‘Dores fall to Corinth in extra innings
Lafayette fell behind early, rallied, and then lost 6-5 in nine innings Friday night in Game 2 of its best-of-three MHSAA Class 4A baseball series with Corinth.
The Commodores, who took an early lead and the held on to beat Corinth in the opener, trailed the Warriors 4-0 after two innings of play. They tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the third only to see Corinth re-gain the lead with a single run in the third.
Lafayette got that run back in the top of the fourth and the game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning.
Corinth collected 14 hits to Lafayette’s eight. The Commodores, who seemed to hit the ball everywhere a Corinth defender was, also had two errors, aiding the Warriors, who will travel back to LHS to play Game 3 Saturday night at 6. Austin Arrington started the game for the Commodores, but didn’t garner the loss. That was saddled to Mack Bishop, who only allowed one run in his 3.1 innings of work. The game came to an end with one out. Arrington and Bishop combined to strike out eight.
Jake McPhail was the only Commodore with more than one hit. D.K. Buford and Eli Murphree each had a double.
Murphree will draw the start tonight for the Commodores.
