Rebels’ Moncrief goes in third round

The Colts’ Andrew Luck has a new target to throw. Ole MIss wide receiver Donte Moncrief was taken in the third round by the Colts Friday night, the second day of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 226 pound Moncrief was the 90th overall pick in the draft. He finished third in school history with 156 catches, yards (2,371) and touchdowns (20). He is the highest drafted Rebel since offensive guard John Jerry was taken in the third round, No. 73 overall, by the Miami Dolphins in 2010.

“I am so excited to see our rich tradition of NFL Rebels continue with Donte,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “With this hard work and dedication, I expect him to join fellow Ole Miss greats Mike Wallace and Dexter McCluster as successful receivers at the next level. I appreciate the commitment and leadership Donte provided our program in helping lead us to back-to-back bowl wins, and I can’t wait to watch him excel for the Colts.”
