OC-TV: Memorial Day 2014

Sgt. Butch Harris (USMC, Ret.) was the featured speaker at Memorial Day 2014 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Miss. A native of Water Valley, Harris joined the Marine Corps in 1965, and began a three-tour deployment to South Vietnam in 1966, where he was a member of the Third Force Recon Battalion. His decorations include two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars for valor, two Meritorious Service Medals, and more.ColReb

After leaving the military in 1970, Harris settled back in Mississippi, where he retired from the University of Mississippi’s Physical Plant in 2007. He now resides in southern Lafayette County with his wife, Jo-Ann.

In his spare time, Harris has been known to dress as “Colonel Reb” and attend Ole Miss sporting events
