Oxford’s Kendricks wins SEC pole vault
Former Oxford High standout Sam Kendricks can now add Southeastern Conference champion to his already impressive resume.
The Ole Miss junior won the 2014 SEC pole vault championship Sunday with a mark of 18 feet, 6 inches. The Rebels, meanwhile, finished with 78 points to finish fifth in the SEC Track and Field Championships, their best finish in 30 years overall.
Also winning an SEC title was high jumper Ricky Robertson, who cleared with a mark of 7-3.5.
“I’m proud of the team and proud of their efforts,” Ole MIss coach Brian O’Neal said in a release. “We challenged our athletes to compete at a high level, and I thought everyone gave their absolute best. When people upped the ante, we upped the ante right along with them.”
