Clinton Young

PONTOTOC – Clinton W. Young, 94, passed away suddenly Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. He was born Feb. 6, 1919. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a retiree of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and the Pontotoc City School System, where he was a bus driver for 15 years. He was a member of Hwy. 15 Church of Christ in Pontotoc.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 28, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Ministers Danny Rodgers and Robert Kingsley will officiate. Burial will be in the Hartwell-Tutor Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Willie Belle Anderson Young; a son, Clinton W. Young Jr.; sisters, Clara Campbell of Pensacola, Fla., Joyce McCharen of Tupelo, Kathleen Foster of Pontotoc, Willie Belle Dancer (J.F.) of Houston and Lucille Wilson of Springhill, La.; and brothers, Truman Young (Kathy) and Carl Young (Peggy) of Pontotoc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berry W. and Lois Holley Young; and sisters, Dorthy Washington, Lorene Holley, Lillie Baker and Nelly Young.

Pallbearers will be Davin Young, Derick Young, Micky Baker, Ted Foster and Chris and Scott Anderson.

Visitation will continue from 1 to 2 p.m. today.

Scottie Talley

EUPORA – Scottie “Scooby Doo” Talley, 49, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elsie Blanke

PONTOTOC – Elsie Marie Griffin Blanke, 93, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at her residence. She was the daughter of Marlin and Sue Stanford Griffin. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Blue Mountain College. She married Joseph “Joe” Blanke in 1945, and they made their home in Hattiesburg until his death. In Hattiesburg, they were active members of Temple Baptist Church. She taught school in Richton for two years and worked at Hercules Powder Company as the payroll supervisor for 40 years. After moving to Pontotoc in 1996, she became a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in WMU and missions. She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club, working crossword puzzles and exercising at the Pontotoc Wellness Center. She was passionate in cooking for others and delivering home cooked meals to her friends and family. She was an avid reader and gave a review of Barbara Bush’s book, “A Memoir,” dressed as Barbara for the Pontotoc County Library Luncheon with Books.

A gathering of family and friends will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her three sisters, Clarice Duff, Marlene Michael (Carl) and Wilma Chittom, all of Pontotoc; 10 nephews: Edward Dandridge, Ralph Dandridge, David Henry, Sam Erst Long, Randy Long, George Duff, Dr. Marlin Duff, Al Duff, Walter Chittom and Mike Griffin; six nieces: Susie Marshall, Sharon Long, Ellen Russell, Suzanne Ray, Claire Sullivan and Martha Klair Griffin; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Grace Dandridge, Estelle Henry and Velma Long; one brother: Max Griffin; and two nephews, Sam Henry and Brad Henry.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Stonewall Spencer

WEST POINT – Stonewall Spencer, 80, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at the Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Double Springs Church in Slate Springs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Double Springs Church.

Ruthie Boland

CALHOUN CITY – Ruthie Mae Rogers Boland, 83, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was born April 16, 1930, in Yalobusha County to John Williams Rogers and Sallie Rebecca Fields Rogers. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include a stepson, Carl Bertrand Boland III of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Alene Rogers of Grenada and Doris Rogers of Calhoun City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Boland Jr.; her parents; one sister, Ann Davis Corbin; and six brothers, J.T. Rogers, Holland Rogers, Earl Rogers, J.W. Rogers, Jim Rogers and Gene Rogers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 28, at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City. The Rev. Jimmy Vance will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Big Creek. Pryor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Barry Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Alex Rogers, David Rogers, Billy Rogers and Ronald Harville. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Earl Rogers, Jimmy Davis, Charles “Buddy” Davis and John Davis.

Virgie Daniels

AMORY – Virgie W. Daniels, 76, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Victory Temple Outreach Ministry, where she served on the mother’s board.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Victory Temple Outreach Ministry in Amory. Pastor Larry E. Crump will officiate. Burial will be in United Memorial Cemetery in Amory. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Amory is in charge.

She is survived by two sons, Willie and Larry Daniels of Amory; five daughters, Mary Ann and Alice Daniels of Aberdeen, Annie Mae and Virgie Daniels of Amory, and Shirley McIntosh of Plantersville; two sisters, Annette Wright and Louise Young, both of Aberdeen; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Tracy Davidson

PRAIRIE – Tracy Davidson, 45, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1968, to George Davidson Jr. and Ruenez Marble Davidson.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2013, at Shady Grove Church at McCondy. The Rev. Darrick Whitfield will officiate. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors are his mother, Ruenez Davidson, and his father, George Davidson Jr., of Prairie; a son, Tracy Davidson Jr. of Okolona; and three sisters, Robin Walker (George), Sandra Sykes (Bobby) and Raveen Davidson, all of Prairie.

