PONTOTOC – Kreston Williams, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Pontotoc to Kirby Lee and Violet Hand Williams. He was a farmer, and a loving father and grandfather. He attended Toxish Baptist Church. He loved his farm animals, especially watching his blue rooster.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Johnny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery.
He leaves behind two daughters, Joyce Bailey (Leland) and Wanda Wells (Dale); three sons, Steve Williams (Pam), Donnie Williams (Cheryl) and Sammy Williams (Tina Ray); one son-in-law, William Irby, all of Pontotoc; six sisters, Jessie Mae Hester, Goldie Hare (Johnny), Hilda Fletcher (Leon), Marcie Jane Smith, Fay Hester (Gerald), Brenda Gayle Pitts (Willie); two brothers, Alton Ray Williams (Charlotte) and John Henry (Shirley); 25 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Ellen Sullivan (James), Linda Irby and Cindy Williams; one grandchild, Prentiss Irby; three great-great-grandchildren, Abby Westmoreland, Triston Lane Morphis and Saylor Nicole Monts; one sister, Virdie Keith (Jessie); three brothers, Leonard Williams, Lester Williams(Dorothy) and Roy Williams; and one brother-in-law, Alvis Hester.
Pallbearers will be Justin Wells, J.R. Monts, Andy Ray Williams, Jamie Sullivan, Jonathan Keith and Nathan Morphis. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Wells and Lesley Irby.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today, and Friday from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m.
OXFORD – Mary Joyce Yarbrough, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at her home. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at Coleman Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery in Paris.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Donna Anita Hill, 55, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at her home after an extended illness. She was born March 28, 1957, in Aberdeen, the daughter of Howard and Jimmie Nell Ausborn Hill. Her mother resides at Floy Dyer Nursing Home in Houston. She was a 1975 graduate of Aberdeen High School. She was employed with Modern Business Systems and O.M.D. in Jefferson City for several years. She was later employed as a Senior Analyst with Ricoh, formerly IKON Office Solutions, working from her home since 1996 until ill health forced her retirement in 2011. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Aberdeen. She enjoyed painting, gardening, reading her Bible and books, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Other survivors include: two sons, Alex Samuel Irvin and Jesse Dale Smith, both of Jefferson City, Mo., and their dads, Victor Irvin of Jefferson City, Mo., and Steve Smith of Aberdeen; two stepsons, Travis Irvin and his fiancée, Amber Lamarch of St. Peters, Mo., and Bryce Irvin of St. Peters, Mo.; one granddaughter, Mackenzie Irvin of St. Peters, Mo.; two sisters, Tiawanna Anderson of Ft. Worth, Texas and her daughters, Kelly Rinehart of Ft. Worth and Stacie Malone of Corinth, and Jeanette Mitchell (Mitch) of Hamilton, and their children, April Miller of Aberdeen and Michael and Brittany Mitchell of Hamilton; one brother, Durwood Howard Hill (T. Kay) of Prairieville, La.; and their children, Nathaniel Howard and Amber Hill.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Leona Crosby, Robert Franklin Hill, Colie Agnes Smitherman and Ledrew Roland Ausborn; one niece, Michelle Lee Mitchell; and one nephew-in-law, Kevin Rinehart.
Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, Mo., from 4 until 7 p.m. today with a memorial service at 7 p.m. in Freeman Chapel with Chaplain Bruce Gardner officiating.
Visitation at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen will be from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home with Brother Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Compassus.
THAXTON – Billy J. Short, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. He was born at his family home in Pontotoc County on Dec. 5, 1931.
He was a former member resident of Memphis where he was employed by Bruce Carton Company to produce printed paper goods. In the later 1960s, he moved his family back to the country near Thaxton to fulfill his dream of owning and operating a small farm. As a farmer, he produced various crops, garden produce, cattle, and hay. He was best known in the region for the homemade sorghum molasses and English shepherd dogs he raised and sold for years.
A graveside service to honor his life will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sand Springs Cemetery in the Hurricane community. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Snow Short; two sons, Billy H. Short (Betty)of Ingomar and Bobby J. Short (Pam) of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren, John H. Short (Breck) of Lucedale, Beth Short of New Albany, Sara Short of Jonesboro, Ark., Nathan Short, and Thomas Short, both of Birmingham, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Ryder and Kelby Short of Lucedale; a sister, Christine Moore (Jim) of Collierville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Jimmy Short (Marty) of Walnut and Charles Jack Short (Edith) of Pontotoc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Hoyt Short of Thaxton; one brother, Robert Short of Thaxton; and one sister, Linda Short Hartley of Memphis.
TUPELO – Pauline Weeks, 85 died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lee Memorial Chapel with burial in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Daisy Houston Prather
ECRU – Daisy Houston Prather, 97, died, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at her residence. She was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Holly Springs, the daughter of Will and Florence Hix Houston. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany. Burial will follow in Ingomar Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, James Keith Prather of Ecru; two daughters, Myra Hodges of New Albany and Rita Strange of Blue Springs; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Prather; three daughters, Frances Bing, Louise Perkins and Mae Florence Austin; two brothers, Sam Houston and Marvin Houston; and a sister, Viola Webb.
Pallbearers will be David Dillard Jr., Robin Perkins, Pat Card, Russ Card, Matthew Owens, Jeff Lawson and David Dillard.
Visitation will be 5 until 9 p.m. today.
SMITHVILLE – Jerry Lynn Tiny Brasfield , 60, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a short illness. He was born Feb. 2, 1952, to Bascom and Jettie Gregory Brasfield. He lived in Fulton for many years until moving to Smithville three years ago. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was in the logging business most of his life as a truck driver for Jason Spigner and Bennett Brothers Logging. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jimmy Sartin and Bro. Ferrell Swords officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Eunita Brasfield of Smithville; mother, Jettie Brasfield of Smithville; one daughter, Kristal Ferguson (Rickey) of Tupelo; two sons, Michael Brasfield (Janice) of Smithville and Jimmy Brasfield (Talisha) of Fulton; a sister, Peggy Sanderson of Smithville; a brother, Tommy Brasfield of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Sorayla Brasfield, Sadie Brasfield and Stephen Brasfield.
He was preceded in death by his father.

