Jessie Floyd

BOONEVILLE – Jessie G. Floyd, 81, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He is the son of the late Curlee Floyd and Mattie Lee Rainer. He was a member of Synagogue M.B. Church. He was a gardener and loved to give his crop to the community. He wasretired from North American Pipe Inc.

Services will at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Synagogue M.B. Church with the Rev. Steven Roberson officiating. Burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Booneville is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Sue Floyd of Booneville; two sisters, Mable Lee Edmond of Rienzi and Ella Mae Holland of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Claudie D. Floyd of Corinth; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Junior Barnett and Curtis Floyd; and one sister, Curley Mae Floyd.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today with the family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. today.

Robert Pegues

OXFORD – Robert Pegues, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at his home in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford.

Mike Speck

SHANNON – Michael D. “Mike” Speck, 52, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1961, in Aurora, Ill., to G.W. Speck Jr. and Itasca Smith Speck Hester. He was a graduate of Myrtle High School and studied music at Mississippi State University. He married Sherri Copeland Grant on Dec. 28, 2006, and worked the past several years as a supervisor in the framing department of VIP Cinema Seating in New Albany, where he was employed at the time of his death. He loved his family, his VIP family and his pet dog, Lucy.

As a teenager he played the guitar and drums with the Victory Life Trio. He was a professional musician, having the gift of playing many musical instruments, singing and song writing. He was back-up, lead guitarist and drummer with David and the Giants, performing with such groups as the Gaithers, Reba McIntyre and many other famous artists while working in Nashville; more recently forming his band, Mike Speck and Southern Thunder, who toured in the 1990s and his most recent band, Alias. He also worked as Lee County Animal Control Officer for several years. He enjoyed WWE Monday night wrestling.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Dan Hester officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Wednesday only. Burial will be private.

Survivors include his wife, Sherri Grant Speck of Shannon; mother, Itasca Hester (Bro. Dan Hester) of Guntown; his children, Michael David Speck II of Blue Mountain; Angel Speck, Devon Garcia, Destiny Crossen, Trea Shelby, Shon Grant and Madison Bogan, all of Shannon, Natosha Lesley of Saltillo and Bobbi Stutsy (Shaun) of Pontotoc; brothers, Jimmy Speck (Sue) and Gary Speck (Charlotte), all of Myrtle; sister, Kathy Hall of Charlestown, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Peggy Roberts and Connie Smithey; and two brothers-in-law, Billy Copeland and Kipper Kyle Copeland.

Honorary pallbearers will be associates of VIP Cinema Seating.

Nancy Hastings

RED BAY, Ala. – Nancy Hallmark Hastings, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Ala. She was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Belmont. She was a very caring person and was very compassionate as a certified nurses aide working in home health for 25 years. She was a member of Red Bay Freewill Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Red Bay Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Lindsay, Bro. Jerry Ginn and Tyler Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 51 years, Don Hastings of Red Bay; five children, Donnie Hastings Jr. (Valarie) of Red Bay, Mark Hastings (Laura) of Oakman, Ala., Joe Hastings (Christy Hellums) of Ridgeland, JoAnna Allred (Scotty) of Tupelo and Samantha Wadsworth (Eric) of Hoover, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Hannah Grace, Alexia, Tyler, Hall, Danielle and Ethan; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus Jesse Hallmark and Eva Moore Hallmark; one brother, Jesse Moore Hallmark (Linda); one sister, Betty Chandler; and a brother-in-law, Bill Chase.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Nelson, Bill Nabers, James Marbutt, Eddie Prestage, Kelly Hester, Carroll Ivy and Scotty Skinner.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay. The body will lie in repose from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Red Bay Freewill Baptist Church.

PONTOTOC – Linda A. Colon Foster, 52, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 2, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Bartlo Garcia Colon and Martha Ann Griffin Colon. She was a member of Black Zion Pentecostal Church. She worked at Franklin Corporation in Houston.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at First Pentecostal Church in Houston with the Rev. Charles Wright, the Rev. Randy Jurdon, the Rev. Greg Daniels and the Rev. Tony Baker officiating. Burial will be at Ellzey Cemetery in Vardaman. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Foster of Pontotoc; one daughter, Candice Michelle Foster of Pontotoc; two sons, Timothy Foster (Ashley) of Nettleton and Jason Foster of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, Madalynn Minica of Nettleton and Rachel Brown of Hamilton; two sisters, Janice Bennett (Matt) of Pontotoc and Lisa Yeatman (Randall) of Woodland; one brother, William Colon of Woodland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rita Foster; and her parents, Bartlo and Martha Colon.

Pallbearers will be Roy Foster Jr., Robbie Foster, Forrest Willis, Jeff Moore, Aundrey Berry, Rodney Clark and Gerald Hamblin. Honorary pallbearers will be all preachers, nieces and nephews.

CORINTH – Thomas McGee, 79, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his home after a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at Patterson Memorial Chapel in Corinth. Interment will be in Corinth National Cemetery.

Willie Tidwell Jr.

NEW ALBANY – Willie Holloway Tidwell Jr., 71, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Lafayette County to Willie Sr. and Hazel Churchill Tidwell. He was retired from Piper and also had worked in the auto racing and body shop business.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Glenfield Memorial Park. Burial will follow. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by one son, Will Tidwell III (Amy) of Oxford; two sisters, Carolyn Gray and Kathy Brewer, both of Oxford; and three grandchildren, Alexandria Tidwell of Boston, Mass., Ethan Tidwell of California and Sarah Beth Tidwell of Oxford.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

FORT HOOD, Texas – David “Sonny” Church, 66, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He was born Feb. 4, 1947, to Luther and Eula Mae Church. He was a member of Tuscumbia Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Tuscumbia Baptist Church with Bro. Lee Dillard and Horace Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Church of Booneville; one son, Scotty (Kristy) Church of Booneville; two grandchildren, Bailey and Kyle Church of Booneville; and four sisters, Billie (Gene) Taylor of Zion, Ill., and Margie Lambert, Mary (Don) Shackelford and Debra (Mike) Lovell, all of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby Church.
