Lady ‘Dores finish second in Region 1-4A meet
Led by Peyton Hamann and Rachel Starnes, the Lafayette Lady Commodores finished second in the Region 1-4A track meet held this past Saturday at Pontotoc. LHS finished with 124 total points, nine behind Pontotoc’s 133 and second out of nine teams competing in the meet.
The Commodores, meanwhile, finished fifth out of 12 teams Saturday with 55 points. New Albany took first with 93 points. The top for individual finishers in each category advanced to the 4A North Half meet this coming Saturday in Pontotoc.
Hamann won in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 29 seconds. She also took second in the 1,600 with a 5:45. Rachel Starnes finished first in the 3,200 in 12:28. Lafayette won two of the three relays, winning the 4×200 and 4×400.
Janae Westbrook took second in the 400 (1:02). Esmeralda Rodriguez was second to Starnes in the 3,200 with a 12:48. Alisha Hickinbottom finished second in the 300 hurdles (50.63). Brianna Everett took second in the triple jump, while Shaikayla Orr was second in the pole vault with a mark of 7 feet.
Westbrook qualified for the 100 by finishing third (12.77). Orianna Shaw was third in the 400 (1:02.96). Rodriguez took third in the 800 (2:33), while Starnes was third in the 1,600. The 4×100 team also took third place with a 52.2.
Shaikayla Orr finished fourth in the pole vault (7′), while Brianna Everett was fourth in the long jump with a 15-9.
Runners who composed the 4×100 and 4×200 were Westbrook, Evans, Hickinbottom and Shaw. The 4×400 team was made up of Hickinbottom, Shaw, Starnes and Hamann.
D.K. Buford led the Commodores by winning both the 100 (10.87) and 200 (22.22). The 4×100 team finished second with a 43.9. Buford, Eric Lewis, Trey Shaw andRashun Rockett made up that team.
Montreal Nabors advanced by finishing third in the 800 (2:14). Ivan Lopez also finished third in the pole vault (10-0).
Derek White finished fourth in the 400 (52.16). Keunte Booker took fourth in the discus (97-7), while the 4×400 also finished fourth with a 3:44. White, L.D. Marshall, Rockett, and Nabors made up that team.
