Lafayette’s Nabors to sign with East Mississippi
A late surprise has extended the basketball career of Lafayette High’s Montreal Nabors. The Commodores’ 6-foot-1 shooting guard, who averaged a little over 19 points per game last season, is set to sign with East Mississippi Community College.
Nabors got word that he would have a spot on the team late last week. According to LHS coach Nacoma James, Nabors worked out for the Lions back in March and was thought of as a possibility moving forward.
“They told him back then that they would keep him in mind. I think they had a guard who had committed to them de-commit or went somewhere else,” James said. “Montreal had gotten an academic scholarship to Jackson State and he was going to walk-on to the basketball team down there. He texted me the other day and told me that East Mississippi had offered him and he was pretty excited.”
Nabors will finish his summer classes at Jackson State and then head to Scooba to enroll for school and start working out with the team in August.
James added that the Lions liked the way Nabors shot the basketball.
“That’s the thing about Montreal, if he gets hot, he can light it up,” James said. “His thing is he has to get bigger as far as the transition from high school to college, the wear and tear on your body with the more games that you play.”
