NEW ALBANY – Betty Joyce Smith McDonald, 69, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at her residence. She was born Sept. 3, 1943, in Sledge to Sam C. Smith and Catherine Pinkston Smith. She was a retired employee at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. She was a member of Palestine Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by four daughters, Melissa Butler (Jerry) of Okolona, Marilyn Morphis (Jimmy) of New Albany, Connie Mathis (Buddy) of Selmer, Tenn., and Bonnie Thweatt (David) of New Albany; three sons, Chris McDonald (Rhonda) of New Albany, Buddy McDonald (Brenda) of Long Beach and Danny McDonald (Rebecca) of Blue Mountain; three sisters, Dovie Evans of New Albany, Amaryllis Self and Patricia Woodburn, all of Vancleave; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh Burns McDonald; two sisters, Rita Seminerio and Maxine Ward; and a brother, Lindsay Smith.
Pallbearers will be Richard Anthony, Ricky Sanford, Christopher Windham, William Lacy Windham, Devin McDonald, Matthew Kelly, Adam Kelly and Tyler Kelly.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ABERDEEN – Rhoda Bush died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church in Brooksville. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
The body will lie in repose at the church from noon to service time today.
HOUSTON – Dorothy “Dot” Gore Alford, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Houston to W.N. “Bud” Gore and Alice Mae Ferguson Gore. She was a retired homemaker and a member of New Hope Church of God.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with the Rev. Greg Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughters, June and Ray Byars of Tupelo, Vickey and Steve Juengling of Daytona Beach, Fla.; her sons, Danny Alford of Houston, Billy and Sissy Alford of Houston, Jimmy and Amy Alford of Houston; her grandchildren, Neil Naron, Sherry Naron, Brent Byars, Chris Byars, Kevin Byars, Claire Wood, Amy O’Brien, Shelly Laios, Danyel Crowley, Jessica Alford, Joseph Alford, Sid Alford, Blake Alford, Caleb Alford, Brooke Alford, Brittany Alford and Jay Michael Alford; and her great-grandchildren, Jonah Naron, Kylie Byars, Jake Byars, Hayden Byars, Olivia Stone, Jacob Sullivan, Aiden Sullivan, Ben O’Brien, Dillon Cates, Madison Alford, Belle Moore, Greyson Moore and Ella Cate Alford. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Modis Alford; and her seven brothers and five sisters.
Pallbearers are Neil Naron, Brent Byars, Joseph Alford, Sid Alford, Blake Alford, Caleb Alford and Jay Michael Alford.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at Houston Funeral Home.

HICKORY FLAT – Darrell Maurice Dickerson, 71, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Hickory Flat to Jesse Alton Dickerson and Eula Mae Reed Dickerson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Methodist. He was disabled.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. The Rev. William Kemp will officiate. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one brother, Sheriff Kenny Dickerson of Holly Springs; one niece, Dianene Fant, and one nephew, Bob Dickerson.
Pallbearers will be members of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and his friends.

RIPLEY – Edgar Etta Leopard Thomas, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 4, 1949, to Charlie Green Leopard and Onie Etta Smith Leopard. She was a member of West Ripley Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Baker and Bro. Randy Latch officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Debra James (David), Melissa Smith (Johnny) and Julie Jeanes, all of Ripley, and Rebecca Simmons (Alfred) of Walnut; two sisters, Josephine Cook and Ruth Sides, both of Ripley; seven grandchildren, Kayla Ward (James), L. J. Smith, Haley Wyatt and Bentley Jeanes, all of Ripley, James, Jonathan and Michael Simmons, all of Walnut; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Owen Ward of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Earl Thomas; five sisters, Marie Short, Martha Leopard, Hattie Barnes, Juanita Leopard and Flora Decanter; and two brothers, Lonnie and Simon Leopard.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Jordan, Jimmy Smith, James Ward, Robert Akins, Joshua Thomas and James Brown. Honorary pallbearer will be Nick Simmons.

HOULKA – Clarence Edward Harrison, 77, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born March 3, 1935, in Chickasaw County to George Edward Harrison and Loyce Warren Harrison. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a retired mechanic and a Baptist. He loved dancing and playing ball.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston. Bro. Fred Hartley and Bro. T.J. Funderburk will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery at Houlka.
Survivors include one sister, Glenda Foster and Jerry of Houston; two nieces, Glenda Rena Harrison Mixon and Bobby Jr. of Houston, and Suzanne Foster Chittom and Allen of Tupelo; and five great-nieces and great-nephews, Zack and Matthew Mixon, Sara Morgan, and Leah and Will Chittom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, James Orville Harrison.

RIPLEY – Gladys Roten Richardson Graves, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Tippah County Nursing Home in Ripley. She was born Sept. 12, 1917, to Andy B. Roten and Minnie Flora Davis Roten. She was a member of Ripley Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.
A graveside service and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Tippah Memorial Garden in Ripley with the Rev. Richie Lockhart and the Rev. Bill Connolly officiating. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Sue Tate (Gene) of New Albany, Pam Hill (Larry) of Falkner and Pat Hopper (Jimmy) of Ripley; one daughter-in-law, Sally Richardson of Winona; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Keener Eason Roten of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lamont D. Richardson; one son, Harold L. Richardson; eight sisters, Elma B. Michael, Flora Vivian Roten, Georgia Duncan McMillan, Vernal Mae Hollowell, Annie Ree Yancey, Murray Moffit, Irene Yancey and Elone Ford; and two brothers, Olin Roten and Pearl Roten.

OKOLONA – Hazel Mardis, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. She was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Marshall County to Henry Carroll and Elsie Mae Joyner. She was a homemaker and a loving mother to her family. She loved people and loved the Lord. She was known for writing poems and sending them and cards to friends and family. She was a member of New Freedom Full Gospel Church.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Dilly and Bro. William Warren Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

OKOLONA – Mary Gibson, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Sept. 29, 1936, to William Fields and Willie Mae Dugger. She was a graduate of Okolona Junior College. She received her B.A. degree from Rust College and her master’s degree from Mississippi State University. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. She loved cooking, eating and talking on the phone to friends.
Services will be at noon today at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Givhan officiating. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilhelmenia Blanchard (Russell) of Okolona; four grandchildren, Kato I. MaGaughy, Russell Blanchard, Rosalyn and Romonia (Jamar) Grimes, all of Okolona; and four great-grandchildren, Demarius, Laken, Qamya and A’aliyah.
