Mike Cates
GUNTOWN – Michael Houston “Mike” Cates, 60, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. He was born to Delton “Doc” Cates and Orpha Houston Cates on May 26, 1950. He battled ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) for over three years. He was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church.
He was the owner and operator of Mike’s CB & Computers until becoming disabled. His CB handle was Junkman. Prior to that, he owned Haulers Inc. Transporting Used Cars. He hauled for B&M Motors for over 20 years. He was known for his smile and his laugh like the wind.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Victory Baptist Church with Bro. John Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Dianne Cates; his children, David Cates of Verona, Gina Roberts of Mooreville and Bubba Cates of Guntown; his grandchildren, Keshia Roberts, Katie Roberts, Jenifer Roberts, Zack Roberts and Blake Roberts; and his brothers and sisters, Regina Shumaker (Lynn) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Bo Lynk (Ann) of Baldwyn, Mary Hamilton (Ricky) of Pontotoc, Cliff Cates (Lisa) of Guntown and Stephanie Hancher (Terry) of Washington.
He is also survived by his stepmother, Maude Cates of Plantersville; special friends and caregivers, Tom and Shirley Osborne, Matt and Nancy Parker and Rodney and Randy Siddall; a special cousin who was like his sister, Karen Holley Mansky of Prescott, Ariz.; his brothers-in-law, Billy Siddall, Charles Siddall (Joyce), Randy Siddall (Derie) and Rodney Siddall; his sisters-in-law, Sue Leslie (Billy Joe) and Barbara Coggins (Billy); and his mother-in-law, Margaret Siddall of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Teenie Waters Cates; and his grandparents, Octo and Cavie Houston and Dave and Eola Cates.
Pallbearers will be Rodney, Randy, Andrew, Jamie, Brian and Scott Siddall.
Honorary pallbearers will be his CB friends.
The family requests memorial be made to Victory Baptist Church, Muscular Dystrophy Association, the ALS Division.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.
Addell Malone
BYHALIA – Addell Malone, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at her home.

Melanie Hill
WALNUT – Melanie Diane Hill, 28, died Oct. 15, 2010, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born June 11, 1982, in Jackson, Tenn. She attended Mississippi State University and was a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a degree in business and marketing. She was a member of Falkner Presbyterian Church. She was a certified Pedorthist.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Gary Dunaway officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her mother, Joyce Diane Wright Huston (Willis) of Oakland, Tenn.; her father, Michael D. “Butch” Hill (Dianna) of Walnut; one brother, Michael Raymond Hill of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three stepsisters, Kemi Ford (Jon) of Houston, Texas, Kali Buchanan (Buck) of Tupelo; Heather Olivas (Steve) of Nashville; and one stepbrother, Kris Horton (Renee) of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest Young and Irene Reeder Wright and L.D. and Mary Lou Hill.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Price, John Caldwell, Kris Horton, Trave Hopkins, Wesley Hill and Chris Ragan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Wright, Mark Penley, Jerry Hill and Joe Hill.
Visitation will be from 7 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Therisea Austen
WALNUT – Therisea Ann Austen, 54, died Oct. 15, 2010. She was born Aug. 18, 1956, to Mildred Grisham of Iuka and Albert Ashmore. She was a certified nurse’s assistant for home health. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her trusted companion, P.J.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Walnut. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Brandy McBroom (Scott) of Walnut and Cheryl Fausnite (Clint) of Cleveland; two sons, John Fikes (Tiffany) of Cabot, Ark. and Tommy Keenan of Kossuth; her mother, Mildred Grisham (Gerald) of Iuka; one brother, Willie Ashmore (Juana) of Iuka; 11 grandchildren, Greg McBroom of Millington, Tanesha McBroom (Jason) of Oklahoma, Brandon McBroom of Millington, Shevrolet Knight, Summer Knight and Carrigan Knight, all of Cleveland, Tabitha Fikes and Sydney Fikes, both of Cabot, Ark., Tommy Keenan Jr. and Jordan Keenan, both of Memphis and Lane Keenan of Walnut; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Waffles, Storm Buchanon, Chance Buchanon, Junior Barnes, Randy Pentacost and Dewayne Bradshaw.
She was preceded in death by her father.

