Peggy Wheeler
DERMA – Peggy White Wheeler, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Eupora. She was born Dec. 10, 1935. She was a member of Reedy’s Chapel Baptist Church and retired from manufacturing.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City. Burial will be in Reedy’s Chapel Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Survivors include one son, Barry Lee (Gayla) Johnson; two grandchildren, Matthew W. Johnson and Stephanie L. Green; one great-grandchild, Gabrielle Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Wheeler.

Pearlean Walton
AMORY – Percy Pearlean “Fatty Mama” Walton, 74, died on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born on July 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clint and Verlean Vassar. She was a graduate of M.C.T.S. (now West Amory High School) Class of 1954. She attended Rust College in Holly Springs. She was an outstanding basketball player at Amory and earned a scholarship to Rust College. She was a member of Freewill Gospel Temple, where she served as an usher, and a member of the choir and Mothers Board. While at St. James United Methodist Church, she served as a choir member, usher, Kitchen Committee, United Methodist Women, and on the voter registration committee. Living life to the fullest, she enjoyed cooking for family and friends, school reunion committee, watching T.V. and spending time with her faithful friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Freewill Gospel Temple in Amory with Rev. Willie Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the United Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by her two sons, Anthony “Violet” Walton of Southaven and Gregory “Greg” Walton of Amory; four brothers, Milton (Virginia) Vassar of Louisville, Ky., Willie Swan of Flint, Mich., Frank (Linda) Swan of Amory and Leon (wife) Swan of Chicago; two sisters, Doris (Bennie) Abson of Batesville and Saundra “Ed” Listenbee of Amory; one aunt, Willie Ann Dyett of Amory; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Lee Walton Sr.; one son, Rufus Walton Jr.; one brother, Clinton Leon Vassar; one sister, Lillie Mckinney; two aunts, Cora Mae Spearman and Irene Spearman; and two great-grandparents, Papa Milton Spearman and Emily Spearman.
The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time today.

BYHALIA – Marlean Holloway Smith, 67, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at her home in Byhalia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chulahoma M.B. Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 to 9:55 a.m. Saturday.

Robert Briggs
MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Robert Briggs, 64, formerly of Holly Springs, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at the home of his fiancée in Millington, Tenn.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Concord M.B. Church in Slayden. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Norris M.B. Church in Memphis. The body will lie in state at the church again from 1:30 to 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

Catherine Sea
HOLLY SPRINGS – Catherine Jefferson Sea, 83, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Holly Springs.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church at Red Banks. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 to 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

LAMAR – Sarah Louise Ayers, 48, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery at Ashland.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Earline Jowers
SALTILLO – Earline Jowers, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at her home after an extended illness. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home on Jefferson Street.

Milton Shelby
ASHLAND – Charles Milton Shelby, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford from complications from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born July 24, 1933, in Ashland to Arthur and Hattie Mae Thompson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Benton County. He was retired from Cowin Equipment Co. Inc. in Birmingham, Ala.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ashland with Bro. Brad Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Campbell Shelby of Ashland; two stepdaughters, Janie Hutson and Jean Zorzoli, both of Ashland; two stepsons, Billy Davis of Eads, Tenn., and Bobby Davis of Albertville, Ala.; one sister, Evon Kelley (Charles) of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother, James T. Shelby (Juanette) of Memphis; two sisters-in-law Bernice Shelby and Nellye Pierce, both of Memphis; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Joan Helms; two brothers, Sammy Shelby and Leon Shelby; and two nephews, Tommy Shelby and Kenny Shelby.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Shelby Singleton, Dale Singleton, Bobby Shelby, Bobby Joe Crumpton, Tommy Cook and Jeff Huddleston.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Maddox, Billy Shelby and Buster Samples.
Visitation will be from 7 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, then from noon to service time today at the church.

Mac Shumpert
FULTON – Mac Shumpert died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at his home. He was born on May 5, 1942, in Lee County to J.C. and Charlene Shumpert. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pine Grove M.B. Church in Dorsey.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove M.B. Church at Dorsey with the Rev. Greg Pegues officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery. N.L. Jones & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie J. Shumpert; one daughter, Dianne (Eric) Huddleston; one son, James (Sheena) Shumpert; one daughter-in-law, Veronica Shumpert of Horn Lake; one sister, Maxine (Willie X) Shumpert of Nettleton; seven grandchildren, Shaytiera, Tianna, Quayshurl and Martiez, all of Dorsey, and Q.J., Destynee and Jasmine, all of Horn Lake; three aunts, Melissa Bogart of Shannon, Mary Ivy of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Zemmie Shumpert of Fulton; a special friend and caregiver, Minister Marie Montgomery; five sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; one son, Darryl Shumpert; and one brother, Rev. Otis Shumpert.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Eck & Georgia Shumpert Memorial Chapel at the N.L. Jones Funeral Home in Tupelo. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time.

