Hattie Downs
BOONEVILLE – Surrounded by her family, Hattie Ellen Young Downs, 91, departed this earthly life Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. She was born Oct. 29, 1919, in Booneville to Tandy K. and Etta Jane Michael Young. She was the salutatorian of the Jumpertown class of 1937. Following graduation, she married Earl Downs, and they shared 51 years together. She retired from Prentiss Manufacturing Company. After her husband died, she became a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Carolina United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, M.Y.F. leader and a member of the U.M.W.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kerry Powell officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Janie Downs and Elizabeth “Sis” Koon (Obie), all of Booneville; a sister, Elminia Potts of Booneville; five grandchildren, Nelson Koon (Mary) of Fulton, Susan Lambert (Johnny), Annett Treece (Steve), Tyron Koon and Roy Koon (Leslie), all of Booneville; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Mattie Calton and Mary Frank Inman; and three brothers, William Young, George “Tootsie” Young and Buster Young.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Koon, Cody Koon, Trey Koon, W.L. Potts, Jerry Young and Gerry Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carolina Methodist Church Building Fund, 2001 Ninth St., Booneville, MS 38829.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Glen Skelton
BALDWYN – Glen Skelton, 91, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at his home. He retired from Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad with over 40 years of service. He moved to Baldwyn in 1980. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member, deacon and choir member of East Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at East Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Rex Bullock and Larry Cartwright officiating. Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with military honors. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Inman Skelton of Baldwyn; his daughters, Sue Munn (Chuck) of Diamondhead and Judy Schueren of Kirtland, Ohio; his stepson, Ricky Skelton (Becky) of Rienzi; his stepdaughter, Myra Yarbrough (Jerry) of Baldwyn; his sister, Lorena Randle of Horn Lake; his grandchildren, Buddy Schueren (Shelley) and David Schueren (Jenny); six great-grandchildren, Carolyn Santoriella (Nick), Amanda Schueren, Emily Schueren, John Schueren, Jake Schueren and Joey Schueren; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Bryon Skelton and Joy Skelton; his stepgrandchildren, Lee Skelton, Tiffany Skelton, Andy and Cassandra Skelton; and one great-great-grandchild, Kellan Santoriella.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Nicholson Skelton; his first wife, Bernice White Skelton; his stepson, Hayden Skelton; six brothers; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Ted Schueren.
Pallbearers will be Ray Whitley, Mike Kesler, Mark Cagle, Gary Leathers, Mike Jones and Marty Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Smith, Jack Hamblin Jr., Jake Duncan and the members of his Sunday school class.
Hazel Noe
SMITHVILLE – Hazel Noe, 80, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center as result of injuries received from Smithville tornado.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be prior to funeral service Friday.

Guy Pounds
BALDWYN – Guy Quthon Pounds, 78, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was a small engine repairman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in Pratt Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Don Pounds (Lynn) of Southaven and Ron Pounds of Adamsville, Tenn.; one brother, Charles Pounds (Patricia) of Baldywn; and four grandchildren, Wes Pounds (Robyn), Katie Pounds, Clay Pounds and Clark Pounds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Lucille Cummings Pounds; one brother, Gene Pounds; one sister, Evelyn Harris; and one grandchild, Robert Pounds.
Pallbearers will be members of First Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barry Pardue Sr.
BOONEVILLE – Charles Barry Pardue Sr., 64, died Monday, May 2, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1946, to J.C. Pardue and Jewell Ozbirn Pardue Thornton. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jackie Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Methodist Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by one son, Barry (Mistie) Pardue Jr. of Booneville; one stepson, Ben (Michelle) Adams of Lexington, Tenn.; one sister, Anne Langford of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Charles Dakota Pardue, McKailee Jones, Benji Adams and Jeffry Adams; and one nephew, Chris Ellenberger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice L. Pardue in March 2011; his parents; one brother, Jimmy Pardue; and one nephew, Sean Ellenberger.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lonnie McGregory Jr.
HOUSTON – Lonnie D. McGregory Jr., 75, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Trace Regional Hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at New Prospect M.B. Church with Pastor Tyrone Orr officiating. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Lou Cook
TUPELO – Willie Lou McKinney Cook, 81, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona. A native of the Bissell community, she was the daughter of Turner Patterson McKinney and Mattie Ezell McKinney. She received her eduacation in the Okolona School System. She was a Member of West Grove M.B. Church in Houlka. After moving to the Tupelo area, she united with College Hill C.M.E. Church in Pontotoc. She loved flowers, sewing and especially cooking.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Palmetto C.M.E. Church in the Palmetto community with Rev Ernie Wright officiating. Burial will be in College Hill Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one son, Grady Bean of San Diego, Ca.; two daughters, Vernell (Wayne) Williams of Buffalo, Ny., and Dorothy Bean of Tupelo; one brother, John Ware of East St. Louis, Ill.; one sister, Alice Coleman of Tupelo; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today with a family hour from 6 to 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.

CORINTH – Ernest W. “Bill” Battles Jr., 65, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at McPeters Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Bill Wages officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at McPeters. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

VERONA – Willard Dean Jantz, 65, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Community Hospice after an extended illness.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