LaWanda Rausch

PLANTERSVILLE – LaWanda McCormick Rausch, 61, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born on Nov. 9, 1951, in Lee County to Melba and Lavenia Payne Reeves. She was a retired job placement specialist. She was a graduate of Nettleton High School and she attended the University of Auburn. She was a member of Union Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, RVing, hiking and being with her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Clay Anthony and the Rev. Dale Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin “Mike” Rausch of Plantersville; three daughters, Niki Pumphrey and Cindi Baldwyn (fiancé, Mike Mink), all of Plantersville, and Cynthia White of Tupelo; two sons, Alvin M. Rausch II (fiancée, Savannah Spencer) of Tupelo and Lucas J. Rausch (Ashley) of Plantersville; one sister, Pat Challenger of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Alan L. McCormick of Nettleton; 13 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her father, Melba McCormick (Fronie); her mother, Lavenia Reeves (Billy Joe); one sister, Margaret McCormick; and two brothers, James McCormick and Butch Cathcart.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Kris Rausch, Kevin Rausch, Jamie Rausch, Barry Bray and Jon Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Mink and Josh Baldwyn.

Claude Goodwin

BANNER – Claude J. Goodwin, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Banner. He was a timber cutter and a farmer.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Bro. Larry Wicker will officiate, and Bro. Will Turner will assist. Burial will be in Memory Memorial Garden in Bruce.

He is survived by his wife, Clara K. Cain Goodwin of Banner; one daughter, Donna Carol Goodwin of Banner; one son, Bill Goodwin of Banner; one sister, Dottie Marcy of Houston, Texas; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Hawkins of Banner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Goodwin and Vertie Brown Goodwin; sisters, Noble McDivitt and Opal Massey; and brothers, Clyde Goodwin and Delmar Goodwin.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cain, Tony Cain, Randy Cain, Tommy Cain, Jeremy Hillhouse, Junior Hillhouse, Johnny Norwood and Danny Massey.

John Collier

TUPELO – John Warren Collier, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Tupelo to Ernest and Nannie Bell Collier. He was a retired employee of Day-Brite Lighting. He was a devoted husband and father.

Services will be at noon Sunday, Sept. 29, at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Tupelo. The Rev. Will Matthews will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by two children, Charlotte M. Collier and Velinda Gatson (Randal) of Memphis; two grandchildren, Rhylan and Caleb Gatson; one brother, Otis (Overa) Collier of Tupelo; one sister, Ora (Charles) Harley of Beloit, Wis.; eight nephews; seven nieces; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lureze Kirksey Collier, in 2006; one son, John Wesley Collier, in 1979; his parents; one sister; and a twin brother.

Tom Nanney

GUNTOWN – Tom Nanney, 60, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn.

Pearlie Mae Carr

OKOLONA – Pearlie Mae Carr, 75, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 28, at Palestine M.B. Church in Van Vleet. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Carter Funeral Home of Okolona is in charge of arrangements.

Judy Sherman

NESBIT – Judy Sherman, 67, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

D.J. Vail Jr.

SALTILLO – David “D. J.” Vail Jr., 25, died suddenly Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. A California native, he was born Sept. 26, 1988, to David Lorne Vail Sr. and Staci Lyn Olin Vail. He served for five years in the United States Air Force, completing one tour of duty in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Currently he worked as a field technician for Direct TV He loved riding his motorcycle, playing video games, NASCAR and spending time with his family.

Services with military honors will beat 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial will be in Greenbrier Cemetery in Amory.

Survivors include his father, David Vail Sr. of Olive Branch; one brother, Bryan Thomas Vail (Stephanie) of Saltillo; his grandparents, Jimmy and Linda Hurley of Amory; and one niece, Jessie Lyn Vail.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Staci Vail.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

GOLDEN – R.L. Gasaway, 71, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at his residence. He was born May 20, 1942, to Robert and Ray Thornton Gasaway. He enjoyed fishing and having a good time.

Survivors include four sons, Tim (Lisa) Gasaway, Scotty Gasaway, Matthew Gasaway and Austin Gasaway, all of Fairview; granddaughters, Jessica Gasaway of Fairview and Hannah; grandson, T.C.