Troy Cantrell
ABERDEEN – Troy Cantrell, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was born July 9, 1928, to Tom Cantrell and Rose Flippo Cantrell in Greenwood Springs. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a graduate of Greenwood Springs School. He retired from Walker Manufacturing with 37 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Amory. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany for four years. After returning to the states, he served in the National Guard for four years. He was a member of the VFW and served as Surgeon General for nine years. He was a member of the American Legion for 50 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Tommy Moore officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Easter Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Taylor and husband, Allen, and Shelia Allen and husband, Donnie, all of Greenwood Springs; two sons, Troy Cantrell Jr. and wife, Becky, of Hamilton, and Grady Thomas Cantrell and wife, Rhonda, of Greenwood Springs; two sisters, Winona “Runt” Hicks and Tommie Moore, both of Amory; a special sister-in-law, Carol McNeese and husband, Larry, of Smithville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor Lucille Smith Cantrell; one brother, Leroy Cantrell; one sister, Margaret Little; and one grandson, David Cantrell.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

FALKNER – Darrell Wade Jackson, 57, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, in Monroe, Ga. He was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Ripley to Malvin Quitman and Christine Merriman Jackson. He was a truck driver for Furniture Roll Express in New Albany and a member of Falkner Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Falkner Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Little Jackson of Falkner; three daughters, Kelly Jackson of Dumas, Amanda Gladys Wolf (Jeffrey) of Lebanon, Pa., and Kristen Darlene Jackson of Falkner; two sons, Jared James Jackson (Anna) of Ripley and Jonah Wade Jackson of Falkner; his mother, Christine Merriman Jackson of Booneville; one sister, Pamela Jackson of Tupelo; five brothers, Danny Jackson (Evelyn) of Olive Branch, Dwayne Jackson, Douglas Jackson and David Jackson, all of Booneville, Dewey Jackson (Elizabeth) of Rienzi; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Donovan Wolf, Caitlyn, Kelso and Asher Jackson, Garrett Garner, and Thomas and Zoe Wilkerson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Malvin Q. Jackson, and a brother, Donald Jackson.

SOUTHAVEN – Robert Wayne Waldon, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at his home in Southaven. He worked as a security guard at Gold Strike. He was a Baptist.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lamar Grisham officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth C. Waldon of Southaven; three sisters, Carol Akins (Terry) of Ripley, Cathy Wacaser (Sterling) of Pontotoc, and Sue Settle (Raymond) of Blue Mountain; one brother, Ray Waldon (Juanita) of Brownsfield, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie B. Waldon and Ethel L. Pannell Waldon; one brother, Durell Waldon; one niece, Inga Waldon; and one nephew, Josh Akins.

HOULKA – Ellie Fair Hightower, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was a native of Chickasaw County and a faithful member of West Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, cooking and her family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at West Grove M.B. Church in Houlka. The Rev. Clyde Knox will officiate and the Elder Joe Lee Jones will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery in Vardaman. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Walker of Milwaukee, Wis.; one son, Roosevelt (Rosie) Moore of Houlka; 29 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

MCCONDY – Lorene “Wenn” Patterson, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 7, 1925, to Gus Porter and Lillie Watkins Porter. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church, where she was an usher, Sunday School treasurer and a member of the Mothers Board. She loved all preachers and enjoyed feeding them.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Pleasant Plain M.B. Church with the Rev. Jimmy Patterson, the Rev. Ronnie Patterson and the Rev. Mike Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Union Baptist Grove Cemetery. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary L. Harris of West Point, Mary Hampton (Lue Gunn) of McCondy, Irene P. Evans of Houston, Georgia “Joyce” Henderson of Detroit, Mich., and Lois A. Randle (Clisby) of Indianapolis, Ind.; five sons, Lee A. Patterson (Maggie Ruth) abd John “Ike” Patterson (Annie), both of Prairie, Harold “Mack” Patterson of McCondy, Jimmie Lewis Patterson (Sandra) of Detroit and Willie Patterson (Brenda) of Atlanta; one brother, Roger White (Anita) of Ripley; 47 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren.

STARKVILLE – Virginia Bailey Prisock, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at her home in Starkville.
