Bobby Taylor

MOOREVILLE – Bobby Taylor, 83, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice. He was born in Lee County on Jan. 12, 1930, to Samuel Lavert “Happy” and Ruby Cole Taylor. A United States Army veteran, he served with the Signal Corp. A successful businessman, in 1956, Bobby co-founded with Ed Dickerson, Rite-Way TV of Tupelo. After Ed’s retirement, Bobby continued to operate Rite-Way with his wife, Betty. In his earlier years, he enjoyed farming, boating and fishing. He was a longtime member, of Mooreville United Methodist Church.

A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Joe Lawson and Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mooreville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Taylor of Mooreville; three children, Lisa Boehms (Henry) of Belden, and John and Sam Taylor, both of Mooreville; five grandchildren, Andrew Peel of Nashville, Tenn., Emily Peel Grace (Michael) of Meridian, John Charles Taylor Jr. of Guntown, and Corey and Madelyn Taylor, both of Mooreville; two sisters, Elizabeth Burk (Terry) of Pontotoc and Carolyn Dickerson (Michael) of the Auburn community; one sister-in-law, Ruth Umfress of Tupelo.

His grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in his honor to the Mooreville United Methodist Church Building Fund.

The family would like to express to the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice staff their deep appreciation and gratitude for the care given to Bobby and the family.

Christie Holmes

TUPELO – Christie Coker Holmes, 39, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born April 6, 1974, to Debbie Hosmer Coker. An avid reader, she loved to read and soak up knowledge; she was the “Cliff Clavin” from “Cheers.”

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at her Mother’s home. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery in Mt. Pillar, Miss., beside her daughter. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter whom she loved dearly, Sullivan Grace Holmes; her mother, Debbie Hosmer Adkins (Henry); four sisters, Kelly Crowley, Julie Stoddard, Rebecca Adkins and Kacy Heal (Timothy); 12 nieces and nephews; one great-aunt, Glenda Clardy.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Savannah Coker; maternal grandmother, Virginia Hosmer; sister, Connie Rickles; and her father, Joseph Adkins.

Anne Horne

PONTOTOC – Modera Anne Wheeler Horne, 80, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Sunshine Health Center in Pontotoc. She was born March 3, 1933, to Cleve and Madie Harbin Wheeler in Woodland. She had lived in Houston before moving to Pontotoc several years ago. She was a Nazarene. She worked in a glove factory and in later years volunteered as a Pink Lady at Trace Regional Hospital, earning a “2000 Hours of Service” pin.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston with Bro. Scott Samuell officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Julia Ann Griffin of Pontotoc; one granddaughter, Samantha Ray of Pontotoc; two grandsons, Robert Voyles of Ecru and Jeffery Seele of Roanoke, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Celina Ray, Summer Ray and Sharon Ray, Lauren Voyles and Hunter Voyles; five brothers, R.C. Wheeler of Houston, Bobby Wheeler of Baldwyn, J.D. Wheeler of May, Texas, Jimmy Dale Wheeler of Texas and David Wheeler of Ethelsville, Ala.; four sisters, Ruby Lowe of Nashville, Tenn., Martha Faye Robertson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Peggy Cole of Sherman and Brenda Phillips of Elberta, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Randle Wheeler and Robert Wayne Wheeler; and one sister Alvis Ray.

BARTON – Jerry Meeks, 72, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs.

John Todd

OXFORD – John Woodson Todd, 82, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his home in Oxford. Born in Thaxton, he had lived in the Oxford area most of his life. When he was young, he had worked in the oil field on the coast. On returning to Oxford, he worked at Avent’s Dairy in maintenance for many years. He retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital as assistant maintenance supervisor after 28 years. He was a deacon at Laodicea Primitive Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and rocking his grandson, who is now a lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with Bro. Steve Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Laodicea Cemetery at Lafayette Springs. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Madge Todd of Oxford; one daughter, Sandra Todd of Oxford; one grandson, Lance Corporal John Brady Todd of Okinawa, Japan; one brother, Billy Dean Todd of Garden City, Mich.; one cousin; and a special friend, Evelyn Russell of Oxford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Zona Todd.

Charlotte Hester

CAROLINA – Charlotte Ann Branham Hester, 65, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at her home. Born Dec. 11, 1947, in Smithville, she was a daughter of Hubert and Modean Franklin Branham. Before her retirement, she worked in the furniture industry and she was a Baptist. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Scott Kitchens officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Hughes (Tony) and Carol Stafford (Gary), both of Nettleton; one son, Travis Hester (Janice Neal) of Nettleton; three sisters, Pat Hudson (Dicky) of Tupelo, Jerri Nash (Jimmy) of Smithville and Sue Nix (J.W.) of Smithville; two brothers, Billy Branham (Marylene) of Smithville and Charlie Branham (Anita) of Amory; nine grandchildren, Danielle Hughes, Ashley Hughes, Kayla Lindsey (Adam), Shawn Stafford, Samantha Stafford, Jessica Hester, Brett Hester, Erica Terry and McKinley Neal; 12 great-grandchildren, Brantley, Joshua Eli, Peyton, Jayda, Tanner, Elizabeth, Patience, Trevor, Anniston, Sereniti, Jaidyn and Marlee; and her mother-in-law, Georgia Hester of Amory.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Mirl Hester; her second husband, Alan Edwards; and her father-in-law, Claxton Hester.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Stafford, Brett Hester, Shawn Denton, Adam Lindsey, Dylan Potmesil and Nathan Hester. Honorary pallbearer will be Ricky Hester.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Patricia K. Martin

RIPLEY – Patricia K. Graves Martin, 68, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Jan. 31, 1945, to Linyard Gray Graves and Earon Childers Graves. She was a member of Bench Hill Church of Christ and a factory worker.

