Barry Mayo was only 18 years old when he first stepped foot in Iraq as a private in the U.S. Army. At a time when most 18 years old were trying to figure out what do with the summer after their senior year, Barry Mayo was already doing what he loved. He had made up his mind by age 17 that he wanted to be in the Army.
One year later, he was thousands of miles from his home in Ecru as a part of the U.S. Army’s First Cavalry Division driving Humvees through the desert.
