Bill Langston

MILTON, Fla. – William Lynn “Bill” Langston, 78, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Tupelo in 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy until he retired in 1975. He was very active in church until he became ill. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with the family, cooking, traveling and playing jokes on people. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his son, Michael Bigby (Laura); daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bigby; daughters, Teresa Fry, Lisa Bunker (Richard), Patricia Hughes (Eddie) and Dawn Harrigill (Paul); 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Merle and Mildred Estelle Langston; his wife, Jewell Isabelle Langston; and a son, William “Bill” Bigby.

Services were Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel in Pensacola, Fla. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Doug Dickey Jr., Paul Harrigill, Eddie Hughes, Richard Bunker, Joseph Billen and Erica Hightower. Delano Dodson was an honorary pallbearer.

Larry Marlow

GRAND SALINE, Texas – Retired U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Larry Ernest Marlow, 65, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after an extended illness. He was born in Douglasville, Ga., on Sept. 11, 1948, to Leroy Marlow and Mary Evelyn McClarty Marlow Criswell. He spent 23 years in service to his country, including service in Vietnam, retiring in 1991 from the U.S. Air Force, where he was in Intelligence Operations many years. He received many commendations for his courage and bravery, including four bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, among others. He worked for Tecumseh Products after retirement and lived in the Palmetto community. In 2002, he returned to Texas to take care of his parents and lived there until his death. He loved the outdoors, fishing, reading (especially Stephen King books), telling jokes and enjoying life to the fullest.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Horton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time on Thursday only at the Tupelo Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Ivy Marlow of Grand Saline, Texas; his son, Christopher W. Marlow of Grand Saline; two sisters, Alana Coburn (Charlie) of Quitman, Texas, and Rhonda Marlow Rigsbee (Jimmy) of Durham, N.C.; a brother, Garry Marlow (Rhonda) of Palmetto, Ga.; his father- in-law, Cecil Ivy Jr. (Anne) of Palmetto; his sisters-in-law, Katina (Bon) Curlee of Guntown, Barbara Hall (Joe) of Palmetto and Christy Ivy (Kevin) of Van, Texas; his brother in-law, Jeff Ivy (Judy) of Palmetto; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Lee Roy Criswell; and his mother-in-law, Joyce Hudson Ivy.

Vaneida Pruitt

PHEBA – Vaneida A. Pruitt, 49, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Hogan Chapel AME Church in Pheba. Burial will be in Pheba Community Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joe Rowland

BOONEVILLE – Joe Ellis Rowland, 63, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 5, 1950, in Prentiss County to Ellis R. Rowland and Katherine Whitlock Rowland. He was a graduate of Booneville High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He was a pipe fitter on oil rigs in Alaska from 1980 until 1992, and operated Joe’s Burger Shop in Booneville from 1993 until his health failed. He enjoyed camping in Alaska with his children, reading, fishing and basketball. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He never met a stranger.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Scott and Jamie Holley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Anita J. Lovell Rowland, whom he married on April 13, 1979; a son, Markus Roy Nunley (Tami) of Booneville; two daughters, Cindy Venita Lowe (Rick) of Junction City, Ore., and Delta Dawn Rector (Earl) of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Devin Pearson of Hemet, Calif., Tori Pearson of Eugene, Ore., Venessa Rector and Tanner Joe Rector, both of Omaha, Neb., Alastar Nunley of Rienzi, Corrie Floyd and Chance Nunley, both of Booneville; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lee Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rusty Gilley; and a sister, Mary Alice Stewart.

Pallbearers are Jeff Gentry, Eddie Holley, Alastar Nunley, Chance Nunley, Lee Stewart, Jason Scroggins and Benji Stewart.

Mae White

PONTOTOC – Lora Mae Kidd White, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at her home after a brief illness. She was born June 14, 1938. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of VFW. She was a very loving person to all she knew. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, her pets, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Brett Jacob White.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Bro. Ronnie Owen will officiate. Burial will follow in Thaxton Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her twin sister, Bena Faye Wood of Lonestar; her brother, Thomas Benjamin Kidd (Annie) of Thaxton; nine children, Betty White Franklin, Martha Maharry (Riley), Earnest Eugene White Jr. (Kathy), Thomas Lee “Skip” White (Mary) Billy Joe White (Rachel), Patricia Faye Cossey (Rusty), Timothy Wayne White (Teresa), James David White (Angela) and Jacky Alan White (Natalie), all of Pontotoc; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Erma Letha Kidd and Ben Kidd; her husband, Earnest Eugene White Sr.; a son, Robert Earl White; and grandchildren, Charles Ray Pickens, Michael Ray Wheeler and Samantha Madison Lynn White.