There will be a family memorial service at a later date. Ripley Funeral Home is assisting the family.

She is survived by one sister, Melrose Graves Roberson of Ripley; one brother, John W. Graves (Ruthie) of Columbia, Ill.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Shirley Webster.

James Byrd

RIPLEY – James Larry Byrd, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 11, 1941, to James Leonard and Mamie “Polly” Allen Byrd. He was a pharmacist and owner of Locke’s Drug Store for 30 years. He additionally enjoyed serving the community over the years as state representative, Boy Scout leader, Civitan Club member and American Legion member. He was a member of Lowry United Methodist Church in Ripley. He always felt blessed by the congregation since they took him in as family.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ken Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery in Holly Springs.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy Byrd of forty-four years; one son, Craig Byrd (Anita) of Columbus; one daughter, Claudia Holliday (Blaine) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Amber Beamer, Kara Byrd, Cade Holliday and Laura Holliday; one great-grandchild, Addy Beth Beamer of Columbus; two sisters, Connie Skelton (J.W.) and Sarah Hicks (Bennie), all of Ashland; and one brother, Lowrance Byrd (Virginia) of Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Allen Byrd and Bob Byrd.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Hopper, Rick Lewellen, Ronnie Lindsey, J.C. Allen, Roy Allen, Gary Byrd, Gary Swain, Jeff Skelton, Tom Byrd, Heath Byrd, Todd Allen and Steven Mann.

HICKORY FLAT – Lisa Eugenea Eubanks Lollar, 52, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at her mother’s home in Ripley. She was born Feb. 13, 1961, in Memphis. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Ripley.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Ripley with the Rev. Jason Harms officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, William Gordon Lollar of Hickory Flat; three daughters, Jessica Rucker (Bo) of New Albany, Kimberly Hill of Hickory Flat and Kelsey Petrowski (Austin) of Myrtle; her mother, Alice Faye Haley Harrell of Ripley; one granddaughter, Lakyn Rucker of Myrtle; one brother, Gene Eubanks of Southaven; two stepsisters, Nancy Corzine (Donnie) of Memphis; and Stephanie Burns (Jimmy) of Hernando; and three stepbrothers, Jack Harrell (Kristy) of Arkansas, Bobby Harrell (Patty) and Barry Harrell, both of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Eubanks Sr.; her stepfather, Charlie Harrell; and two brothers, Pete Austien and Louis Eubanks Jr.

Minnie Gates

ABERDEEN – Minnie Mae Gates died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Care Center of Aberdeen. She was born Dec. 1, 1917, to George and Friday Crockerham in Monroe County. She was a member of Johnaon Chapel Holiness Church.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Johnson Chapel Holiness Church in Aberdeen with Elder Melvin Pinson officiating. Burial will be in Beeks Cemetery. Jackson Mortuary of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by one sister, Annie L. Davis of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a special niece, Jessie Smith (Willie) of Aberdeen; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Mortuary. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday.

Odalene Coley

RIPLEY – Mary Odalene Criswell Coley, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at her home. She was born Aug. 29, 1926, to Waymon Randolph and Mary Frances “Fannie” Blythe Criswell in Tippah County. She was a retired teacher for South Tippah School District with 30 years of service. She was a leader in establishing the Tippah County Museum, where she served as board president. She was instrumental in the founding of Tippah County Archives. She received many awards including the 2009 Heart of Tippah County Award. She was a member of North Ripley Baptist Church, where she taught the adult ladies Sunday school class.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at North Ripley Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Lewellen and Dr. Rex Yancey officiating. Burial will be in Criswell Cemetery in Ripley. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Propes (Jim) of Oxford and Anita Decker of Ripley; three brothers, Flavos Criswell (Mary Alice) of Memphis, W.R. Criswell (Linda) of Boynton beach, Fla., and William Criswell of Canton, Ga.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. David Eugene Coley; her parents; one grandson, John Mark Decker Jr.; one brother, Herbert Cleveland Criswell; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Woolsey Criswell.

Pallbearers will be Randy Criswell, Derek Criswell, John Criswell, Ronald Criswell, Johnny Wilbanks and Bobby Franklin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday at the funeral home, and from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at the church.

Buddy Sisco

PONTOTOC – Jessie “Buddy” Sisco, 69, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at his home. He was a logger and a mechanic. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Robison Chapel in Dickson, Tenn. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being outdoors.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Bro. Wayne Cobb will officiate. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include four brothers, Bill Sisco and Frank Sisco of Pontotoc, Roy Sisco of Michigan and Eddie Sisco of Thaxton; four sisters, Willie Lewicki of Michigan, Linda Mulls of South Carolina, Nancy Franks of Pontotoc and Brenda Sisco of Tupelo; five daughters, Rachel Moore of Flowood, Hope Hollis (George) of Randolph, Christina Salas (Elias) of Pontotoc, Bettina McJunkins (Manny) of Oxford and Sissy Kimbrough of Alabama; two sons, Jessie Kimbrough of Alabama and Joey Lovell of Toccopola; 14 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lucille Sisco; a brother, John Sisco; and two sisters, Molly Framak and Francies Whiteside.

LAMAR – Lee Frances Hampton Turner, 55, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be at noon Monday, Oct. 21, at Ashland Church of Christ in Ashland. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose from 11 to 11:55 a.m. Monday at the church.

CORINTH – Virginia Doris “Gincie” Dollahite Bell, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Country Cottage Assisted Living.
