Paul Spuryer

BOONEVILLE – Paul Edward Spuryer, 50, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth. He was born July 21, 1963, to Robert Mitchell and Birdie Hopper Spuryer in Los Angeles, Calif. He worked as a chef at Saloon No. 13 in South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge.

He is survived by two half brothers, Joe Owen Spuryer (Paula) of Memphis and James Murry; a half sister, Barbara Woods; and his former wife, Judy Sailors Spuryer Daod Al-Haidari of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Johnnie Joe Thornton

TUPELO – Johnnie Joe Thornton, 56, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1957, in Tupelo to Joseph Thornton and Ruby L. Hamilton Thornton. He was a member of New Lebanon M.B. Church in Tupelo. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Springhill District Building in Tupelo with the Rev. Billy D. Rainey officiating. The Rev. Elisha Thomas will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Big Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Shunda White, and one son, Jonathan (Latorya) Hunt, both of Tupelo; two brothers, Randy Thornton of Pontotoc and Rickey L. (Parker) Thornton of Nettleton; two sisters, Stephanie Thornton of Pontotoc and Willie Sue Bogan of Shannon; four grandsons, Jasper Hunt, Jonathan Hunt Jr., Jacquess White and Javontay Hunt; three granddaughters, Derrisha Hunt, Josslyn White and Dalaisha Hunt; special nieces, Diesha, Candace and Shumya Thornton; special nephews, Leonard and Christopher Thornton; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby L. Thornton.

OXFORD – Murlean Young, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity-Martin Funeral Home of Oxford.

HORN LAKE – Valerie Anderson White, 48, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. She was born March 26, 1965, in Rockford, Ill., to Sandra K. Anderson and the late Robert Leon Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Acts in New Albany.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Charlie Gainey officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, William White; her mother, Sandra K. Anderson of Horn Lake; two daughters, Kristina Foreman (Larry) of Thaxton and Cassandra Grantham of Senatobia; one son, Bradley Grantham (Amy) of Senatobia; one sister, Sherry Mayhew (Myron) of Athens, Tenn.; one brother, Terry Anderson (Bobbie) of Horn Lake; and six grandchildren, Tyler Foreman, Timothy Foreman, Tana Foreman, Justin Cook, Krysta Cook and Jonathan Grantham.

She was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, John McClarty.

BOONEVILLE – David “Sonny” Church, 66, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He was born Feb. 4, 1947, to Luther and Eula Mae Church. He was a member of Tuscumbia Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at Tuscumbia Baptist Church with Bro. Lee Dillard and Horace Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Church of Booneville; one son, Scotty (Kristy) Church of Booneville; two grandchildren, Bailey and Kyle Church of Booneville; and four sisters, Billie ( Gene) Taylor of Zion, Ill., and Margie Lambert, Mary (Don) Shackelford and Debra (Mike) Lovell, all of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bobby Church.

The body will lie in repose two hours prior to service at the church.

Phillip Starling

CENTERVILLE – Phillip Ray Starling, 57, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at his residence. A Lee County native, he was born July 15, 1956, to Billy Joe and Bonnie Faye Gann Starling. A truck driver, he enjoyed singing and always carried a funny disposition. He loved his family and especially his two dogs, Rock and T-Bone. He attended a Holiness church.

A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Castor Buse officiating. Burial will be in Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, DeLisa Price (Tim) of Mooreville; one son, Brian Starling (Pam) of Oxford; three grandchildren, Logan Bishop and Jace Price of Mooreville and Cohen Starling of Oxford; the mother of his children, Kathy Starling of Mooreville; two brothers, Danny Starling (Janice) of the Centerville community and David Starling of the Carolina community; his mother, Bonnie Faye Starling of the Carolina community; and a special friend and companion, Debbie Ritchey of the Centerville community.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents, Herman and Inez Starling, and Garvin and Effie Gann.

Clinton Ausborn

AMORY – Clinton Hoyle Ausborn, 89, died on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at his home. Born Feb. 3, 1924, in Smithville, he was a son of Wylie R. and Margaret T. Duncan Ausborn. He was retired from True Temper Sports and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A family man, he was also noted as an accomplished musician.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is assisting the family.

Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Camp of Smithville; three sons, Kenneth W. Ausborn of Amory, Roger D. Ausborn of Tupelo and Michael E. Ausborn of Smithville; two grandchildren, Cynthia C. Ausborn and Cory D. Camp; seven great-grandchildren, Austin Camp, Summer Camp, Jr. Camp, Kailen Tate, Kenneth Tate, Alisha Davis and Abrigale Camp; caregiver, Cynthia Cruse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jason Camp.

Dale Stegall

PONTOTOC – Martha Dale Monagan Stegall, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 28, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Dec. 24, 1937, to William Henderson “Red” Monagan and Mildred Blaylock Jones. She graduated from Tupelo High School and retired from the finance business after 40 years. She was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Bro. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Pat Stegall; three sons, Mike Coker, David Coker (Barbara) and Eddie Stegall; daughter, Becky Stegall Niblett (Andy); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her stepfather, George Jones; a sister, Sarah Joe Tackitt; and in-laws, Wade Sr. and Stacia Stegall.

Pallbearers will be Brian Coker, Ronny Coker, Randy Coker, Wiley Jackson, Trai Stegall and Matthew Stegall.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today.

Glen Wigginton

BOONEVILLE – Vera Glen Wigginton, 84, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born July 6, 1929, to Doc and Frances Hutchenson Wigginton. She was a retired factory worker and a Baptist. A foster parent for 15 years, she raised 35 children.

A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at McMillan Funeral Home with Minister Keith Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the New Site Cemetery.

She is survived by two sisters, Charlene (Wythal) Rorie of Memphis and Inez Maness of Booneville; and three brothers, Quitman Wigginton of Booneville, Edward (Betty) Wigginton of Memphis and Lex Wigginton of Battle Creek, Mich.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Quinnie Ridge; and three brothers, Leland, Harold and Roy Wigginton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
