Barbara Sheffield
TUPELO – Barbara E. Sheffield, 88, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at the Mitchell Center. A native of Germany, she had lived in Lee Acres since 1967. She met her husband, Thomas Sheffield, during his military service. She worked as a nurse’s aid.
There will be no public services. She will be entombed beside her husband in Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.

Paul Peters
GIBSONVILLE, N.C. – Paul Milton “Peter Paul” Peters, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012. He was the loving husband of 18 years to Lois Vickers Peters. When he wasn’t doing small engine repair work, he could always be found camping and fishing as well as putting smiles on children’s faces at Christmas time by being one of Santa’s helpers.
A celebration of his life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Monday in Baldwyn in the Peters family cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; children, Jeff (Terri) Peters, Paul Ray (Lisa) Peters, Kimberly Sbrocchi, Crystal George and Anna Chrapliwy; seven grandchildren; mother, Kathryn Ryan Peters; brothers, Kary Peters and Scotty (Jeanine) Peters; and sisters, Charlene Gilliand, Carolyn Jones and Nancy Farrar.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tulon Peters.
Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home.

CORINTH – Ray N. Thrasher, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

BOONEVILLE – James Darrin Huggins, 39, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his home. No visitation or services are scheduled. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jerry Edlemon
AMORY – Jerry Wayne Edlemon, 64, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at residence, 10082 Prairie Road, Aberdeen, MS 39730.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Bagwell Edlemon of Amory; son, Kerry Wayne Edlemon (Amy) of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Clarabel and Francis of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Judy Edlemon McCarty of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Michael Edlemon of Tupelo and Jackie Edlemon of Tupelo; three nieces; and three nephews.

JACKSON – Donovan Childress, 31, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born Feb. 4, 1981, in Memphis, Tenn. He was employed at Hal’s and Mel’s Restaurant in Jackson.
Service is at 1 p.m. Monday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Randy Hurt officiating. Internment is at Tiplersville Cemetery in Tiplersville.
He is survived by his mother, Rita Hopper Childress of Ripley; one sister, Lauren Childress Boyd (Randle) of Ripley; two nephews, Baily and Tanner; one niece, Sophie; and a special friend, Nicole Luna of Jackson.

Algie Awtrey
HOUSTON – Algie K. Awtrey, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. She was born Dec. 28, 1914, to Homer Dowden and Cynthia Harbin Knox. She was a native of Pontotoc County and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Point. She was active in church, teaching women’s classes and singing in the choir and was well-known for her alto voice.
The service is at 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston with Bro. Towery officiating.
Visitation is at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ethel Holder (Max “Junior”) of Vardaman; one son, Homer Awtrey (Joyce) of Fulton; two sisters, Mildred Brooks of Houston and Louise Henderson of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren, Lisa Williams of Vardaman, Doug Holder of Vardaman, Josh Awtrey of Fulton and Chris Awtrey of Starkville; four great-grandchildren, Dale Williams, Brandy Holder, Brittany Austin and Cayden Snellgrove; and one great-great-grandson, Bryson Holder.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Awtrey; a granddaughter, Paige Snellgrove; four brothers, James Knox, Homer Knox, Eldridge Knox and Winston Knox; and one sister, Gladys Sanders.
Sam Parks
THRASHER – LaFoy “Sam” Parks, 92, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Baldwyn Nursing Facility. She was born Nov. 12, 1919, to Jeff and Dora Green Prentiss. She was a member of Thrasher Baptist Church and retired from Sam’s Dairy Bar where she worked for many years. She was famous for her hamburger steaks and milkshakes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Thrasher Baptist Church with Bro. Doug Rakestraw and Bro. Robert McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens. McMillian Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha Parker of Baldwyn; one son, Carroll (Betty) Parks of Thrasher; one sister, Ruby Davis of Booneville; eight grandchildren, Shane Parks, Dana Christian, Jenny Woodard, John Allen Parker, Angelia Livingston, Brad Parker, Slade Parks and Noki Yates; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Parks; one great-grandson, Rickey Parks; five sisters; six brothers; and one son-in-law, Ray Parker.
Visitation will be until noon today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Grandsons will be pallbearers, and the active and inactive deacons of Thrasher Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.