Dorothy Russell
HICKORY FLAT – Dorothy Williams Russell, 84, died Oct. 15, 2010, in Memphis. She was born on June 12, 1926. She was a member of Cherry Road Baptist Church in Memphis and a nurse (LPN).
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Potts Camp Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Henry (Sharon) Russell of Gautier, Ronald (Susanne) Russell of Hickory Flat and Robert Russell of Gautier; one daughter, Margaret Russell of Memphis; one brother, James Williams of Southaven; two sisters, Jewel Swarner of Greenville and Betty Jean Feorene of Niles, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lottie Snead Williams; her husband, Edward H. Russell; one son, James S. Russell; and one granddaughter, Johnny Russell White.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sena Foster
GRAPEVINE, Texas – Sena Stewart Foster, 70, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in Grapevine. She was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Scooba to Robert and Nell Carley Stewart. She graduated from Aberdeen High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended Mississippi State University. She married Allen Ray Foster on Aug. 31, 1962, in Louisville; he preceded her in death on April 16, 1991.
She resided in Tupelo until 1985, where she was employed as a legal secretary until her retirement. She then moved to Texas to be near her grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family and to many friends of her daughter. She loved her friends, eating out and playing bridge. She attended Compass Christian Church in Colleyville.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo with David Eldridge, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City, Texas and Holland Funeral Directors of Tupelo are in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Jill Foster Wagner of Grapevine; two granddaughters, Haley and Avery Wagner, both of Grapevine; one sister, Iris House of Mobile, Ala.; and one brother, Robert Stewart of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday.

Richard Rauenhorst
CALHOUN CITY – Richard Vernon “Dick” Rauenhorst, 95, died Oct. 15, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Calhoun City. He was a retired butcher-Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash. and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
He was a freemason of Calhoun City Lodge, a former member and Vice-President of the Rotary Club in Calhoun City and a member of Big Buck Hunting Club. He was past President of Brotherhood at First Baptist Church in Calhoun City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Springs Cemetery in Calhoun City. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hill Rauenhorst of Calhoun City; his sons, Rick Lyle Rauenhorst of Rochester, Minn., Joe Hyer of Harrisburg, Va.; his daughters, Mary Louise Smith of Navarre, Fla., Carrie Rook of Fargo, N.D., Connie Nesdahl of Minneapolis, Minn. and Saron Kilborne of Wasille, Alaska.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Dees
CORINTH – Dorothy N. Dees, 94, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in Evansville, Ind. at the home of her grandson. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McPeters Funeral Directors.
Thomas Scott
ETTA – Thomas Scott, 97, died Oct. 16, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. He was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Pontotoc County to Louise Archiebald Scott and Synthia America Jenkins. He was a retired farmer, a WWII Veteran and a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ at Pinedale. He was in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Ruby Roberson Scott.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with Bro. William Gordon and Bro. Chris Moody officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park in New Albany. Glenfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four sons, Thomas Allen Scott (Brenda) of Etta, Danny Scott of Etta, Harold Scott (Melissa) of Ecru and David Scott (Lori) of Beacon Hill; one stepson, Jimmy Maxey (Kathalene) of Enterprise; two daughters, Vara Cane (Lenord) of Arkansas and Betty Lewellen (Alton) of Alabama; one stepdaughter, Marie Gregory of Ecru; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Blanche Robbins
PONTOTOC – Mattie Blanche Robbins, 80, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in Pontotoc. She was born Oct. 25, 1929, to Jim and Mae Robbins. She was an avid animal lover and loved her family and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Shady Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Hartley officiating. Browning Funeral Home of Ecru is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include eight nieces; three nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and James Robbins; and three sisters, Evelyn Miller, Hazel Dowdy and Elaine Gann.
Pallbearers will be Matt Carroll, Robin Reeder, Ricky Morris and Davey Carroll.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

HOUSTON – Junior L. Black, 61, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at his home in Houston. He was born Oct. 24, 1948, in Lafayette County to Verley Isom Black and Annie Laura Cofer Black. He was a retired supervisor for Shannon Chair and Washington Manufacturing Co.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Houston Funeral Home in Houston with Bro. Jim Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie Bannister Tharp and John of Vardaman, Melanie Young and Steve of Houston, Jennifer Shempert and Chad of Tupelo; his sisters, Dorothy Tallent and Harold of Vardaman, Barbara Gunter of Pearl, Verdie Moore of Dorsey, Margie Mann and Jerrel of Houston; his brothers, James Black and Wanda of Houston and Jerry Black of Vardaman; his grandchildren, Chance L. RIPLEY – Tommie Sue Pritchett, 52, died Oct. 15, 2010. She was born May 2, 1958, to Mary Helen Vance Burroughs and Tommy Eugene Burroughs. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Bro. Clay Pritchett of Ripley; one daughter, Toby Thomas (Steven) of Ripley; one son, Zack Pritchett of Ripley; her mother, Mary Helen Burroughs of Ripley; one sister, Jan Rankin of Tupelo; one brother, Tommy Burroughs Jr. (Amanda) of Blue Mountain; one grandchild, Chloe Grace Thomas of Ripley; two nieces, Myleigh Burroughs of Ripley and Morgan Burroughs of Walnut; and two nephews, Chad Rankin (Emily) of Tupelo and Trey Burroughs of Ripley.
