James S. “Jimmy” Wofford

SHERMAN – Ricky Hancock, 61, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service.
CORINTH – James William “Jimmy” Northcutt, 93, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Cornerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Jan. 16, 1916, to William Thomas and Mamie C. Hardin Northcutt. He married Geneva L. Miller on Oct. 12, 1940. He worked at Weaver’s Pant Factory for 37 years and later at the coliseum and as manager of Skylark Drive Inn with his wife. An avid fisherman, hunter and gardener, he had a great love of the outdoors. He was a member of Waldron Street Christian Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. Ted Avant and Bro. Tim Dixon officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherra Green; a son, Danny Northcutt (Debbie), a sister, Bill Works; two brothers, W.T. Northcutt (Dot) and Joe Northcutt (Andi); two daughters-in-law, Delores Northcutt Bryant and Rebecca Northcutt; seven grandchildren, Tracy Northcutt (Tammy), Flint Northcutt (Amee), Genny Ginn (Derek), Gil Green, Dee Northcutt (Sara), Jake Northcutt (Jessica), Ginger Wilder (Baxter); nine great-grandchildren; and special friends Rita and Dolan Bugg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters and a son, Jimmy Ralph Northcutt.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and James Chappelle.

William Peter Copple
OXFORD – William Peter Copple, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. A retired computer technician, he was born in Red Lodge, Mont. He served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed gardening, wine making and his pets.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Wes Copple and Ken Wessels officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, William Wes Copple (Karen) of Oxford; his best friend, Ken Wessels of Oxford; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Sarver Copple.
In honor or Mr. Copple’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Navy will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.

Felix Louis Miller
RIDGELAND – Felix Louis Miller, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, after a fall. He was born March 21, 1933, in Quincy, Miss., to Alice and Thomas Miller. He went to high school in Becker and attended Hinds Junior College in Raymond. He served as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class in the Navy. He was a licensed electrician and retired from the Jackson Public Schools. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday morning greeter and a member of the Joy Council.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Miller Strickland (James) of Madison; sons, Terry Miller of Joplin, Mo., Thomas Miller of Crystal Springs; a stepson, Gerald Barron (Sylvia) of Oxford; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ruby Peach, Helen Pace, Mary Ratliff, Gertrude Sanders, Emma Langford; two brothers, Basil Miller and Wayne Miller; and a special friend, Barbara Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Barron Miller.

BRUCE – Paul Winston Ward, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1928, to Aulcy and Lottie Miller. He was formerly a resident of Pontotoc.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Charity Baptist Church in Pontotoc with Bro. Tootie Ward and Bro. Jimmy Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Glasgow Cemetery at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church in Bruce and from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lera Ward; children, Cathy Ward McCoy, Wayne and Dena Ward, Patricia and George Davis, David Earl and Tina Ward, all of Pontotoc, Jimmy and Janie Miller, Billy and Ann Miller, all of Bruce; a special family friend, Charles “Bo” Bryan; 33 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mickey ChrismondWard; second wife, Lavern Rea Ward; sons, Butch Ward and John Ward; sisters, Lorene Ward and Johnnie Tackitt; granddaughters, Brittany Ward, Celia Miller, Tina Dowdy; grandson, Shane Dowdy; stepdaughters, Helen Turner, Laurette Little and her husband, Loyd.

Lawrence Harvey Rogers Sr.
HOOVER, Ala. – Lawrence Harvey Rogers Sr., 88, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. A native of Jackson, Tenn., he was born Dec. 23, 1920. He was a member of Hoover Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from General Electric Company in 1985 after 38 years and he was a Turbine Specialist for Mechanical Dynamics Analysis, retiring at the age of 81.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lindsey Cemetery in Dennis with Bro. Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margie Christine Tuggle Rogers; a son, Lawrence Harvey Rogers Jr. of Pelham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Kristi Rogers-Raley (Steve) Helena, Ala., and Lawrence Harvey Rogers II of Alabaster, Ala.; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Raley, Matthew Raley and Emily Raley.
Eunell L. Longshore
FLORENCE, Ala. – Eunell Lambert Longshore, 70, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. She was born in Prentiss County and graduated from Florence State University. She worked for Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, Tenn., and later for TVA.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with Ken Westmoreland and Don McBrayer officiating. Elkins Funeral Homes is in charge.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, William C. Longshore; daughter, Carol Eckl (Tony); son, Alan Longshore (Kim); four grandchildren, Jack, Dan and Sara Beth Eckl and William A. Longshore; sister, Barbara Cheatham (Joe); brothers, Jack Lambert (Dorothy), Leo Lambert (Annabel); and special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Homer Lambert and Violet Davis Lambert.