SALTILLO – Gary Jourdan, 32, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a short illness. A Saltillo native, he was born May 1, 1980, to Jerry and Fannie Mae McClain Jourdan. He was employed as a foreman by Quail Hills Construction Company and also worked for Danny Tutor Landscaping Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing, especially when he could take his daughters with him. He also loved to tinker with electronics and outdoor equipment.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Johnny Cook officiating. Burial will be in Euclatubba Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Skylar McKenzie Jourdan and Lakyn Grace Jourdan, both of Saltillo; his mother, Fannie Mae Jourdan of Saltillo; two sisters, Melissa Owen (Mark) and Penny Jourdan, both of Saltillo; one brother, Wendell Jourdan of Saltillo; and girlfriend and the mother of his daughters, Stephanie Tutor of Saltillo.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one infant son, Gabe Jourdan.
Pallbearers will be Brett Hawkes, Gary Barnett, Clinton Cameron, Mike Cameron, Jammie Butler and Joe McCoy.
Matthew Campbell will serve as honorary pallbearer.

SHANNON – Alberto Feliciano Caban, 59, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born April 7, 1953, in Puerto Rico to Alberto Caban Feliciano and Antono Feliciano Caban. He had lived in Shannon for the past 42 years. He was a former landscaper and a Catholic. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and being with his grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Monday at the Richmond Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Rickey Pierce officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton is in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Parks Caban of Shannon; two sons, Alberto Louis Feliciano Caban of Chicago and Alberto Junior Feliciano Caban (Cafer) of Florida; one daughter, Sara Feliciano (Hector) of Florida; three stepsons, Justin Parks and Adam Pearson (Cara), all of Mooreville; and Daniel Pearson of the home; three sisters; two brothers; and 11 grandchildren.

PONTOTOC – Pontotoc-Leona Davis, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Pontotoc County to Belvie and Willie Brown Mathis. She married the love of her life, Felix Davis on July 13, 1946. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and in-laws very much and she will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11a.m. Friday at Woodland Baptist Church in Pontotoc with Bro. Greg Herndon and Bro. Justin Varnon officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Felix Davis; four daughters, Betty McKnight, Carolyn Crocker (Don), Julie Crouch (Tim) and Brenda Pilkington (Dale); 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Mathis (Betty) and Larry Mathis; three sisters, Inez Payne, Jean McCloud and Joyce Holloway (Bobby); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Danny Davis and Eddie Davis; son-in-law, Herbert Mac McKnight; two great-grandsons, Coby McKnight and Christopher Campopiano; two sisters, Vernie Greenhaw and Earline Mathis; and two brothers, Oneal Mathis (Betty) and Jimmy Mathis.

OKOLONA – Exum Laverne “E.L.” Houk, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Shearer-Richardson Memorial Nursing Home in Okolona after an extended illness. He was born June 26, 1923, in Clay County to Exum Saul Houk and Lena Mae Barnes Houk, but lived in Chickasaw county most of his life. E.L. worked as a truck driver in the furniture industry most of his working life and attended Zion Church of God in Okolona. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening and fishing.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Claxton Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday only from 9 a.m. to service time.
Survivors include two stepsons, Willie Lewis (Bessie Mae) of Houston, and Charles Lewis of Hatley; two stepdaughters, Nora Masterson (Bud) of Town Creek, Ala., and June Holt (Bobby Pratt) of Pontotoc; a sister-in-law, Nacy Houk of Houston; granddaughter and primary caregiver, Lisa Ball (David Steele) of Shannon; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; eight nephews; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille Bill Franks Houk, who died Nov. 26, 2006; one stepdaughter, Margaret Houk; and four brothers, J.C. Houk, Henry Houk, William F. Houk, and Malcolm L. Houk Sr.

SALTILLO – Nell Glidewell, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at her residence after a short illness. A Saltillo native, she was born July 26, 1930, to Dennis and Pearl Webb Davis. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed working in her garden, her yard and playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church of Union County.

IUKA – Louise Miller Sanderson, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. She was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She loved her Ladies Sunday school Class, and always loved her pastors.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Iuka Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Hatfield and Bro. Gary Watkins. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge.
Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Stella Miller of California, and Aline Sanderson and Ruby Boothe, both of Iuka; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sanderson; her parents, Hughie and Ludie Smith Miller; and three brothers, James Ray, Durell and Eugene Miller.
Pallbearers include Pete Walker, Dewey Nunley, Tommy Jack Ramsey, David Thorne, Earl Walker and Dr. Ben Kitchens.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.
