Milford Rudolph Petit

VERONA – Milford Rudolph Petit, 87, died Friday, September 20, 2013, at his residence in Verona after an extended illness. Rudolph was born in the Carolina Community of Itawamba County on March 12, 1926, to the late Jessie Daniel (J.D.) Petit and Vera Bethay Petit. He grew up in Carolina, graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps proudly serving in Guam, the Philippines and at Iwo Jima during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from military service, he returned stateside and married his sweetheart of over 64 years, Rebecca McDaniel, on Aug. 13, 1948. Rudolph spent his working career as a tool and die maker first at Rockwell Mfg. and retiring as Supervisor at Tecumseh Mfg. He was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he faithfully served in many capacities. He was a strong supporter of public education having served many years on the Board of Trustees of the Verona Schools. His hobbies included multiple outdoor activities: fishing, hunting, and water sports, including skiing, but his great love was participating in all sporting and school activities of his children and grandchildren.

A service celebrating his life will be at 6:30 PM Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Frank Davis officiating. A private family burial will be Tuesday in the Petit Family Plot at Verona City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 Monday only at the Tupelo Chapel.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Petit Prince and his son, Marty Petit and wife, Mimi all of Verona; his grandchildren, Mack Petit and wife, Nina, stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., Jacob Prince of Tupelo, Ashley Prince of Atlanta, Maggie Petit of Starkville and Ryan Petit (deceased as of Nov. 19, 2010); his siblings, Guy Petit and Patsy Petit of the Carolina Community and Reid Petit (Emma Frances) of the Dorsey Community; special friends, Verna Copeland and Kathryn Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Wayne Petit; and grandson, Ryan.

Charles York

ABERDEEN – Charles Allen York, 72, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Fulton to John Allen York and Charlene Harrison York. He retired from Vista after 35 years of service. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with the Rev. Sue McGrew officiating. Burial will be in Durrett Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ann West York; two daughters, Sondra Golsan (Tommy) of Columbus and Ronda Riley (Dee) of Aberdeen; one sister, Patsy Ferguson (Gary) of New Orleans, La.; two brothers, John York of Fulton and James Freeman York of New Orleans, La.; four grandchildren, Hayley Golsan, Will Golsan, Kody Riley and Kori Riley; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Lucille West of Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Allen York; and his father-in-law, Cladie Albert West.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Moon, Sammy Atkins, Donald Dahlem, Tommy Oaks, Glenn Atkins and Roy Hazzle.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

EUPORA – Bonnie Smith Pearson, 77, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Eupora.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in West Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CORINTH – Sarah Elizabeth Ellis Hill, 83, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Magnolia Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Stegall

BANNER – Paul Gene Stegall, 56, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born May 13, 1957, in Bruce. He was previously employed by Borg Warner as a test engineer. He was a graduate of Yalobusha Academy and State Technical College in Memphis with a degree in engineering. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved spending time with his boys.

Services will be 4 p.m. today, Sept. 22, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jay Parks officiating and Bro. Darrell Logan assisting. Burial will follow in Bruce Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by three sons, Joshua Stegall and wife, Renee, Jonathan Stegall and wife, Courtney and Jody Stegall and fiance, Katie, all of Bruce; his mother, Maida Collins Stegall of Bruce; one sister, Dr. Ava Stegall and husband, John Lamberth of Bruce; and three grandchildren, Carsen Stegall, Collyns Stegall and Stabler Stegall.

He was preceded in death by his father, E.P. Stegall; his wife, Tammy Collins Stegall; and a brother, Danny Stegall.

Pallbearers are Don Bryant, Billy Burnham, Jarred Collins, John Hardy, Charles Kelley, Doyle McKnight, Terry Spratlin and Freddie Townsend.

Hoyt Arnold

BALDWYN – Hoyt Vinson Arnold, 74, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Southaven. He attended East Pleaseant Ridge Baptist Church before becoming disabled. He was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. His grandhildren were his life.

Services will be 2 p.m. today, Sept. 22, at Kesler Funeral Home Chapel in Baldwyn with Bro. Rex Bullock officating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens. Kesler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Arnold of Horn Lake and Terry Arnold (Judy) of Olive Branch; four daughters, Cindy Blythe (Terry) of Hernando, Phyliss Perry (Mike) of Como, Connie Pierson (Joe) of Olive Branch and Marla Longmire of Southaven; his mother, Bervill Arnold of Baldwyn; one brother, Larry Arnold of Memphis; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernes Arnold; and two sisters, Barbara Thayer and Linda Cecil.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.

Jim Horton

VINA, Ala. – James R. “Jim” Horton, 73, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born in Alabama to Roy and Lucille Gober Horton. He owned and operated Horton’s BBQ, Horton’s Clothing Store and the Gulf Station for many years. He attended Community Center Baptist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. today, Sept. 22, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Donald Raper and Bro. Rick Murrell officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include three children, Gina Raper (Donald) of Madison, Tony Horton (Lynette) and Tammy Duncan (Byron), both of Red Bay; two stepchildren, Kristie Rhodes (Dennis) of Purvis and Kelly Stewart (Brandon) of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Joseph Raper, Taira Dotson (Robert), Allyssa Horton, Anthony Horton, Mariah Horton, Tyler Duncan and Tiffany Thorne (Heath); four great-grandchildren, Kieli and Autumn Dotson and Jeremiah and Joshua Thorne; one stepgreat-grandchild, Gabriella Montoya; and two brothers, Roy M. Horton and Bob Horton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Durell Horton.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Raper, Anthony Horton, Tyler Duncan, Heath Thorne, Robert Dotson and Brad Ivy.

Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
