BOONEVILLE – A state inmate was killed Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle while working on the side of a road.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Melvin E Weathers, 28, of Booneville was working along County Road 1101 about 12:30 p.m. when he apparently stepped in the roadway and was struck by a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Chris Davis, 23, also of Booneville.
