Benefield struck a nerve on waste
This is in regard to the letter to the editor written by Jimmy Benefield on and published on June 23, 2013.
I’m in complete agreement with Mr. Benefield.
Our government needs to quit spending our money on such foolish things as a robotic squirrel to see how a rattlesnake would react to its wagging tail for $325K, helping golfers to improve their game scores for $350K, and $939K to see if male fruit flies prefer younger or older female fruit flies ,and there are so many other ways and things the government wastes the people’s money on .
It would be interesting to know who would sponsors and vote on such nonsensical bills.
I would say especially at this time it doesn’t say much for their mentality. We need our National Guard. We need to save the jobs of these 26 Mississippi Air National Guard airmen.

Bible diagnoses; then it prescribes
A growing stream of lies, secrecy, corruption and tyranny from Washington. A growing terrorist threat. Violence in public schools. Courts allowing restrictions of our freedom and rights. The list goes on and on. How are we to make any sense about what is going on in America today?
We can turn to science and the Bible for the answer. Science tells us cold is the absence of heat and we can only define cold in terms of heat. Likewise, dark is the absence of light and dark is defined in terms of light. Turning to the Bible we can define evil as the absence of God. “The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil” Proverbs 19:23. When the Supreme Court used the establishment clause of the Constitution and Jefferson’s “wall of separation” to separate religion from government, we see the results. When God was evicted from our schools He was replaced with zero tolerance policies, security guards and metal detectors. Can anyone doubt that the absence of the One True God in the hearts of terrorists is responsible for their violence?
Not only does the Bible explain the cause of our problems, it provides the solution. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14. Isn’t it about time that the Christian majority in this country start electing Christian men and women as our leaders and demand that our leaders follow biblical principles in their leadership. The Bible gives us instruction for voting if we will just follow it. “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2.
We have no one but ourselves to blame when we elect bad leaders, no one else to blame if we fail to correct those mistakes at the next election and no one else to blame if we fail to make our demands known to our current leadership.