PONTOTOC – Dorothy Faye “Dot” Russell Biffle, 78, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Pontotoc. She was a member of Algoma Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening and spending time with her family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 until 9 p.m. today and 9 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her four daughters, Sharon Morris (Lonnie), Cindy Dillard, Christy Ray (Randy) and Carla Seales (Todd); her four sons, Tony Biffle (Rita), Russ Biffle (Diane), Mike Biffle (Nikki) and Scott Biffle (Belinda); her brother: Buddy Russell (Georgia); 13 grandchildren, Chad Edwards, Shane Edwards, Kate Biffle, Amanda Biffle, Dusty Ray, Jesse Ray, Callie Dillard, Tyler Biffle, Hunter Biffle, Lindsey Biffle, Lincoln Biffle, Charly Rae Biffle and Matthew Seale; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Ray, Chase Ray, Olivia Edwards and Trey Michael Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyce Judd Russell and Beatrice Elmira Hadaway Russell; her husband, Carl Rayburn “Ray” Biffle; brother, Bernard Russell; and a grandson, Trey Edwards.

Kennel Aubrey Whitehead
OXFORD – Kennel Aubrey Whitehead, 86 of the Lafayette Springs community died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Pontotoc after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Lafayette County to Jack Whitehead and Stella Jordan. He married Mae Simmons Whitehead March 16, 1962, and worked as a master heavy equipment operator with the MDOT in Oxford where he retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Baldwin-Nowell Chapel with Bro. Ken White officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mae Whitehead of Lafayette Springs community; two daughters, Regina Herring (Richard) of Memphis and Freedia Avent of Oxford; one son, Terry Whitehead (Ann) of Oxford; one foster son, Joe Simmons of Oxford; two sisters, Lorene Whitehead of Oxford and Irene Russell of Saltillo; one brother, Victor Whitehead of Oxford; five grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one granddaughter.

Morris “J.R.” Ferguson Jr.
PONTOTOC – Morris “J.R.” Ferguson Jr., 77, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief illness. He was born April 8, 1932 in Pontotoc County to Morris Albert and Connie Ferguson. He was self-employed and was a former owner of Ferguson Curb Market and an Air Force veteran. He was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. He and his wife, Perla, lived in Southaven for several years where he worked in construction. He loved gardening, camping, fishing and spending time with family and grandchildren. He loved the Gaither Homecoming videos, watching Billy Graham crusades and praying for his family, friends and neighbors.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Hamilton and Bro. Dan Young officiating. Burial will follow in West Heights Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Perla M. Ferguson; daughter, Rita D. Roye, both of Pontotoc; four grandchildren, Lori Harrelson (Chris) of Brentwood, Tenn., Kim Wanasek (Matt) of Thompson Station, Tenn., Noble Roye (Kimberly) and Dave Nicholas Roye, both of Pontotoc; nephew, Rickey Hooker (Phyllis); sister, Faye Ferguson Robbins; two brothers, W.L. “Shorty” Ferguson (Carrie) and Merle Ferguson (Mary Ruth); a sister-in-law, Jean Ferguson, all of Pontotoc; and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Reeder; brother, B.C. Ferguson; two sisters, Mavie Ferguson Hooker and Mavis Ferguson; a son, Nicky D. Ferguson, M.D.; and a granddaughter, Connie Marie Roye.
Honorary pallbearers will be his special nephews.
