Sarah Caldwell

CHESTERVILLE – Sarah Caldwell, 82, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013, at her residence. A Pontotoc native, she was born May 24, 1931, to Melvin and Mary Lucille Bobo Holcomb. She was the widow of Bill Caldwell. A joyful and diligent worker, Sarah spent 29 years working for the Exxon Express in Tupelo. Gardening, cooking and going to yard sales were among some of the hobbies she enjoyed most. She spent many hours playing board games with her sisters, children and grandchildren. A very caring woman, she spent her life taking care of others. Sarah loved her family deeply and cherished time spent with them. She attended Chesterville Calvary Church.

A celebration of life for Sarah will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Wesley Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, James “Hub” Smith (Connie) of the Chesterville Community and Rex Allen Smith (Phyllis) of Gurnee, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mozelle Lea and Fay Burleson (Buddy) both of the Chesterville Community.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three daughters, Angel Smith, JoAnn Adams and Peggy Tennison; her parents; one brother, Buddy Bobo.

Pallbearers will be C.J. and Michael Smith, Benji Boydstun, J.R. Lea, Steve Ennis and David Hall.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013, at the funeral home.

RED BAY, Ala. – R.C. Burgett, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.

Services will be at noon on Monday, Sept. 9, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of arrangements.

James Watts

BALDWYN – James Richard Watts, 66, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, after a long illness. A Pontotoc County native, he was born Aug. 27, 1947, to Bud and Earlene Watts. For more than 40 years, he served as a truck driver. Spending time outdoors, gardening and traveling were some of his favorite hobbies. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and cherished the memories made with them.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Larry Dunaway officiating. Burial will be in Beech Springs Cemetery.

He is survived by his children, Buddy Watts of Saltillo and Kelly Ringgold (Brad) of Baldwyn; three grandchildren, Harley, Hailey and Hannah Rider, all of Guntown; two sisters, Nell Dunaway and Rita Horton (Jackie), both of Saltillo; and his companion and caregiver, Grace Watts of Saltillo.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Linda Watts; one brother, E.J. Watts; one sister, Francis Vess; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Bill Byrd, Adam Dunaway, Anthony Dunaway, Marty Dunaway, Jeff Dunaway, James Green and Roger Brooks.

Wilma Murphree

NEW ALBANY – Wilma Loyce Whisenant Murphree, 78, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 17, 1934, in New Albany to Thurman Elvis Whisenant and Veta Blaine Whisenant. She was a secretary for the Union County Extension Service. She loved handwork and playing cards. She was active in the senior citizens group at Harmony Baptist Church where she was a member.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Pete Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Coleman Becraft (Jim) of Houston, Texas and Judy Wiseman (John) of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren, Ben Coleman, Adam Coleman, Brad Wiseman and Jennifer Wiseman; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vaughn Murphree; a sister, Christine Thomas (Herbert “Spud”); and a brother, Winfred Whisenant (Velma).

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Edward Stanford, Gary Stanford, Allen Stanford, Larry Vaughn Murphree, Elvis Thomas, Billy Wray Thomas, Ronnie Whisenant and and Ed Grisham.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Richard Rollins

ABERDEEN – Richard Dale “Ricky” Rollins, 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at his residence. He was born Aug. 9, 1957, in Aberdeen to Grady Lawrence Rollins and Lorene Springer Rollins. He was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He had worked at Kerr-McGee and was currently in maintenance at the Aberdeen Pioneer Hospital. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Roy McKay officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Lorene Springer Rollins of Aberdeen; one daughter, Erin Reeves of Aberdeen; one brother, Ronnie Rollins and wife, Kay of Saltillo; two grandchildren, Eli and Hank Reeves; one niece, Christy Morgan; two nephews, Matt Rollins and Ridge Rollins; and one sister-in-law, Dawn Rollins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Lawrence Rollins; and one brother, Randy Rollins.

Alvin Gulledge

CALHOUN CITY – Alvin Ray Gulledge, 84, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Calhoun Health Services. He was born July 7, 1929, in Big Creek to Walter Gulledge and Ora Lee Cantrell Gulledge. He was a retired presser for Kellwood Co. and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Services will be 3 p.m. today, Sept. 8, at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Stanley Ray (Diane) Gulledge of Calhoun City; two brothers, James Gulledge of Water Valley and Bobby Gulledge of Calhoun City; three grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell and Kyle Ray Gulledge and Nora; and a very special friend, Carlene Goodson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Belle Butler Gulledge; his parents, Walter and Ora Lee Gulledge; two sisters, Jessie Mae Reedy and Louise Ritchie; and one brother, George Arnold Gulledge.

Pallbearers are Brian Allen, Bill Butler, Mark Callahan, Matt Callahan, Chuck Terry and Taylor Terry.

Honorary pallbearers are Lenon White and R.B. Stewart.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Edith Byrom, 94, formerly of Iuka, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at her residence.
