Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre (Maria Geno pictured) is one of several quirky middle-schoolers hoping to win the crown in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Tupelo Community Theatre will present the musical comedy this weekend at The Lyric.

Showtimes are 7:30 pm. tonight, Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. show on Saturday.

Tickets are $22/adults and $10/students.

The show, said director Tom Booth, is rated PG-13.

Charity Ball Friday at BancorpSouth Arena

The 50th annual Charity Ball is 7 p.m.-midnight Friday at the BancorpSouth Arena.

The evening includes presentation of living ads, presentation of the outstanding citizen award, music and a meal by chef Joshua Simpson.

Proceeds go to Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo’s various projects that serve youth in Tupelo and Lee County. The projects include teaching students CPR, obesity prevention programs and school supplies and clothes for the needy.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at J. Britt Lighting, Flowerdale Marketplace, Reed’s Gift Shop, Staggs and the Village Frame Shoppe.

Dulcimer group presents bluegrass, gospel, more

Old-time favorites, gospel and bluegrass tunes will get the dulcimer treatment this weekend as the North Mississippi Dulcimer Association presents a free concert.

The show is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitors Center in Tupelo.

Lisa Lambert hosts CD release show tonight

Lisa Lambert is celebrating her new country CD, “Come On Home: Songs and Stories from Tishomingo County,” tonight at Martha’s Menu in Corinth.

The show starts at 5 p.m. and is free with a meal.
