BOONEVILLE – Catherin Rowan, 65, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel.
TUPELO – Mitchell Branyan, 89, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at his residence. A native and a lifelong resident of Lee County, he was born March 2, 1920, to Kyle and Lou McCarter Branyan. He graduated from Sherman High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Las Alamos, New Mexico. He was commended by the U.S. War Department for his contributions to the development of the atomic bomb. He worked as a bookkeeper for several local firms, retiring from J.J. Rogers. He was married 63 years to Ruth Brassfield Branyan, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2005. He enjoyed reading and tinkering with his pet projects. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Gayle Alexander and Rev. Rick Ball officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Joyce Branyan, and Frances Blackwell and husband, Ron; his grandson, Joseph W. “Joey” Blackwell; three great-grandchildren, Madison Paige Blackwell, Dylan Wayne Blackwell and Katelann Jade Suddieth, all of Tupelo; his brother, Gerald Branyan of Coldwater.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today at the funeral home.

RED BAY, Ala. – Eddie Wilson Mink, 103, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Burns Nursing Home in Russellville, Ala.

OXFORD – Clara Mae McLarty, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Born in Memphis, Tenn., she worked in the Oxford banking community for 52 years. She was a retired customer service representative for Merchant & Farmers Bank. She was a member of Yellow Leaf Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society, and a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. She loved to play cards on Friday nights, and to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her dog, Sissy.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with Rev. Bryan Bailey and Rev. Jerry East officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette McLarty Wells and husband, Dewey, of Oxford; one son, Johnny Wayne McLarty of Oxford; one sister, Ruby McLarty of Oxford; two half sisters, Linda Levell of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Sharon Waxler of Clermont, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

ABERDEEN – Mary Pearl Vowell Walters, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Community Hospice in Verona. She was born June 8, 1917, to Earl Vowell and Maude Saxon Vowell in McCool. She lived most of her life in Aberdeen, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Aberdeen, the Charm and Chatter Club, the Magnolia Homemakers Club and the Eastern Star.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Rev. George Forbes and Rev. Owen Gordon Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Walters of Aberdeen; three sisters, Ruth Reed of Glen Allen, Margarete Sisson of Paducah, Ky., and Sue Oliver of Louisville; two brothers, Joe Vowell of McCool, and Frederick Vowell of Ackerman; two grandchildren, Chastity Cherubin and CW Walters; one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Carl Walters; and one son, Carl Wayne Walters.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Jewell W. Tomlinson
WEST POINT – Jewell White Oswalt Tomlinson, 58, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She was born May 10, 1951, in Houston to Lottie Jennings White and Leonard White. She was a beautician since 1985, most recently with Image Makers. She was a member of Church of the Living Water, and she had been a member of West End Baptist Church. She married Herman Stephen Tomlinson on Dec. 31, 1980, in Starkville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Bro. Kirk Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Wake Forrest Cemetery at Dancy.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Tomlinson; two daughters, Lori Edwards (Bob) and Subrina Oswalt; one son, Tommy Oswalt, all of West Point; five grandchildren, Lauren Coggins, Holden Coggins, Halie Edwards, Vetta Carpenter and James Edwards, one great-grandson, Kylan Carpenter; two brothers, Lee H. White (Jean) of Folsom, La., and Scotty L. White (Bea) of West Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Walter Bill White.
Pallbearers will be David Young, Dixon Tomlinson, Holden Coggins, Larry Luavell, Craig Keys, Bob Lummus and Sam White.