Pallbearers will be Michael Lee Merritt, Justin Cossey, Steven Cossey, Daniel Cossey, Danny Chesteen Jr. and Kenny White.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Mildred Blythe

BOONEVILLE – Mildred Norwood Blythe, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service of New Albany.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Junior Thompson

NEW ALBANY – Hubert Thompson Jr., 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2013, at his residence. He was born on April 22, 1927, in Union County to Hubert Thompson Sr. and Sarah Pannell Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate in August 1979. He was a Baptist and enjoyed farming, gardening, cows and tractors.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at United Funeral Service in New Albany with Bro. Derrick Finley officiating. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Daisy Thompson of New Albany; three daughters, Judy Hall of Myrtle, Hazel Goudeau of Etta and Lynn Gibson of Myrtle; one son, Danny “Bull” Thompson of New Albany; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Denton and Blanche Sloan; and four brothers, Erskin, Leland, Arthur and Loyce Thompson.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Madison Thompson, Joseph Lee Sturgeon, Rickey Gene Coker Jr., Roy Mell Gibson, Samuel Keith Goudeau and Joey Keith Goudeau.

In honor of Mr. Thompson’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag and the U.S. Navy flag during his visitation and service.

Mae Chandler

VARDAMAN – Mae Chandler, 104, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at her home. She was born June 21, 1909, in Vardaman. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of Vardaman First Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Young’s Chapel Church in Vardaman. Bro. Benny Hill will officiate, and Bro. Gladwin Carpenter will assist. Burial will be in Elzey Cemetery at Vardaman. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Chandler Nichols of Jackson and Shirley Chandler Morgan of Vardaman; one sister, Laudrey Alexander of Vardaman; four grandchildren, Tim Nichols, Trina Nichols (Dwayne) Carruth, David (Regina) Morgan and Keith (Tonya) Morgan; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Durell Chandler; her parents, Tommy Crawford and Flora Ann Dye Crawford; two brothers, Buren Crawford and Alvis Crawford; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Jean Morgan Williams.

Pallbearers will be Billy Alexander, Kenneth Alexander, Larry Alexander, Carroll David Morgan, Keith Morgan and Tim Nichols.

BOONEVILLE – Jimmy Edwin Windham, 80, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born June 21, 1933, to Angie Faye and Leonard Windham. He worked in the shoe business for more than 40 years as a plant manager with Brown Shoe, International Shoe, Dr. Scholls and Wolverine. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. C.D. Edge and Bro. Kevin Yearber officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie Michael Windham; three sons, Ricky (Vickie) Windham, Reggie (Bonnie) Windham and Randy (Christine) Windham; eight grandchildren, Durand (Felicia) Windham, Jimmy Ricky Windham II, Tyler Reed Windham, Angie (Toby) Snapp, Chirstina (Chris) Keeling, Randi (Warren) Gardner, Kim Windham and Schuyler (Kala) Windham; and eight great-grandchildren, Albanie Windham, Allie Windham, Zack Partin, Landon Snapp, Emma Keeling, Luke Keeling, Riley (MacKenzie) Gardner and Campbell (Nichole) Gardner.

Johnnie Stephens

IUKA – Johnnie Akers Stephens, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was a member of Iuka Gospel Chapel. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and taking care of her dog, Lil Bit. She was well known for making the “Scarlett O’Hara dress” used in the Iuka Heritage Day Festival.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Iuka Gospel Church with Bro. James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by one brother, Lloyd McBride (Charlotte) of Iuka; one sister, Joyce Brumley (Donald) of Iuka; a sister-in-law, Grace McBride of Iuka; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William “Tom” Akers and William “Bill” Stephens; her parents, Nander and Effie McBride; her brothers, J.C. McBride (Christine) and Cecil McBride; and her sisters, Rayde Wade (Oren) and Betty Morgan (Tharon).
