Law enforcement from throughout the area converged on Sherman Thursday night after a report of a standoff with police.

According to Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask, a man barricaded himself inside the Sherman Service Station and there were reports of shots fired.

The station is on Highway 178 north of Love's truck stop and is across from the Red Lion grocery store.

Police report the suspect set the business on fire. Around 8:30 p.m., several volunteer fire departments were called to the scene to back up the Sherman and Pontotoc stations.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m. and Mask said charges should be filed in the morning.
