BOONEVILLE – James Richard Chittom, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Booneville. He was a graduate of Wheeler High School. He and his son, Andy, owned and operated an automobile business and auto salvage yard. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent all the time he could with his family and friends. His grandchildren were his greatest treasures.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Lowery and Bro. Mark McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Little Brown Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rhoads Chittom, whom he married on April 2, 1965; a son, Andy Chittom of Booneville; a daughter, Angie Payne of Booneville; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Chittom of Booneville; two brothers, Dwain Chittom of Mundelein, Ill., and Randy Chittom (Judy) of Booneville; and five grandchildren, Carly Chittom, Chase Chittom, Chance Chittom, Bryce Payne and Mayce Payne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Jewel Chittom, and a brother, Hollis Chittom.
Pallbearers are Steve Simpson, Ransel Sparks, Mickey Murphy, Lee Lambert, Scotty Lindsey and Terry Cole. Honorary pallbearers are the employees of Andy’s Auto Salvage.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PLANTERSVILLE – Debra Kaye Westmoreland Walker, 58, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at North Missississippi Medical Center after a one-year illness. She was born in Tupelo on Nov. 17, 1953, to Sam and Joyce McWhorter Westmoreland. She attended Plantersville School, graduated from Tupelo High School in 1971 and attended Mississippi State University. For over 25 years, she was a teacher with the Children’s House Montessori School in Tupelo. She was a lifetime member of Unity Presbyterian Church, where she was the church pianist since a young girl. She had a jovial personality and was devoted to her family and many friends. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed landscaping and maintaining her yard.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Armistead officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Brooks Walker, whom she married Jan. 26, 1972; children, Jeff Walker (Emily) of Tupelo, Jennifer Walker of St. Petersburg, Fla., Evan Walker (Beth) of Brunswick, Ga., and Kyle Walker of Starkville; grandchildren, Morgan and Molly Walker; sisters, Sheri Cason (Buddy) of Midlothian, Va., and Jill Walker (Tommy) of Vicksburg; brothers, Phil Westmoreland (Karen) of Plantersville and Tim Westmoreland (Carol Ann) of Kimberly, Wis.; and stepmother, Norma Westmoreland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Joyce; and her grandparents, Coker and George Westmoreland, and Ben and Hattie McWhorter, who raised her.
Pallbearers will be Mac Reedy, Buddy Cason, Dane Jones, Mike Boyd, Mark Cooper and Matthew McMahon.

VICKSBURG – Maggie Wells Jeanes, 44, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was born Oct. 20, 1968, to Lue Wells of Vicksburg. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church at Falkner. She grew up in the home of Sis. Lazine Jeanes and was loved and accepted by the other children in foster care. She was a loving mother to her two daughters and talked about them often.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church at Falkner with Pastor James Howell officiating. Burial will be in Ruckersville Cemetery at Falkner. Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Victoria Charlene Jeanes of Vicksburg and Vanessa Devon Bell of Walnut; her daughters’ grandmother who raised them, Virginia Jefferson; three siblings, Charles (Latoya) Wells Christmas of Ripley, Randy Wells of California and Mary Ann Wells of Natchez; her foster brothers and sisters; three nieces and two nephews; dear friends, Carolyn Andrews and David Brooks of vicksburg; and her boyfriend, Timothy Johnson of Vicksburg.

ABERDEEN – Frederick Jerome Sykes, 53, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home. He coached a ladies softball team named The Family in Aberdeen. He loved the L.A. Lakers basketball team and watching soap operas.

ABERDEEN – Fannie Mae Clay Sacus, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was a member of Kings Chapel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of Southside Ladies Social Club and a teacher in the old church school.

R. Julian Allen III
OXFORD – R. Julian Allen III, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at University of Arkansas Medical Center. He was born June 23, 1947, in Greenwood to Robert Julian Allen Jr. and Shirley Perry Allen. He attended the University of Mississippi. He became president of Constructor’s Inc. of Fayetteville, Tenn., in 1972 and founder of Allen Corporation in 1976. In 1980, he was co-founder, president and chairman of Delta Pride Catfish. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oxford.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Taylor Moore and the Rev. Penny Sisson officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will follow the graveside service at the cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RIPLEY – Mary Etta Bryant “Big Mom” Ballard, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Tippah County Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1924, to Frank Harmon Bryant and Maude Sappington Bryant. She was an active member of North Ripley Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, WMU director and always helped with Vacation Bible School. She was a strong Christain woman and worked hard to leave a legacy of love and hospitality. She touched many lives through years of baby-sitting and loved each and every child. She will be remembered for her delicious homemade biscuits and other cooking. She was retired from Genesco Shoe Factory.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Lewellen and Bro. Lamar Grisham officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Jones (Albert), Linda Moffitt and Candiece Pannell (Bobby), all of Ripley; two sons, Kenneth Ballard (Ann) of Long Beach and Tim Ballard, (special daughter, Nancy Kennedy) of Ripley; 11 grandchildren, Laurie Kennedy (Doug) of Bonaire, Ga., Chris Jones (Rhonda), Corey Jones, Brandie Gammel (Jeffrey), Willie Pannell (Megan), Casey Jones and Johnathan Ballard, all of Ripley, Kenneth Ballard Jr. of Long Beach, Tiffany Bridges (Teddy) of Birmingham Ridge, Rodney Moffitt Jr. (Cindy) of Blue Springs and Joseph Ballard (Amber) of Olive Branch; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aaron Armour Ballard; one son, Ralph Edwin Ballard; one son-in-law, Rodney Moffitt; three sisters; and eight brothers.

HOULKA – Dewayne Gates, 47, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at his residence in Houlka. The Calhoun County native was the son of Icy V. Gates and the late Silas Gates. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Houston, where he served as a minister of the church. He was transportation supervisor for the Coffeeville City School District in Coffeeville. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served 15 years.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christian Fellowship Church in Houston. Bishop Jimmy Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery in Vardaman. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Gates of Houlka; his mother, Icy V. Gates of Oak Forest, Ill.; two daughters, Takela Gunn of Chicago and Shay Tillman of Bruce; three sons, Malachi Gates of Houlka, Michael Gates of Thomason, Ga., and Kendrick Gunn of Corinth; two sisters, Rachel Parker of Oak Forest, Ill., and Frankie Welch of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four brothers, Kenneth Hughes of Grand Rapids, Mich., Randy Gates of Brunswick, Ga., Marcus Gates of Norwick, Conn., and Calvin Gates of Columbus, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Delilar Tillman of Bruce; and 10 grandchildren.
