ABERDEEN – Marjorie Murff died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at Community Hospice in Verona.

OXFORD – Ada Elizabeth Alexander, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at her home in Oxford. There are no plans for a memorial service at this time. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Barbara Joan Read, 75, of Holly Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.
There are no plans for a memorial service. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society.
Daisy Owens
OXFORD – Daisy Perkins Owens, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.
Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in North Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-3 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.
Born in Panola County, she was the widow of Linder Owens and a member of North Oxford Baptist Church. She was a waitress at The Beacon.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Owens Klepzig of Abbeville and Patsy Owens Nazario of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Steve Owens of Jonesboro, Ark.; three sisters, Rosemary Beard of Batesville, Katherine Lewellyn of Batesville, and Virginia Thompson of Indiana; four brothers, Jim Perkins of Corinth, Jake Perkins of Atoka, Tenn., Russell Perkins of Memphis and James Perkins of Oxford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions be made to the North Oxford Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1700, Oxford MS 38655.

Gladys Stevens
THAXTON – Gladys Stevens, 93, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at her home.
She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Lafayette County to the late Sam W. Steele and Lula Chesteen Steele. She was a lifelong resident of Pontotoc County. She was a retired factory worker and a wonderful mother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in Union County. Burial will be in Sand Spring Cemetery in Hurricane under the direction of Glenfield Funeral Home of New Albany.
Visitation will be until service time today.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynda Russell (Bobby) of Thaxton; two sisters, Millie Sue Barnette (Jim) of Bartlett, Tenn., and Gracie Bradshaw (Bill) of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Elwood Stevens; three brothers, Johnny Steele, Hannon Steele and Thammon Steele; and two sisters, Mattie Lou Dourough and Joyce Porter.
Woody McCullough
NETTLETON – Woody Daniel McCullough, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. He was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Amory to the late William Dan and Robbie Jane Tomlin McCullough. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He married Ruby N. Shackelford in 1982. Before his retirement he worked for Day Detectives and he was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and cooking.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby McCullough of Nettleton; two sons, Daniel McCullough (Linda) of the Brewer Community and Dennis McCullough of Tupelo; one brother, Jessy McCullough of Amory; one sister, Lois Whitfield (Butch) of Conway, Ark.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one infant brother.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hall, Ricky Harris, David Jenkines, Korie Jenkines, Larry Yeager and Dennis McCullough.
Visitation will be from 5-8 tonight and will continue until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Campground Cemetery near Iuka.

HOLLY SPRINGS – William Odell “Bubba” Wright, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven.
Services will be at noon on Tuesday at Powell Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.
The remains will lie in repose at J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

TUPELO – Clarence. L. “Bill” Sullivan, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 5:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and Tuesday the body will lie in state at Harrisburg Baptist Church one hour prior to services.

Millard L. Swinney
OLIVE BRANCH – The Rev. Millard L. Swinney, 89, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at his home.
A retired Baptist minister and current chaplain for the Olive Branch Police Department, he was a WWII infantryman in the U.S. Army who served in the Aleutian Islands and Europe. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a P.O.W. from December 1944 through May 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and C.I.B. He was also a member and chaplain of the American Ex-P.O.W.s.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Olive Branch. Burial will be in Blocker Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch.
He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Sappington of Olive Branch and Betty Duke (Bill) of Oxford; a sister, Mae Dru Reeves of Selmer, Tenn.; a brother, Maynard Swinney (Sue) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Donnie Sappington (Paula) of Memphis, Will Sappington (Lorena) of Collierville, Tenn., William Duke of Portland, Ore., and Meggie Duke of New York, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Colby, Ellie and Mia Sappington, all of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie V. Swinney.

QUINCY – Walterine Easter Thompson, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

RIPLEY – Lila Furtick, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Ripley.

Chloe Criddle
PONTOTOC – Chloe Marie Criddle, 5 months, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis.
She was born prematurely on March 24, 2009, and died after a long battle with heart and lung problems.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pontotoc Apostolic Church with the Rev. Bennie Randolph, the Rev. Larry Davis and the Rev. Paul Beam officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park in the Garden of Innocence in Verona. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her parents, Quay and Melissa Criddle; her grandparents, Danny and Ramona Warren of Nettleton, Eddie and Tammy Dugan of Pontotoc, and Joey Criddle of Denver, Colo.; her great-grandparents, Frances Warren of Shannon, Annis Holbrook of Holly Springs, Lee and Diane Reynolds of Pontotoc, and Malcolm and Sue Coats of Randolph; her great-great-grandmother, Christine Austin of New Albany; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Caitlin Criddle; her grandfathers, Dennis Warren, James Asa Holbrook and William Oscar Criddle; her grandmother, Eloise Morgan; and two cousins, Tyler Barnes and Timmy Coats.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Barnes and J.J. Williams.
Visitation will be from 5-9 tonight and from 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Pontotoc Apostolic Church.

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Virgil Irby Pittman, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at his residence in Lake Charles, La.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with burial in the Pittman Cemetery in Cadaretta. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday until service time.

CORINTH – Timothy Chad Wallace, 24, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at J.P. Coleman State Park.
