Margaret Powell
AMORY – Margaret Marie McNeese Powell, 82, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born on Sept. 11, 1930, in Bogalusa, La., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lillian McNeese.
Mrs. Powell grew up and attended school in California. She married James Floyd Powell on May 8, 1948, and they returned to Smithville in 1959 to raise their family. She was a member of Smithville Baptist Church and retired as a seamstress from Sprint Boats. A very loving, kind hearted and strong lady, she enjoyed reading, traveling with her family, and watching her children play basketball in earlier years. She also loved to watch basketball on T.V.
She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Keeton (Ray), Amory, and Diane Murray (Wade), Smithville.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Parham (Kim), Milan, Tenn., Bradley Parham (Katherine), Amory, Jason Keeton, Amory, Chris Murray (Doreen), Broken Arrow, Okla., Amanda Murray Lay (John Michael), Amory.
She was the proud great-grandmother of Ethan Bickerstaff, Ryan Parham, Ashlee Parham, Allison Parham, Jillian Lay, Turner Murray, Claire Murray, Jenna Kate Murray.
A special friend Sue Faulkner and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Randall Powell; sisters, Hilda Young and Elaine Rogers; brothers, John Walton, Frank and William McNeese.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Parham, Ryan Parham, Bradley Parham, Jason Keeton, Chris Murray, John Michael Lay, Ethan Bickerstaff and Teddy Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Faulkner and Turner Murray.
Memorials may be given to Smithville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 52, Smithville, MS 38870 or to a charity of choice.

Beth Haskell
WATERTOWN, Tenn. – Beth Haskell, 63, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon, Tenn. The Rev. Danny Sellars will officiate.
Survivors include her daughter, Brandy (Terry) Warden; her siblings, Ann Hardison of Pulaski Tenn., Richard (Doreen) Haskell of Milford Conn., Blake (Deb) Haskell of Hull, Mass., Leigh (Brian) Durant of Dickson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tristan Warden, Philip Warden, Aidan Warden, Dakota Warden, Ariel Warden and Trenton Warden; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Haskell; a sister, Claire Haskell; and brothers, Philip R. Haskell Jr. and John Gregory Haskell.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice.

OXFORD – Linda Sue Parks, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Debbie Bethany-Shaw
WEST POINT – Debbie Loraine Bethany-Shaw, 56, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at The Vineyard Court in Columbus. She was born April 25, 1956, in Aberdeen to Ruth Kelly Bethany and Aubrey Bethany. She worked in property management for Southern Investment Management. She was a 1974 graduate of Aberdeen High School and a graduate of Mississippi State University. She was a member of First Christian Church. She married Jack B. Shaw in 1985 in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2001.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Albert Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Drucilla Meggs (Michael) of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jack and Noah Meggs; one sister, Janis Holloway (Harold) of Hamilton; two brothers, Kelly Bethany (Polly) of Amory and Frank Bethany (Sharon) of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, James Bethany, Jack Bethany and R.C. Bethany.
Pallbearers will be Michael Meggs, Tony Holloway, Chris Holloway, Michael Williams, Taylor Chisolm and Mike Meggs.

Luther Bedford
NEW ALBANY – Luther Franklin Bedford, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at his residence. He was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Union County to Oliver Sam Bedford and Clytee Elizabeth McCarty Bedford. He was retired employee of Piper Impact and a member of Wallerville Baptist Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed his favorite hobby of knife trading which he did with some of his many friends. A hard-working and loving father, he was a great blessing to all his family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with the Rev. Horace Thomas and the Rev. Billy Foley officiating. Burial will be in the Wallerville Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Ruth Bedford of New Albany; three daughters, Martha McAllister (Tony) of Louisville, Ky., Peggy Hall (Greg) and Shelia Parker (Rob), both of New Albany; two sons, Randy Bedford (Cathy) and Roger Bedford (Mary), both of New Albany; a brother, Travis Bedford; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Bedford; a grandson, David Bedford; and several in-laws.
Pallbearers will be Ralph McDonald, Joe Dillard, Leon Littlejohn, Mark Bedford and Jimmy Bedford.

