Mississippi State coach John Cohen has to laugh to keep from crying. As the Bulldogs prep for an eight-hour-plus bus ride to Columbia, S.C. – the plane is broken down – they are still dealing with injuries, both old and new.

For example, outfielder Brent Brownlee and third baseman Daryl Norris – both of whom are back, Norris as a DH – got their knees drained on Wednesday. At the same time.

"So they went together, and we did the two-for-one thing like at Subway, to where they both got their knee drained at the doctor's office, and they both said that both of them helped," Cohen said on this morning's teleconference.

Brownlee has been injured so often, Cohen has no problem ribbing him about it.

"I was telling Brent Brownlee, I always kid with him, you know, you need one of those Subway-like cards when you go to the doctor, so when you're on your 10th visit, it's free," Cohen said with a chortle.

• Outfielder/third baseman Demarcus Henderson won't travel with the team to South Carolina because of a broken finger he suffered Tuesday against South Alabama when he was hit by a pitch (he scored the winning run on Wes Rea's 12th-inning walkoff homer). Cohen said he's out two weeks.

• Outfielder C.T. Bradford "couldn't due anything yesterday" due to a shot he received for his injured shoulder.

• Ben Bracewell, at one time MSU's Friday night starter, will not travel with the team this weekend. Cohen hopes to have him ready for Tuesday's game against Ole Miss in Pearl.

"Doctors have put 40 pitches on him for the weekend, and we feel like if we extend that amount of time, he might be able to pitch more. That's our plan is to get him ready for Tuesday to pitch probably in the middle of that game."

• As for the starting rotation this weekend, it will again be Chris Stratton on Friday, Kendall Graveman on Saturday and TBD on Sunday, although Cohen said sophomore righty Evan Mitchell could get the nod. Unless he pitches in relief Saturday.

"I think a lot of teams in our league are in the same boat," Cohen said. "They're going to do whatever they can. If the game's in jeopardy, you're going to take care of that game and worry about the next game the next day."
