JACKSON — Ten Mississippi legislators failed to file campaign finance reports on time. One says his reason was heart bypass surgery.

State Rep. Bobby Shows, D-Ellisville, said Wednesday that his report would be mailed soon. He said he hadn't been able to file it on time because he has been recovering from the Jan. 8 operation.

A news release from the Secretary of State's office says the others who missed the Jan. 29 deadline were: Robert Johnson III, Troy Brown Sr., John Cosmann III, Tim Lee, Russ Nowell, John Orman, Eric Rawlings, David Rogers, and Bobby Ray Smith.

Missing the deadline can bring fines of $50 a day, up to $500.