Marjorie Featheringill
A memorial service for Marjorie Eloise Featheringill will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Pat Williams officiating. A committal service for her and her husband will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park.
She was born Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1922, in Jay County, one of eight children born to Emery and Bertha Robinson.
She was the wife of the late Merritt “Bud” Featheringill for 68 years. He was in construction and over the years they lived in Indiana, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California and Mississippi.
She was a housewife, baker and professional cake decorator. She managed a restaurant in Indiana and later with her husband opened Marge’s Bakery and Café in Oracle, Ariz. Her family and friends describe her as a loving and gentle mother, grandma and great-grandma who never forgot to send a card to each person on their birthday/anniversary. She was “mom” to many who knew and loved her.
She was an active member in Tupelo with the Tupelo Homemakers Club, Lee County Extension Office and the North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center.
Surviving are son, Richard Featheringill (June) of Tupelo; daughter, Myrna Rohr of Hemet, Calif.; three granddaughters, Suzanne Johnson (Anthony) of Franklin, Tenn., Deborah Schneider (Chris) of Adrian, Mich., and Jennifer Rohr Gillett (Matt) of San Mateo, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Eric and Nickolas Johnson, Alexis DeLong, Tyler Schneider, Jackson Gillett, Nickolas and Brittney Schneider.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association, National Autism Foundation or Cancer Society.

BELMONT – Sandra “Sandy” Hester, 57, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at her residence. She was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Waukegan, Ill. She was the owner of Dixie Gas and a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Golden Central Baptist Church with Bro. Shawn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery at Golden. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are three children, Jackie Underwood (Paul), Jason Mays (Shelia) and Channon Mays, all of Belmont; one brother, Gary Pounders (Annie) of Belmont; two grandchildren, P.J. and Cherokee Underwood; two nephews, Jesse and Dillon Pounders; four aunts, Ruthie Campbell, Ileta Dunn, Bessie Ward and Eula Rhodes; two uncles, Waymon Pounders and Lendon Earnest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Franklin Pounders and Ruby Nell Earnest Pounders.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Pounders, Dillon Pounders, Kim Underwood, Kevin Underwood, Ethan Cruse, Jason Russell and Byron Underwood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Golden Central Baptist Church and from 8 a.m. to service time on Saturday.
Vana Williams
OXFORD – Vana Jane “Bunny” Wiley Williams, 70, daughter of James Oliver and Gladys Dell Oswalt Wiley, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Born Oct. 18, 1942, in Oxford, she graduated from Delta State University where she majored in home economics. She went on to become a teacher. She married Richard L. Williams on Aug. 15, 1965. The family later moved to Minnesota. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. An excellent cook, she loved to prepare meals for her family and entertain. She was a 20-year cancer survivor and an active participant in Relay for Life.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Barksdale officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Lynn Williams of Oxford; children, Richard Lynn Williams Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and Sara Virginia Williams of Linden, Ind.; sister and brother-in-law, Genny (Wiley) and Steve Seeley; and several cousins.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Sarah Lillian Carpenter Christian, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Trinity Missions in Holly Springs. She worked for Holiday Inn and The Natchez Trace for many years. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she would not hesitate to let you know. She loved each and every family member and never criticized anyone or anything.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include her brothers, John Paul Christian (Phyllis) and Roy Carpenter of Holly Springs and Ronnie Carpenter (Diane) of Drummonds, Tenn.; one son, James Eldon Christian (Teresa) of Georgetown, S.C.; one daughter, Sylvia Papp of Lake Worth, Fla.; granddaughters, Angie Christian and Leah Bazuik of Phoeniz, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis Christian; her mother, Clara Lillian Carpenter; her father, Earl Carpenter Sr.; and her brothers, William, Hugh and Earl Carpenter Jr.
