JACKSON -- Gov. Haley Barbour, nearing the end of his second legislative session of his second term, is quickly reaching the point where he could be considered a lame duck.

Right?

Don't count on it.

Consider as proof his  politically brave veto of legislation to provide a $2,000 tax break to furniture manufacturers for each cut and sew employee.

On final passage, not one of the 174 House and Senate members voted against the bill.

Yet, it appears the Senate leaders will not even go through the ordeal of trying to override Barbour's veto of the proposal, knowing they cannot garner the two-thirds majority to succeed.

Well into his sixth legislative session, the Republican governor still has not been overridden. The House has garnered the votes to do so once, but the Senate has a zero rate of success in overriding the governor.

Lame duck?

Not yet.

Looking at the grammar and spelling on the posts, it would appear that better education might help people get better jobs.

Hi home town usa.,my husband and i are from ripley, we saw first hand how things work there now, from a working mans view point it look real bleak then and that was about 7 yr. ago with the plants closeings we fill your pain, mi. unemployment is over 12% now the country must start working togeather now like we did in the depression years.

our gov. is investing in other manufractureing so maybe by summer we will some work going on,it upsets us to see our famileys down there off work, the new plant that gov.barbour bargined from will be useing b-1 visa workers from japan the very people thet started world war two they killed in cold blood our navy didn't have a chanch to defend them selves.now they want our country with out fireing a shot,we want to stop the japnese from buying forclosed homes here in mi.

this is a good time for mississippians to reform the way work is done in miss.stop the right to work rule there that only help the employer not the worker and you will get better jobs and better pay and that doesn't mean you have to unionse we have a lot of plants here that doesn't have a union but we have workers rights for a decent wadge.get involved,

ILOVE MY HOME STATE,HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU GUYS GOOD LUCK.

Barbour is in complete control of senators like our own Alan Nunnelee who cannot think for himself.

seems its good ole boy politics as usual in the mississippi senate....sorta like this "hey gov, you scratch our backs, we'll scratch yo's". the eminent domain bill somehow didnt get the support from the senate when good ol gov haley vetoed it as well. perhaps some of us "ol workin class folks" should consider voting for a new candidate next time our good ole boy or gal senator is up for re-election.

WHAT DOES THE MAN WANT, HE DON!T WANT US TO HAVE NO UNEMPLOYMENT AND NOW HE DOES NOT WANT TO HELP THE FACTORIES TO GET STARTED BACK UP TO HELP PEOPLE GET JOBS. JUST BECAUSE HE HAS LIVING MADE DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERYBODY DOES, ANSD WHAT CAN THEY NOT OVERRIDE HIM, IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE AFRAID TO?
