TUPELO – Clarance Stephen “Steve” Farmer, 73, husband of Freda McCarter Farmer and father of Michelle Farmer Caldwell and Dr. Stephen Farmer, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit.
A life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Jackson Street Baptist Church.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors and from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at West Jackson St. Baptist Church.

Larry Bennett
AMORY – Larry Alvin Bennett, 56, died on Friday, May 3, 2013, at his home. He was born April 2, 1957, in Monroe County, to Charlie Bennett and Juanita Dean Huntley. A graduate of Amory High School, he was a construction worker. A caring man, he enjoyed helping others and he cherished his family. He lived for the Lord and was a member of Bigbee Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included hunting, fishing and hunting arrowheads.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Johnny Cherry and Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Burial will be in the Pisgah Cemetery at Wren.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie Harrell Bennett of Amory; father, Charlie Bennett (Joan) of Nettleton; mother, Juanita Huntley of Amory; two daughters, April Bennett of Pearlington and Meghan Harrell of Amory; two sons, Dillon Bennett of Wren and Jeremy Harrell of Amory; and two sisters, Melissa Wood (Duke) of Amory and Teresa Bolton (Ronnie) of Belmont.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vicki Google; by grandparents, R.C. and Ozelle Dean and Hoyle and Rachel Bennett; and stepfather, E.H. Huntley.
Pallbearers will be Jessie Harrell Sr., Steven Holley, Ashley Poss, Will Tallent, Don Moore, Tom Griggs, Dylan Johnson, Ray Morris and Bobby Ray Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be David Randolph, Danny Underwood, Norvelle Howell, Terry Hall and Gary Holt.
Visitation will continue until service time today.

CORINTH – Pauline Mathis died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

Robbie Mathhias
OXFORD – Robbie Ree Daniels Matthias, 83, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her home. Born in Pontotoc County, she was the widow of Charles “Chuck” F. Matthias who preceded her in death just five weeks ago. She was a retired nurse at Graceland Care Center, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 188 in Oxford. She enjoyed many years as a volunteer with RSVP and TRIAD. She was also a member of several Cancer Support Groups and supported the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Dr. David Ard officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by a loving family of nieces and nephews, who served as her caregivers, along with great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alice Duncan
FULTON – Alice Marie Duncan, 82, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at her home. She was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Arkansas, to Ray and Theo Hillard Underwood. She worked more than 25 years at Charm Step until it closed and then worked at McDonald’s until last year when she retired for health reasons. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting and flowers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Wesley Kingsley officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Duncan (Dorothy) and Horace Lee Duncan, both of Fulton; one daughter-in-law, Nita Duncan of Fulton; one brother, Gerene Underwood (Iva) of Bethel Springs, Tenn.; three sisters, Hazel Leffelman (Gordon) of Kingston, Ill., Pat Tate of Hughes, Ark., and Betty Sue Rose of Marion, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Diane Underwood of Rochelle, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Christy Underwood, T.J. Duncan, Dusty Duncan, Robbie Duncan, Sarah Steed, Michelle Wray, Kenneth Hudnall, Kathy Graham, Joyce Krause, Jessica McCoy and April Allred; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Crafton Duncan; one son, Tommy Duncan; a daughter-in-law, Linda Duncan; her parents; three brothers, Bud, Leon and Jimmy Underwood; and two sisters, Lois Mullvain and Vera Christian.
Pallbearers will be Dusty Duncan, Midd Harrison, Cody Smith, Chris Thomas, T. J. Duncan and Jessie Underwood.

Donald Merchant
FULTON – Donald R. “Don” Merchant, 54, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Sept. 9, 1958 to Bobby and Faye Easter Merchant in Vernon, Ala. He was employed with Lane Furniture. He was an avid Auburn Football fan, enjoyed bass fishing, watching television and spending time with family and friends.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Parks and Bro. James Godsey officiating. Burial is at Gilmore Cemetery in Sulligent, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Merchant of Fulton; parents, Bobby and Faye Easter Merchant of Sulligent, Ala.; daughter, Angie (Brad) Thomas of Sulligent, Ala.; son, Chad Merchant of Fulton; daughter, Tiffany Merchant of Fulton; grandsons, Devin Keller, Jesse Keller and Chase Keller, all of Sulligent, Ala.; twin granddaughters, Addison and Madison Merchant; brother, Tommy (Peggy) Merchant of Sulligent, Ala.; brother, Dennis Merchant of Sulligent, Ala.; and sister, Becky (Lynn) Godsey of Sulligent, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Merchant.
Pallbearers are Michael Merchant, Jason Godsey, Michael Parker, J.D. Schmidt, Randy Bell and Jeremy Kell. Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Thorn and Jimmy Tidwell.

Lon Pickins Jr.
RIPLEY – Lonnie Jackson “Lon” Pickens Jr., 89, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. He was born June 30, 1923, to Lonnie Jackson Sr. and Nannie Bell Hamilton Pickens, in Tippah County. He graduated from Ripley High School in 1941. He was a member of Ripley Presbyterian Church for more than 73 years, serving as a deacon and elder with 53 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school. He was a past alderman for the city of Ripley, retired from the Ripley Fire Department with 36 years of service and a charter member and co-founder of Mississippi Antique Car Club, chartered in 1950. He owned and operated Pickens Woodshop for 40 years. Children knew him as “the Two-Dollar Bill Man” because he gave many $2 bills to young children.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a private first class in Company “G” Infantry. He entered service on March 9, 1943, and received training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Camp Pickett, Va. He went overseas Feb. 11, 1944 to New Guinea, East Indies, Phillippines. He was awarded Combat Infantry badge, two battle stars, Phillippine Liberation ribbon, Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal and a WWII Victory Medal. He was discharged Jan. 24, 1946.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ripley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William J. Connolly, the Rev. Jody Hill and Elder Brad Crump officiating. Burial is in Ripley Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his sister, Billie Mae Pickens of Ripley; nephews, Eugene Brown (Rachel) of Ripley, Gerald Brown (Betty) of Ripley and Tommy Brown (Teresa) of Clayton; and special friend, Sandra Wilkins of Ripley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Summerall Pickens; his parents; sister, Loretta Pickens Brown; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Brown.
Pallbearers areTommy Benson, Leland Stokes, Shane Bourg, Justin Mansell, Calvin Fitzhugh, Ben Reaves, Tom Dulaney, Will Long and Ty Long. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Lee Nance, Carlos Langston, members of Mississippi Antique Car Club and members of Fidelis Sunday School Class of the Ripley Presbyterian Church.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7 to noon Tuesday at the funeral home and 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
