi Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tishomingo City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dan Wood
TUPELO – Billy Dan Wood, 62, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. A Tutwiler native, he was born May 6, 1951, to Herbert Lee and Harriet Eldine Childs Wood. He was raised in Drew, Mississippi, and worked for the Central Services Association.
Private graveside services will be today at Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Linda Wood; two daughters, Dana Daugherty (Ben) of Tupelo and Ginger Stringer (Todd) of Clarksdale; two grandchildren, Crosby Claire and Marleigh Daugherty; his mother, Eldine Wood; and one brother Furney Wood.
He was preceded in death by his father.
