OKOLONA – Jeanis “Jan” Sue Goodman, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born April 8, 1947, in Sunflower County. She was retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co., working at several locations including Indianola, Greenwood and Jackson. She was a very hard worker who loved working in her flower garden. She was a caregiver for six years to her mother. She was a member of Okolona First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Eric Boykin officiating.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jimmy Goodman of Okolona; her son, Paul Goodman (Marie) of Sasebo, Japan; three grandchildren, Akira, 12, Ashley, 10, and Aneas, 4; three sisters, Carol Sanders (Jimmy) of Marks, Stella Moore (James) of Tupelo and Fran Wiltshire (Donnie) of Carollton; one brother, Doug Mitchell of Greenwood; four special sisters-in-law, Linda, Sandra, Dolores and Rhonda; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved Aunt Jan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Lois Mitchell; her daughter, Wendy Carol Goodman; and her brother, William “Bo” Mitchell.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Bobby Smithey
MYRTLE – Bobby Ray Smithey, 74, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 15, 1938, in Union County to James Dewey Smithey and Susie B. Covington Smithey. He was retired from Denton Mills. He liked piddling on lawn mowers. He was a member of Moss Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Director.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Charlie Ransier and the Rev. Wayne Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in New Albany.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Smithey of Myrtle; three daughters, Vhonda Robbins of Myrtle, Rhonda Butler (Bobby) of New Albany and Pam Cobb (Ronnie) of Myrtle; two sons, Bobby Smithey Jr. (Angela) of Myrtle and James Carol Smithey (Kathy) of Potts Camp; four sisters, Betty Smithey of New Albany, Jo Ann Diaz of Ripley, Edna Ruth Keith of Ripley and Brenda Browning of Pontotoc; five brothers, Junior Smithey of Myrtle, Bill Smithey of New Albany, Waymon Smithey of Nettleton, Danny Lee Smithey of Byhalia and Mike Smithey of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Foreman; brother, Boyd Smithey; and a son-in-law, Donald Robbins.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Taylor, Brad Cobb, Nathan Cobb, James Smithey, Nicky Merritt and Adam Coker. Honorary pallbearers will be Q.C. Donahue and members of Moss Hill Baptist Church.

EUPORA – Charles Loran Holloway, 73, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.

ABERDEEN – James D. Roebuck, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at his residence in Aberdeen. He was born March 23, 1926, to Daniel Arlanda Roebuck and Mary Lou Grady Roebuck, in Lee County. He had lived in Aberdeen for the past 70 years. He was a retired self-employed truck driver for Roebuck Trucking.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Boyd Roebuck of Aberdeen; six daughters, Linda Walker (Monroe) of McHenry, Patsy Little (Jim) of Hamilton, Ruby Dell Malone of Aberdeen, June Simmons of West Point, Sandra Sanderson (James) of Aberdeen and Katy Ruth Hartman of Amory; one son, James Perry Roebuck (Sharon) of Aberdeen; one sister, Opal Hawkins of Pascagoula; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Crystal Roebuck; one brother, Edward Roebuck; and six sisters, Rama Sheppard, Emma Jean Sieple, Mae Pearl Bristol, Christine Chism, Lorene Guthrie and Louise Easter.
Pallbearers are Dwight Chism, Adam Chism, Anthony Malone, Daniel Roebuck, Drake Porter and Benjamin Colburn.

Jim Johnson
TUPELO – James Ronald “Jim” Johnson, 69, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in Itawamba County, on Aug. 29, 1943, to Fred Johnson and Emma Lou Summerford Johnson. He lived much of his adult life in Memphis, Tenn., and Little Rock, Ark. As a youngster, he enjoyed visiting his grandparents on the coast, where he spent many great summers as a bellboy at the Edgewater Hotel. A graduate of Philadelphia High School and Mississippi State University, He worked many years as a manufacturer’s representative in the commercial filters industry for Franklin Electro-fluid Manufacturing Company. He valiantly served his country as a code enforcement officer in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. An avid Mississippi State and University of Arkansas fan, he possessed a dry sense of humor and spoke very few words but nevertheless contained insurmountable strength. He boasted a “green thumb”and a love of the outdoors, which was evidenced by his love for yard work and gardening “Southern Living style” and bird-watching, especially hummingbirds. He was also an automobile enthusiast.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Interment will be private.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Stanford Riley Johnson of Tupelo, whom he married in Nov. 3, 2008; his sons, Toby Johnson of Temple, Texas, and Jason White (Ashley) of Tupelo; his “adopted” children, Jay Riley (Rebecca) of Rossville, Tenn, Jordan Riley of Tupelo, and Leslie Leonard (Dan) of Franklin, Tenn.; five grandchildren; his extended Stanford family; and his Johnson/Summerford cousins of Itawamba roots.
Visitation is 5 p.m. until service time Monday.

BALDWYN – Neoma Mauveline Short, 92, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Amory. She was born May 16, 1920, to Benjamin Barnett and Julia Mae Yates Wilemon. She was a member of Casey Creek Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and gardening.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her son, Jimmie (Roma Lea) Short of Baldwyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Short; her parents; one sister, Roxie Reed; and three brothers, Earl, Manuel and Robert Wilemon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Dr. Wally Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery.
