Letters to the Editor: July 30, 2014

other_letters_editorAmericans must restore their government again

I am a senior citizen and a Christian conservative. I have voted Republican all my life.

I believe in the Constitution, small government, low taxes, free speech, right to bear arms, national security, legal immigration, state’s rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have heard of the long arm of the law. On June 24 the long arm of the Republican Party bosses aided by many elected officials of the Republican Party reached into their bag of political schemes of which many have been legal but was surely not ethical and altered the outcome of a political party election primary of a U.S. office.

This kind of political action has to stop. We have got to take back our country from those who abuse our Constitution and interpret the law to suit their own benefit.

There will not be another U.S. of A and there will be no George Washington, Abe Lincoln or Ronald Reagan to save this one.

No one man or no one political party can bring us back to where we once were.

There has been a breakdown of our patriotism, our education system. Teaching our children citizenship, patriotism, history, geography and government is no longer a priority. The only way to get us back so our children and grandchildren will have an American dream like we have had is for the silent majority to wake up and pay attention to what we are faced with. We need to demand that our elected officials take responsibility for their office and work for the whole good, not just a chosen few. We do not have a lot of time or a lot of opportunities.

Scott’s column prompts advice to tell it to Jesus

In response to Sonny Scott’s commentary of Sunday July 13.

Not to mention our Christian faith has and will withstand much worse attacks than this.I must simply say with love and prayer: “Do you fear the gath-’ring clouds of sor-row? Tell it to Jesus.

Are you anxious what shall be tomo-row? Tell it to Jesus alone. He is a friend that’s well known!”

Martha Caldwell thusly spoke: “On June 24 the long arm of the Republican Party bosses aided by many
elected officials of the Republican Party reached into their bag of
political schemes of which many have been legal but was surely not
ethical and altered the outcome of a political party election primary of
    a U.S. office.”

Ms Caldwell, since when is appealing for votes from members of a different political party “non-ethical”? People are free to choose who they will vote for. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a person voting for who he believes has his best interest at heart, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in appealing to voters to do just that. In fact, if people didn’t change who they voted for, we’d have pretty much the same outcome every election.

You have been bamboozled and brainwashed by a certain politician who is a sore loser and a liar. He is telling you things that are untrue. Chris McDaniel has no substantial evidence that a significant amount of fraud or illegal voting occurred in the runoff between himself and Thad Cochran. What he is calling illegal is perfectly legal and is one of the basic tactics of political campaigning.

The bigger the lie, the easier it is to believe it. Chris McDaniel’s character has been assassinated, and ironically, he did it to himself. I myself wouldn’t vote for him for county dogcatcher.
