HAMILTON – Mary Joyce Davis, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. She was born Feb. 17, 1937, to Woodrow Winders and Mary Cockerham Winders Smith in Hamilton. She was a lifelong resident of Hamilton and a graduate of Hamilton High School. She was a charter member of Hamilton Baptist Church. She retired as cafeteria manager at Hamilton School. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Robert Moore, Bro. Julian Thompson and Bro. Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Harold Lloyd Davis of Hamilton; two daughters, Debbie Pittman of Aberdeen, and Alice McCartney and husband, Rusty, of Hamilton; one son, James Harold Davis and wife, Dawn, of Hamilton; her mother, Mary Winders Smith of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, Tracy Pittman, Cody Pittman, John Ross McCartney, Spencer McCartney, Kevin McCartney, Olivia Davis and Brady Davis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow Winders, and her stepfather, Wade Smith.

PONTOTOC – Annette W. Smith, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at her home in the Longview community. She was born Jan. 11, 1937, to Arthur Westmoreland and Dora Westmoreland of Pontotoc County. She married Wesley Smith on March 17, 1955. She worked as a seamstress at Brookwood Furniture for 36 years before retiring. She was a member of Longview Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and attending the nursery for many years. She was dedicated to other people’s needs and her church. She very much enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Longview Baptist Church with Bro. Tony Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Dora Westmoreland; one daughter, Susan (David) Coomer; three sons, Steve (Yvonne) Smith, Nicky (Sherry) Smith and Ricky Smith, all of Longview; two sisters, Denise (Roger) Smith of Tupelo and Dona (Billy) Grubbs of Longview; two brothers, Dennis Westmoreland (Jill) of Pontotoc and Dwayne (Sherron) Westmoreland of Longview; 10 grandchildren, Wesley (Victoria) Smith, Adam (Candy) Smith, Morgan and Patrick Smith, Erick Coomer and Kendle Coomer, Brandy Whittington, Kelly (David) Hall, Brandi (Jared) Lee and Chad Sewell; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Westmoreland; husband of 45 years, Wesley Smith; and a great-grandson, Spencer Smith.
Pallbearers will be Danny Park, Robert Faulkner, Mike Crane, Balford Patterson, Barry Boyd, Mitchell Pound, Dennis Westmoreland and Dwayne Westmoreland. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and spouses.

SOUTHAVEN – Sallie M. Wildman, 95, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009. She was born July 7, 1914.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Williams; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Spurgeon Blaylock; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston M. Wildman; a daughter, Billie Ruth Geeding; a son and his wife, Johnny and Darlene Wildman; a sister, Annie Lee Blaylock; and a brother and his wife, Charlie B. and Bertha Moore.

MT. PLEASANT – Ralph Thompson, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Germantown Methodist Hospital. He was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Cayce. He was a carpenter and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Nadine Smith Thompson of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Ralph Thompson (Geraldine) of Slayden, Mood Thompson (Dot) of Mt. Pleasant and Jimmie Thompson (Beverly) of Collierville, Tenn.; one daughter, Myra Bailey (Wayne) of Mt. NETTLETON – Johnny Ray Elliott, 57, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Oct. 24, 1952, in Lee County to Clyde and Mary Hester Lee. He lived in Nettleton for most of his life. He was a truck driver for Riverside Trucking Company in Tupelo and a Pentecostal. He enjoyed football, NASCAR, riding his motorcycle, his dog, Blue, and spending time with his grandchildren, who knew him as “Papa Ray.”
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton. The Rev. Horace Barnes, the Rev. Mike Allen and the Rev. Mark Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park in Verona.

GOLDEN – Lura Irene Wingo, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at her residence. She was born April 6, 1922, in Itawamba County to Sim and Lula Castleberry Moore. She was retired from Abbott Laboratories. She and her husband owned and operated J&L Drive Inn.

She is survived by her two daughters, Regina Inmon (Junior) of Golden and Colene Moats (Winston) of Cherokee, Ala.; two sons, James Wade Wingo (Christine) of Port Edwards, Wis., and Robert Terry Wingo of Zion, Ill.; three sisters, Dorothy Cross of Tremont, Louise Jackson of Fulton and Betty Hammond of Marietta; one brother, Dean Moore of Ryans Well; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

WEST POINT – Preston Shurden, 74, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Starkville Manor in Starkville. He was born March 30, 1935, in Bolivar County to Terrell M. Shurden and Bertha Gladys Baker Shurden. He graduated in 1954 from Starkville High School and worked at Bryan Foods from 1954 to 1978. He was owner of Shurden’s One Stop until he retired. He was also an active member of West End Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Bro. Mike Mathena officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at West Point.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sarah Shurden; three sons, David Shurden (Jill) of West Point, Darius Shurden (Gena) of Palisade, Colo., and Chris Spencer (Michelle) of Tar Heel, N.C.; one daughter, Lisa Spencer Clardy (Earl) of West Point; 12 grandchildren, Mitch Shurden, Nathanial Spencer, Nicole Clardy, Mary Margaret Shurden, Kristen Spencer, Austin Clardy, Dessirrie Clardy, Laura Shurden, Zack Shurden, Rebecca Shurden, Carolyn Shurden and Claire Shurden; one sister, Maylene Phillips Kendricks of Starkville; and one brother, Travis Shurden (Lola) of Colorado Springs, Colo.
