Lynn Smith Carr

SALTILLO – Lynn Smith Carr, 64, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Lee County, she was born Feb. 18, 1949, to Clyde and May Dell Smith Sudduth. She was originally from Mooreville and Skyline until moving to Saltillo in 1992. Lynn was a member of The Church of Christ.

She was a loved wife, mother and “greatest nanny in the world.” She was known to family as the most beautiful, sharing and unselfish person anyone would ever meet. She always made sure everyone else didn’t do without. She put everyone else’s happiness and needs before her own.

Lynn married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. “Bobby” Carr, on Aug. 15, 1964. She always said life is too short so everyone should get along and enjoy life and appreciate what little time everyone has together.

A celebration of her life was held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Leon Wllis officiating.

She is survived by her husband of 49 wonderful years, Robert E. “Bobby” Carr of Saltillo; two daughters, Bobbie Lynn Carr and Jackie Reese, both of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Kayla Watson (Jarrett), Kristin Meeks (Brandon), Chad Armstrong and Lauren Jacobs; five great-grandchildren, Triton Meeks, Lilly Watson, Case Watson, Neely Watson and Ava Gifford; one brother, Jimmy Richman (Terri) of Stantville, Tenn.; one aunt, Rudy Jean Moore; eight uncles, Clint Smith Jr., Wayne Smith, Richard Smith, Cleveland Smith, Billy Smith, Talmadge Smith, Joe Smith and Robert Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her grandparents, Clint and Imogene Smith, and Grady and Pearl Sudduth.

TUPELO – Clara Clark, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Verona.

ARLINGTON, Tenn. – Alvie Hutchens, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Potts Camp Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.

Charles Clausel Jr.

CORINTH – Charles W. Clausel Jr. died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Henderson County Community Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Memorial Funeral Home in Corinth. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. to service time Friday.

B.J. Copeland

TREMONT – Billy Joe “B.J.” Copeland, 56 died in Tremont. He was formerly of Mantachie. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McNeece-Morris Funeral Home.

Josephine Vaughn

OXFORD – Josephine Vaughn, 82, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at her residence in Oxford.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at North Oxford Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OXFORD – Birdie Agnes White, 100, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at Chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the funeral home.

Billy Frazier

MANTACHIE – James Billy Frazier, 80, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice. He was born in Itawamba County on Feb. 8, 1933, to John and Fena Tipton Frazier. He was a lifelong resident of Itawamba County and had lived in Mantachie since the early 1960s. He worked at Super Sagless for many years. He also worked many years with Yardman and was featured in a Daily Journal article as “Johnny Appleseed” of Yardman. A shade tree mechanic, if he couldn’t fix it, he could at least repair it. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but his passion was his grandchildren and the time spent with them.

Survivors include his son, Dicky Frazier (Michelle); his three grandsons, Drake, Jacob and Brayden Frazier; three sisters; two brothers; and best friends, Freddie Durham and Ricky Windham, all of Mantachie.

BURNSVILLE – Mittie Leone Hollis Shea, 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at her home.

Jimmy Avent

OXFORD – James Lee “Jimmy” Avent, 88, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a charter member and a deacon of South Oxford Methodist Church. He was a carpenter with for more than 50 years and retired from the engineering department at North Mississippi Regional Center after 10 years. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great storyteller with extensive knowledge of the history of Lafayette County.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stoney Moorehead officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Avent Becker (Charles) and JoAnne Collins, all of Oxford; two sons, Jim Avent (Cathy) and Mickey Avent (Tonja), all of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Patty Ruth Hensley Avent; three brothers; and one sister.

CORINTH – Robert Murry Mayes Jr., 55, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at his home.

Services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. Luke Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

CORINTH – Marshall Ervin Chase, 51, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at University Methodist Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 17, at Corinthian Funeral Home. Burial will be in Christ Gospel Cemetery.

Patricia Chism

NEW ALBANY – Patricia Ann Chism, 55, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing and spending time on the computer. She was employed at the New Albany Hospital. She was a cosmetologist and a member of Keownville Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 17, at Keownville Baptist Church with Bro. Farron Ash and Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Chism of Keownville; daughter, Christy Simmons (Chris) of Shannon; brother, Steve M. Harper (Rhonda) of New Albany; and grandchildren, Seth Simmons, Sadie Simmons and Shelby Simmons, Bart Tompkins and Crystal Tompkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Beulah Harper; and her grandparents, Cletus and Ophelia Smith.

Pallbearers will be Paul Harrison, Jimmy Perkins, Richard Chism, Jason Yarbrough, Bo Hill and Bart Tompkins. David Yarbrough will be an honorary pallbearer.

Charles Reeves

CORINTH – Charles Robert “Skinny” Reeves, 51, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Corinthian Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fraley Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
