Clemmie Perry

HOUSTON – Clemmie James Perry, 72, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Aberdeen. Pastor Danny Gladney will be officiating. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery in Vardaman. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie W. Perry of Houston, one son, Clemmie J. Perry Jr., two daughters, Ella and Tonya Lee of Columbus; one brother, Arthur C. Perry; four sisters, Mary E. Hooper of Grenada, Linda (Homer) Porter of Woodland, Debra and Stella Perry of Okolona; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at funeral home.

Matthew Tucker Jr.

TUPELO – Matthew Tucker Jr., 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home in Tupelo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church from 10 to 10:55 a.m. Saturday.

Jeanette Thornton

WEST POINT – Vera Jeanette Thornton, 82, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home. She was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Pontotoc County to Lillian Sullinger and Clark Dunlap. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and owner of Hearts of Dixie Publishing Company. She sang with the Hearts of Dixie Duet. She was a Sunday school teacher and choir member and a woman of God.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. James Moore and the Rev. Larry Dunlap officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at New Harmony Cemetery in Union County. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Jamie Thornton of West Point; sons, Gene Thornton (Kathy) of Okolona and Eddie Thornton (Claudia) of Saltillo; daughters, Kay Coggins (Theo) of West Point and Diane Moore (Jym) of Orange, Texas; brother, Larry Dunlap (Dottie) of Guntown; sister, Christine Dunlap Adair of New Albany; six grandchildren, Melissa Borgioli (Tom) of West Point, Jamye Morris (Van) of Birmingham, Ala., Kimberly Merrick of Craig, Colo., Kevin Thornton of Iuka, Justin Thornton (Beth) of Starkville and James Moore (Cheryl) of Longview, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Hoyle Dunlap and Roy Dunlap.

Pallbearers will be Rhett Dunlap, Caldwell Dunlap, Van Morris, Justin Thornton, Kevin Thornton and Jym Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Adair, Tom Borgioli, Theo Coggins and staff at Dugan Memorial Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will lie in state from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Jasper Mull

WATERFORD – Jasper Mull, 77, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Methodist Healthcare in Olive Branch. He was born May 20, 1936, in Marshall County to Virgil Mull Jr. and Ida Louise Perkins Mull.

Services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at Greenfield Presbyterian Church in Waterford with the Rev. James Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Mull; two sons, Jasper (Karen) Mull Jr. and Kelvin (Melissa) Mull, both of Memphis; three daughters, Bettie (Andrew) Fuller of Southaven, Velva (Leon) Powell of Waterford and Peggy Mull of Woodbridge, Va.; four brothers, Clarence Mull, J.C. Mull, Jimmy Mull and Roosevelt Hudson, all of Memphis; four sisters, Ida Robinson, Mattie Gilbert, Bernice Denton and Clara Moorehead; 28 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three children; two brothers; and six sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

Bobby Shackelford

VERONA – Bobby Thomas “Pops” Shackelford Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. He was born in Lafayette County on Sept. 22, 1934, to William Henry Shackelford and Zada Kellum Shackelford. He moved to Lee County in the early l950s, graduated from Verona High School and joined the U.S. Air Force, where he honorably served for eight years. He worked for more than 30 years as an assemblyman for Rockwell/ Delta Power Tools. He attended Palmetto Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of the Verona/Palmetto Masonic Lodge, attaining the 32nd Degree in Masonry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing earlier in life, and loved his coin collection and his morning coffee.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 11, in Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Adron Horne officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Loren Shackelford (Bonnie) of Verona and Larry Shackelford of Nederland, Texas; the mother of his children, Emma Jean Ramirez of Port Arthur, Texas; six grandchildren, Ashley Shackelford, Kayla Shackelford, Julia Shackelford, Henton Black, Wesley Black and Jessica Black; one great-grandchild, Juliana Shackelford; two sisters-in-law, Doris Shackelford and Marlene Shackelford, both of Tupelo; and two nieces, Patsy Montgomery and Brenda Estes, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Josephine Shackelford; his biological mother, Zada Kellum Shackelford; his son, Bobby Thomas Shackelford Jr., in 1980; and three siblings, Floyd “Red” Shackelford, James “Red” Shackelford and Frances Shackelford Davis.

