RIDGELAND - Oxford defeated Brookhaven 6-1 Monday, to win its second consecutive Class 4A team championship at Ridgeland Tennis Center.

It was the Chargers' third overall.

I've never known a match that wasn't good to win, on a Thursday afternoon or the state championship. They're all good," said coach Louis Nash. "It's what you try to do at the beginning."

In boys singles, Jenner Jordan defeated Braxton Hinton 6-0, 6-1. Mary Bryan Barksdale defeated Allison Boyd 6-1, 6-0 in girls singles.

In No.1 boys doubles, Hiroshi Murakawa and Alex Mullen defeated Brooks Foster and Ruffin Oberschimdt 6-0, 6-0. Jack Barksdale and Michael Stocks defeated John Calcote and Lakeny Kelly 6-2, 6-4 in No. 2 boys doubles.

On the girls' side, Brookhaven's Hannah Driskell and Lydia Warren defeated Darin Dyer and Emilee Smith 6-4, 6-2. In No. 2 girls doubles, Virginia Terry and Felicity Flesher defeated Emily Lowery and Amanda Moak 7-5, 6-2.

Zach Wilder and Sterling David defeated Alex Lea and Scott Warnock 6-3, 6-3 in mixed doubles.

"From the beginning we were up," Nash said. "It was pretty much ours from the get-go. Our people just played well."
