Cupid comes early toOxfordas the annual Valentine’s Burlesque show hits the boards as they say in show business at The Powerhouse Community Arts Center on Saturday, February 8, 2013.  The annual event was launched by a local Burlesque troupe three years ago and has grown in popularity each year.  The show seeks to capture the golden age of Burlesque creating a show that was a mix of vaudeville a little extra shake and shimmy.

Burlesque origins where work intended to make people laugh through caricature or ludicrous treatment of a more serious work.  The art form became popular in the United Statesas a form of in the early 1900’s as a style of cabaret show that featured bawdy comedy and tantalizing performances by female dancers.  It was this era that inspired films, such as 1972's Cabaret .  A resurgence of interest in this era of burlesque has become popular with performers hosting show in bars, theatres and professional troupes touring.

This year’s show, Cupid’s Revenge, features performers from Sock It To Me Burlesque Troupe inMemphiswith special guest Mr. Tony Lamoreaux of Tennessee Vaudeville Revue.  The show promises an evening of dance, romance and missing pants!  Love will fill the air as Lady Doo Moi and Chloe du Bois return to the stage having been featured performers in prior years.  Performers Kissame Suga and newcomer Kitty Wompas will join the troupe for the two performance scheduled at 6pm and 9pm.  Tickets to the show are $10.  Tickets can be ordered online at www.oxfordarts.com