Kathryn Wilson

MANTACHIE – Mary Kathryn Wilson , 91, died Wednesday , Oct. 9, 2013, at The Courtyards Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for almost six years. She was born Nov. 19 , 1921, to Robert M. and Lala Mae Cockrell Wilson. She was an active member of Mantachie United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She worked at Mantachie Manufacturing and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, canning and being involved with her church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Howard Pearce officiating. Burial will be in the Mantachie Cemetery.

Survivors include three nephews, Ray N. Wilson of Memphis, Donald L. Wilson of Covington, La., and D. Patrick Wilson of Greenville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Burgess R. Wilson; and her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.

Mary J. Roach

TUPELO – Mary Jeanette “MaMaw” Roach, 77, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at The Meadows Nursing Home in Fulton after a short illness. A native of Neshoba County, she was born Christmas Day in 1935 to Erbin Aaron Parker and Ada Almeta Druwry. She and her young family lived in Canton for 15 years where she worked for Eli Whitney Garment Manufacturing Plant and later for a poultry/egg plant. After moving to Tupelo in 1969, she worked a number of years with Mid South Packers. She served as a nurse’s aide with Tupelo Manor Nursing Home and last worked as a greeter at Walmart on Highway 6.

She and her late husband, Jesse L. Roach, served the Tupelo area in a great way as foster parents. They loved bluegrass music and would often go camping during bluegrass festivals. She was an accomplished quilt maker and loved working crossword and word find puzzles and caring for her flowers. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Wexford Parmer officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include one daughter, Goldie B. Dickey (Ralph) of Saltillo; one son, Jesse Lee “Butch” Roach Jr. (Renee) of Mongomery, Ala.; two sisters, Sarah Holmes (Sidney) of Morton and Joann Parker Seales of Philadelphia; two brothers, Erin Parker (Sylvia) of Barstow, Calif., and Doc Parker of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildern; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; and nine brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Dickey Jr., Parker Roach, Trey Roach, Michael Roach, Chris Parker and George Wilkson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

TREMONT – Thad Wilson, 77, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Darlington Oaks in Verona. He was born Aug. 3, 1936, to Russell William and Elvie Irene Winfield Wilson. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, whittling, horse trading and spending time with his family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 11, at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton with Bro. James Earl Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Agnes Tharp Wilson of Tremont; a daughter, Kim (Larry) Garrett of Red Bay, Ala.; two sons, Eddie Keith (Cindy) Wilson of Franklin, Tenn., and Thad Eugene Wilson of Hamilton, Ala.; two grandsons, Jeremy Wilson of Madison, Ala., and Daniel Wilson of Cullman, Ala.; four granddaughters, Jessie Wilson of Madison, Ala., Amanda Roebuck of Smithville, April (Jeremy) Kennemur of Graysville, Tenn., and Amber (Gary) Kennemur of Gruetli/Laager, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Grady (Mozelle) Wilson of Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers; and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Akers, Mitch Wilson, Tony Wilson and Todd Kemp.

NETTLETON – Leroy Hargett, 76, died Tuesday Oct. 8, 2013, in Nettleton due to a sudden illness. He was born June 7, 1937, to Anzie and Bessie Randolph Hargett in Itawamba County. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton. He was a retired truck driver and a Pentecostal by faith. He enjoyed his horses and spending time with family and friends.

Services will be at noon today, Oct. 11, at Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial in Nettleton with the Rev. John McAllister and the Rev. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Nettleton.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Humble of Nettleton; two stepsons, Frankie and Junior Smith, both of Golden; two grandsons, Derek Strawn of Nettleton and Jamie Smith of Golden; and two sisters, Carolyn Vann of Smithville and Patsy Ryan of Nettleton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Pruitt Hargett; his parents; one brother, A.C. Hargett; and one sister, Clinese Little.

NEW SITE – Darlene Cox, 43, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 9, 1970, to Nash and Mildred Aldridge Cox.
