STATE OPINION: Reese goes for gold in Olympic games

By The Sun Herald

Brittney Reese was a junior at Gulfport High School in 2003 when she took her first long jump. She is now on her way to the summer Olympics in London.
While she participated in many sports, track and field events did not interest her until she was challenged to try a long jump by a coach looking for talent. She went on to excel as a member of the Ole Miss track and field team.
But when she finished fifth at the Olympic games in Beijing in 2008, it broke her heart – but not her resolve.
And as the Los Angeles Times reported: “She’s been dominant since, taking gold at the World Outdoor Championships (2009, 2011), World Indoor Championships (2010, 2012), and winning four USA Outdoor Championship titles and two USA Indoor Championship titles.”
Now she wants to bring home from England the gold that eluded her in China.
